DragonSlayer22 : I personally don't believe that this will replace the 3DS in any way because a lot of the big Nintendo portable fans have adapted to have multiple screens, one of them a touch screen, which this lacks, from what I can tell. If anything, it may have potential to pull the PS Vita crowd instead of being their own competitor.

Pokemonfan1000 : From what I gather, the home console IS the portable and the dock you set it in keeps everything charged while streaming to an external display, so I would think that the cartridge would be inserted into the handheld and not the dock

EDIT: Typo fix - their, not they're.

I haven't seen the trailer since my high speed data won't start for a few more hours probably, but I would like to put in my two cents.

I see two sides in the comments here and frankly I'm not in line with either of them. Surprising, I know. You'd expect me to trash Nintendo since I feel...well I won't go down that road right now.

Will it be as great as fans are hoping? I just don't see how it could be. I mean you can't fit a hard drive in that thing, so what are we using? SD cards? Yikes. Flash memory? Yikes part two. What about RAM? Is this going to be able to keep up with 8 core GPU, 8GB GDDR5? How? I think it's a suped up handheld, and that's truly great, it really is, but it's not going to scratch the console itch like we'd hoped I don't think.

Why? How many GB can this thing hold? Maybe one AAA game?

What about format? Cartridge? If so, how will we hold AAA console games on them? The PS Vita did a pretty good job at holding PS3 size games on it but even as great as it is, it still can't field something like say, Shadow of Mordor on it's own.

It is NOT revolutionary. I have been saying this since the concept leak happened a year ago. A handheld that can tether to you TV? Sony did that...twice. PSP? PS Vita/PS4 or PS Vita/PSTV? Anyone? Did we completely miss the past decade of handheld gaming? Where is this revolutionary? It isn't. And for this very reason I think we'll see history repeat itself: the TV feature for PSP and PS Vita (though the two implemented this in different ways) was never a selling point. Ever. Why? Handhelds are inferior in terms of power and ability, so why tether yourself to a TV with something that can't do as good of a job at what it's trying to do as your console can? We use handhelds to game on the go, not at home. It's cool, but not a system seller. Console gamers game on console for a reason, and it isn't convenience of mobility. Lol

It can hit 900p and is almost on par with the PS4 in power. Nice, just as long as it can run AAA third party games that PS4 and Xbox One can. Power was what held Wii U back from third party support and caused it to flop. If this can do that then it should make it to at least some degree.

Why I disagree with those opposed to it here
It's not entirely gimmicky, but it IS built on a faulty concept that console gamers want a TV and that's about it. Nintendo seems to be trying to think outside of Japan finally which is awesome, but they still view the West through their East tinted glasses. They see us gaming from a couch but they don't see why we do so yet it seems.

They did take a very positive step in the right direction by focusing on power. I never thought they would do that again, and this shows a good change in thinking.

From what I've read they dropped the crazy gimmicks of the past two generations thank goodness. That's saying something since they thought it was the most amazing thing ever.

So yeah, I'm closer to the side of the detractors, but I can see potential in some ways. This will be a potentially AMAZING handheld. But a console? No. Never. End of story. It tries to be something it cannot be, not without a massive price tag and better formatting. Cartridges are NOT the way to go. They can't hold what discs can and they can't perform like they can. Remember N64 vs. PSX? yeah, how did that go? PSX had the disc advantage.

This has potential but it won't be the next big thing, nor will it turn Nintendo into a serious competitor for dedicated console gamers, nor will it win the hardcore gamer audience like it needs to. It could win the less diehard console gamers though.

A huge improvement on Nintendo's part, and that excites me so much. Still not the right mindset though, but they're getting close.

I personally think it's very cool that you can go from playing on your tv and then switch to mobile if you have to).

However, I'm not prepared to spend 500-600 dollars on it.

I wish I could afford to drop that amount.

Is that even the retail price? The system isn't in the market yet

Well this is all the news we are getting this year according to wall street journal in Tokyo. While I am happy with what was shown I don't think waiting until January to release more news is a smart move on them.

m0ssb3rg935 : That would make sense for the cartridges to be on the portable and not on the portion that stays home as that would make this console bomb with people not buying it because they're limited to just one cartridge while on the go.

Also, does anyone know the cartridge size? I would assume they would be DS/3DS size and not N64 size.

Juliaisme123: I can't say I'm not disappointed, but seeing the trailer reminded me of one of the first thing Nintendo said about the NX "its not as much of a console as it is a platform. with that in mind, it would make sense to have all these games. Nintendo also mentioned interfacing with other devices. Witch means this might be the original steam version, or a direct source port of it. This is just a guess though.

simply put i don't like the idea..

for those that do... wait for the battery life/price details before you consider it...

pointless note... there's no kids in the video.... so probably designed around adults....

as some one that owns a ps4 pc and a new 3ds.. .this literally seems pointless.... unless i wanted a tablet to play on whilst pooping

Pokemonfan1000 : From what I saw when I finally got to watch the video it looks like the cartridges are roughly the same size as 3DS games. Assuming that was a cartridge and not a memory card he was inserting, since showing him insert a memory card seems pointless.

I am not hyped for this. I want to stay optimistic, but I am not thrilled yet. The battery life and price are things I need to know about. Not only that, but what games will be out? Will it be like the Wii U and 3DS where they wait two or three years before making games people want? I mean, Zelda is one thing. But if that's it for the next three years, it won't be as worth it. I mean, it is already pretty clear that local multiplayer is going to be a hassle, and possibly very expensive. And the fact they confirmed there won't be any backwards compatibility...I can't wait to be expected to buy a full price $60 game again.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

I am actually really looking forward to the Nintendo Switch. I also heard that they are planning on making some Pokémon games for it, so that's something that really makes me want to get it. I mean it is a handheld and a console so there is a large amount of versatility here. I just hope that there isn't some weird restrictions kinda like a PS Vita and the PS4. Where you can only play some of the games on the console and not the other way around or vice versa because that would kind of be a moot point for what we were hoping for. I also hope that in the end they will make it compatible to play digital version of 3DS and Wii games.

I like the Nintendo Switch and I'm interested and this is coming from someone who isn't much of a Nintendo fan outside of the Gamecube and their handhelds. I'm not gonna make the mistake of being an early adopter of the console like I was for the Wii U and most likely become disappointed and agitated for having a console with jack for games.

new update, Nintendo says no for backwards capacity. this means no 3ds no wii or wii u or anything else. the games will be NX games only, this explains the game card being bigger like people pointed out.

Man, I am sooo hyped for the Nintendo Switch! It looks like it will bring the old couch multiplayer feeling back, but with a modern take on it. Plus, new Mario adventure game which is always fun, haha
