In my opinion these are the two best platform games of the 16 bit era,Super Mario World on SNES which is probably the best Mario game there ever was until Super Mario 64 came out,it was a long and adventrous release which had lots of secrets to find and wasn't just about getting to the end of each level.

And then Sonic The Hedgehog 2,far superior to the first one and my favorite game on the Sega Genesis,it has some of the best levels and definitely the best music you could hear on the Genesis,of course the Sonic Adventure games are the best Sonic games but Sonic 2 on Genesis is a classic.

I have to go with Sonic 2 because I played it like non stop when I was a little kid... Still play it now and then.. Never really played much Super Mario World because I never owned Super Nintendo.. Sometimes played it in my friends house and tried it in Vizzed couple of times.

I'll go with mario. I feel that in general Mario has a better history and gameplay, so even I feel I hadn't played either I would lean towards Mario, but I have already played and because of that like it even more so.

Super Mario World. I just don't like Sonic. At all.

As for Super Mario games, I used to love all of them, but lately it feels like they're losing their touch, at least they are if New Super Mario Bros. is any indication (it's the first and only Super Mario I've played since Super Mario 64). It seems they've just lost something in the progression. The series feels less like it's about having fun and more like it's about making it through progressively difficult (and somewhat awkward in design) levels. Hopefully New Super Mario Bros. is the exception here.

My vote goes for Super Mario World since I'm no longer a Sonic fan.  But that's not a reason why I prefer Mario.
That red plumber is part of my childhood. I remember playing Super Mario Bros. until late evening with my older brother... while I only knew Sonic thanks to the cartoon and well...his games aren't (for me) that good as Mario ones.  That's my opinion.

I had both games back in the day. But I found myself playing Super Mario World more. Thus I will have to give Super Mario the edge here. 

Super Mario World was a great game. It introduced Yoshi to the Mario games. I also liked it how it kept a lot of the things that Made Super Mario Bros 3 great. Plus the levels were just awesome.

I don't know why, but for me at least Sonic The Hedgehog 2 brong the Difficulty way too quickly with the Poison level.



At least with Mario World, it didn't get harder until you were relatively close to the end-game and even then it was fairly beatable.

I think that in terms of technical proficiency in game design, Super Mario World rules over most other games. Although, in terms of just being fun to play, one could easily make a case for Sonic 2. They're both great games in their own respect.

I guess I will be that one person who days sonic the hedgehog 2. I wasn't into Mario as much as I was into sonic games which I mostly grew up on. I did eventually get to like Mario games, but not as much as sonic games.
