So when you tell a friend or a family member you are going to sleep for the night do you actually sleep straight away? Or do you go and do some other things before going to sleep? For me most of the time when I go off my laptop I am on my phone. So I watch a few things before actually sleeping off.

No but that's because nobody ever tells anyone that they're going to bed, because nobody cares. I can go to my room at 10, come out 5 hours later at 3 and nobody will ask if I was asleep or even care.

Well, with my family when we say we're going to bed, it means we plan on sleeping. Otherwise we'll just say "I'm going to my room" or something along those lines.

When it comes to friends, it can go either way. Sometimes I'll tell them because I'm going to bed, and other times I'll just say it because I'm too tired to carry on the conversation, even though I plan on doing a few more things before actually passing out. It also doesn't help I get distracted super easy, so half the time I plan on sleeping something catches my attention, and I end up staying up for hours more just derping around because more things just keep pulling my train of thought in that direction lol.

Well yeah, I have to be honest. If I said I was going to bed, I'd have to go to bed. Usually I have to do things in order for me to go to bed, like clean off my bed and shut down electronics. I don't take any personal time before going to bed, and when I'm in bed I don't immediately fall asleep because it's hard to do that. Usually I spend around an hour and a half thinking before eventually falling asleep

Since I'm the night owl at home, I almost never have to say anything to my family because I'm the only one awake by then. As with friends, I'm rarely talking to someone during the hours I'm debating whether to sleep or not, but if I am I always announce my intention of shutting down everything to call it a day.
