So I have been having a few more issues with some of my devices lately and was looking for some advice.

My laptop seems to instantly lose power overnight now. I have had this laptop for a good two years and never had power problems such as this, and all the problems that I have had were only temporary before fixing themselves, but this is different.

I haven't been doing anything different than what I have been doing with my laptop since I got it, so I don't seem to know what could be the reason.

Let's say that I go to my old school in the morning to use the internet and when I get there, I plug in my laptop ASAP. I'm there for a few hours so when I unplug it, it's at full power band I turn it off for the day. I try to come in the next day and the laptop won't even turn on, I just get the message that the battery is critically low, so before I can use it again, I need to plug it in first thing in the morning, every day, and it's been going on like this for almost a whole week.

I can fully charge my laptop, then uplug it and then use it for 3 or 4 hours before I have to plug it in again, that's fine, but when I just power it off and put it away for the day, it just goes haywire now. Any suggestions on what could be cauing the sudden change or wat I could do to help it?

This is actually pretty common with laptops in general, and it's why you are advised not to keep laptops plugged in, since it helps them lose their charge quicker (battery overloaded).

What's strange is how you are able to use it for 3-4 hours on full charge (pretty great for a two year old laptop), but not if you power it off. My assumption would be the power on/off process is taking up too much power, which throws your computer, which is sustaining a certain charge, through a loop.

I don't know a whole lot about electricity or computer hardware, but I do know that both of our Toshiba batteries are almost completely dead and run for about three minutes before shutting down, and that's from a full charge. However, they've been in almost constant use for probably three years and the batteries died maybe a year ago or so, so I just thought that batteries dying in laptops was normal.

What kind of laptop are you using? Did you install any updates that might have affected some of your power settings?

Get your battery charge down to 70% and then try removing the battery and put it back in. After that, load up your os, find your device manager (which if it's windows, just right click my computer and press manage) and disable and reenable the battery drivers there and then charge it to full and then shut it down. I'd make sure you do this before you go to bed since you said this is when the problem usually occurs.

Yuna1000 : I'm using a Dell. The last update that I put in was for a game that I put in maybe 5 months ago.

Pokemonfan1000 : The problem doesn't occur when I go to bed, it occurs when I'm at school and turn it on, and it would be impossible to do this before I go to bed since I leave school about 7 hours before I go to bed.

zanderlex : What I meant was when you get ready to go to bed and shut it down for the night. So just try what I listed above when you're getting ready for bed, leave it untouched for the night and then see if the problem occurs when you start it up in the morning or not. I know this may be a stupid question but are you by chance not accidently hitting the sleep mode button when you think you're hitting the shutdown button or even the restart button (Unless you wait for it to fully shutdown before you close the lid rather than hit shutdown and then immediately close the lid)
