So, I have been wanting to get a name change for the longest time. I wanted to keep thing1, but that is practically taken everywhere else on the internet (my main concern is on XBOX, though). So, for about 2 years, I have been waiting for something to come to me that works, that doesn't go off of other media (like, using the name "RavensBiggestFan") or a place ("NotASeattleHispter").

Today, an idea came to me: Why not combine my current usernames, and just take the numbers out? So, now I am debating which one sounds better. And what better way to than to come to vizzed.com, where people are not shy at all about their opinions?

Right now, I use DCM7734 and thing1. Everybody on here knows the story of how I got thing1. If you don't, look for the thread that has the origins of usernames.
DCM7734 comes from my initials, and being (or, at least, used to be) a math nerd... and thinking I was the "hard" kind of cool.
laughs internally at self If you put 7734 into a calculator, turn it upside down, well... I thought it would make me cool and seem tough.

I've decided to get rid of the numbers. If you look at all the popular people, most don't have numbers in their name. It is harder for people to remember your username. And, it makes you easier to find.

I'm going to combine my names.

So please, vote. And, if you have the time, tell me why you voted for the one you did.
Also, if you have another combination that you think will work, let me know. But no, I will not use "DThing"

Here's the thing about your theory of usernames correlating to well-known/remembered:

It's garbage. (At least when it comes to Vizzed, elsewhere, I don't really care, since I don't interact with you anywhere else. Essentially, everything below primarily applies to this site)

There are a lot of well-known members with numbers in their username, such as myself (who finishes routinely top 3 in Most Famous), play4fun (who has the added "disadvantage" of having the number in the middle, as opposed to the end), and in the past, Rasenganfan2 was well known as well.

And whether you want to believe it or not, you are well-known too, and it has nothing to do with your username. It has everything to do with your actions, something a username change can't get rid of.

So I would argue, don't change your username at all, because I don't think it would gel with what I perceive to be your biggest goal, since you are well-known, it's easy to find you, and it's easy for people to remember you as it is.

If you want to change all your usernames to be one username, thing1 works best for you. It's something familiar, and everyone here knows you as it.

If you get rid of the numbers in DCM, it's fairly likely that someone will have taken that username, though I'm not about to go check it out for you.

Keep thing1.

I'm with leggy on this, just keep your current username.

I myself have used a ton of names everywhere I've gone, and while only here I could be considered somewhat popular, I'd have no issue with having different names elsewhere. It's just like passwords, some people keep just one for everything and others try to use different ones.

Even if you're known by a different name elsewhere, people will still recognize you. The only reason why you should change your name is if you don't want your current one anymore, and it's not your case. We pick whichever name we can depending on what's already taken, so don't make a big mess about having a name you don't like that much because you had no other choice.

Love the passive aggressiveness.

Unless I'm mistaken, your issue here is not about changing your identity, but about wanting a unified username across all platforms, right? Otherwise the mentioning of wanting the XBL name to be thing1 but having waited so long seems pointless. That and this isn't the first time you've mentioned it.

To answer your question: DCThing flows much better than DCMThing. However, if you're wanting to stay recognizable to people who know you as DCM7734, then DCMThing is much more relatable to those people.

So it all comes down to this: which is more important — the name that sounds best, or the name that's most recognizable to people on here AND people on XBL and Twitch? If it's the former, then DCThing. If it's the latter, then DCMThing. And for the record, yes, a string of numbers at the end of a name does make it harder to remember. I struggle to keep my favorite streamers' names right when they have a numerical string at the end. Why? Because who, for example, when talking to a friend online says "Hey DCM7734!" instead of "Hey DCM"? Much like out of everyone I've come across on Twitch, only one person calls me Eirinn87. Literally everyone else — including people not on Vizzed — just calls me Eirinn. So when you need to remember the exact name, a string of numbers can be difficult to recall because unlike words, they don't tend to engrain themselves into your mind. Now a 1 at the end? No problem. 7734? Yeah too much. I had to reread your post to type it out here even.

Eirinn : Yeah, pretty much it's about uniformity and not having to remember all the different names. There are some sites that are, well yeah. I'll keep those names different, but the rest I want uniformity.

legacyme3 : Don't know why you currently have 2 dislikes. I took what you said as constructive criticism, and can totally see your point. But the thing is, I want uniformity, not just being well known. I couldn't care if I'm well known or not; what I care about is being easily recognized, either by my friends, or by others.
I can't have thing1 elsewhere; that is my first choice. But I can't have that, so I have to go with something else that suits me. And I really don't want numbers in my name anymore. Nothing against other people... I just don't want them anymore.
As for my goal that you are referencing, I'm assuming you mean Local Mod. While I admit I would still like to achieve that goal, I know it's now a long term goal, and not a short term goal. I must prove myself worthy. Yes, I did apply for this round, but I had maybe a 10% expectation of getting it. I know that I was literally just unbanned for a 2nd time, so if any kind of staff role was to be obtained, it would take some time.
As for just "DCM", that's usually too short for other places.

EX Palen : Read what I said to Eirinn and legacyme3.

skrt-lord : That's something I'm worried about. I actually prefer Marvel over DC. And right now, people commonly get my name "DCM7734" mixed up with DMC, misreading it thinking it stands for Devil May Cry rather than my initials.

thing1 :

Two likes, two dislikes. It's fairly normal, especially when you say something at all confrontational, even if that's not the intent.

If your goal is uniformity, it's going to be really tough to find a recognizable name that isn't taken anywhere, while being something that fits you. Personally, I think neither of your choices is all that great, but that's me.

I do not, because as I said above, I don't think you should change your name anywhere. I get the desire for uniformity (my username is the same everywhere except like one place), but I think it's also important to work with what fits. In this case, the only username that I personally can see you as, is thing1.

I would say DCMThing. DCThing only reminds me of the DC universe and generally gives me the impression that you're just into DC related things so if that's not the impression you want to give, I wouldn't go with it even though it might flow slightly better. Especially if you aim to be a succesful content creator/streamer. However I don't think keeping numbers is going to have much of an impact on your recognizability, if that's the only thing keeping you from including them.

Between these two? DCMThing I guess.

I mean I personally don't like either of them but that's just my opinion.

I'd stick with your regular name personally but if I have to choose between the two, I'd say DCMThing sounds better. DCThing sounds weird but DCMThing sounds kinda like a DJ name and that's pretty neato.

As with the others, I vote you keep your current username as it is well known here. If you need help with usernames then I suggest you call +44 1-800-222-222 for help.

So, I got to thinking, and I have another idea that I actually like, it doesn't have any numbers, and it works for me.

DVThing.

DV is short for "Dysfunctional Veteran." If my friends know anything about it, it is that I am not normal. Also, it could be short for "Disabled Veteran", which I am.
I can keep the "Thing" part of my name that I really want, and I don't have to worry about my initials or numbers.

So, what do you think?

Thank you for your feedback. Since I have a new idea, I thought that I would let you know, and find out what you guys think about it.

skrt-lord : I probably wouldn't respond to it. XD It'd take some getting used to. But, I am used to being called "thing", so I would definitely respond to that.
