I have been playing a lot of rpg games lately, and was on a  forum asking a question about Overwatch when this poll came to mind.   What sort of characters and heroes are most used by everyone here?
Do people like characters who are Super strong or Super magical?  Character that they build up themselves?  Or do more of them play like me preferring a more middle road play style?
I'm not asking who is better, because to be honest there is probably no right answer [depending on the game your playing anyway], nor do I want to start any arguments over what kind of character is better.    This is mostly just an exercise in curiosity about you all.   Is there any particular reason you enjoy that type of character?
While I myself am very Red magey at heart, there are plenty of Strong physical and mental characters that I love to play.   I also enjoy games like Fallout 4, but even in that custom game I find myself leaning toward a state of averages.   While I see characters over come problems with Sheer brute force, or amazing Skill and willpower, I find myself too worried about different scenarios, and in games like Fallout 4 Do tend to suffer a bit for that choice.

So what do you all think?
Maybe if ya like you can put some examples down of what ya mean for the character style you like.

Ima say fighter cause i like close combat thingy, but more to a tanky and defensive side you know, like I'm the one that takes the hits while people with high DPS (Damage Per Second) striking behind me, if you know what i mean.
So overall, a character with decent attacking strength, high defense, and slow speed is my type of guy

I prefer attacking over defending. Out of that list, I would pick the Red Mage just because I like my stats to be balanced so I can not have to worry about a stat being too low.

Hmm that's....a really good question to ask....its not often I would really go for the red mage, since not really using that more. For me its either black mage, or fighter. I like black mage because of how powerful elements can be, using fire, water, ice thunder and blizzard as well. For fighter its straight up attacks and very useful.

I mostly used the classes as basic examples, not to mean the ACTUALL final fantasy classes.
Fighters are pure combat, with Melee or ranged based on the game type   Your on the direct frontlines of battle charging into the enemies to do battle immediatly.
Mages are more strategic and planning types of character.  Setting traps, and not doing well in DIRECt combat.  Such as with a mage character who stays back to cast magic while the fighters do the front line fighting
Custom characters are like playing Fallout 4 for example.  You can chose what skills to grow and expand on.
Red mages are A combination of Fighter and Mage, Being capable in Melee and decent at planning traps and strategy.
The Classes weremore of a generalization to be honest.
@skrt-lord : you mean characters like reinhardt from overwatch?  Cause those are fun.

I would usually pick fighters or warriors,I like to be the one to smash someone's head in. But every class has its uses. I will use a bit of Disgaea 2 as an example.

Fists: Can do a lot of damage and you can earn nasty supers.
Swords: Same as fists.
Spears: You can stay 2 squares from your target or in a diagonal square and you can frustrate your enemy.
Gun: You can attack long range and usually stay out of retaliation range.
Magic: You can cause havoc from a distance, but are relatively weak.

I like the fighter or warrior classes, especially when they're portrayed as big, dumb apes that just swing a big sword or a club or something like that. There's something enjoyable in such a simple character. There's no secrets in there, no subterfuge, no strategy. That character hits things. And they're huge. They bulldoze right through traps and ambushes and enemies and they can tank for others, taking hits and shots like it's nothing.

I think the games that have written dialogue and character development make these characters the funniest ones too. I thought Sabin from Final Fantasy VI is a perfect example. He's supposed to be a goof, a big ol' teddy bear, and the character plays just fine.

when I look at myself and at my life. I see myself as a distance person shrouded in mystery, mostly hidden in the shadows not wanting to cause attention to others with the acts that I follow through with my life. My face hidden with my hood covering scars and mystery throughout my whole life.  this role that I very much enjoy playing during my life is a thief/assassin. Shrouded in mystery quiet during my hunts, easy to pickpocket stuff with ease without leaving even a simple bit of a trace of whereabouts to where I was or where I go.  being lonely sometimes isn't good for you but I enjoy the quiet silence of the shadows.

gcvashgun :
Oh I knew I was forgetting a Character type  -face palm- Stealth and patience is a very specific game style.  Waiting for that perfect moment, slipping into enemy bases, sometimes performing entire jobs without being seen or hurting anyone.    OR Slipping into enemy bases and turning the land into a Horror Flick where YOU are the Sneaky monster no one sees.   There is a special sort of feeling you get when you sneak up on an enemy and CHOSE to let them live or die.  Pros of that style are really scary.. and

GAWD DAYUM YOU SPY!!
-French laughter-

This sorta thing also applies to stealth in other sorts of games, and often enough is an optional route.   There are so many games that give you the option to Sneak around, Assassinate everything, or  interestingly enough.. Be Rambo and shoot everything.    One example of this is from when I was watching people play 'MGS', or 'Last of us' actually.  I personally am horrible at stealth, but I love how you can chose to not kill anyone. [Intentionally or outside of forced story scenes.]

Normally when I play games with other people I like acting as a mage and being the support role. Just sitting in the background healing or occasionally throwing hits at the enemy. When I play alone, however, I enjoy being the rogue or assassin type of character. There's just something I love about being able to sneak around past everyone and catching them off guard. I even catch myself sneaking up on my friends from time to time. XD

Well I dislike characters who talk to much while trying to be funny (and just being cringy).

I guess my favorite kind of character is a ranged attacker; a magic user or an archer or something like that. I don't like hand to hand combat or guns. Oh and they need to have a good design too.

I chose Red Mage because it's the closest to what I prefer out of the ones listed.

Truth is it depends on the game. In an action RPG I usually prefer mêlée, specifically swordsmen. But in some cases I prefer archers.
In strategy RPG I prefer Archers all the way.
In MMOs I prefer archers.
Finally, in games with mostly one on one fights I prefer mêlée, but in games with entire troops, I prefer ranged. A mix of both is good too, so you can adapt as needed, even if it comes at a cost of power.
