I'm going to be moving to a new house soon along with my parents only problem is the house that we are living in nowz has been the only one I've known since I was 3 or 4 years old I've spent most of my growing life in this house so yeah I'm starting to think it is only natural for me to be scared aboutz the moving that is slowly getting closer by the day

that being said how do all of you handle moving from house to house when you were growing up?

maybe if I can getz some insight it will help me calm my nerves and be more at ease with the moving process...

one of the few upsides that I've been given so far as that my parents let me paint my new room whatever color I wanted and it is going to be the most awesome room in the house after I'm done decorating it ^.^

though another drawback would be I'm having to leave behind the two neighborhood cats that I've grown close to since the new area probably won't allow them to stay if they are outdoor cats my parents are probably right in saying they'd be called on to be trapped and taken to a shelter which I don't want that for them ... at least my mom has said they we'd be able to come back and visit them whenever I want to so that does offer me a little comfort at the very least

I've only moved a few times and most of them I really don't remember because I was a toddler. I'm not sure how long I was at the first and second place, but we moved to a new apartment complex in May of 2000 and changed to another apartment in the same complex  in late 2001. I lived in that apartment from the age of 5 until the age of 14 and I lived in that complex for two thirds of life. After that, we were forced to move. I didn't sleep much the first couple months because of the unfamiliarity. Different mattress, different room, different town, different people, etc. Once you get used to your new surroundings though, it's not so bad. I think the first time's probably the worst.

Aw man. Moving is never easy. Things will be okay though, I am sure of it. ^^ I have only moved twice, both before I turned 7, so...I can't say I have too much memory of it.

What color are you thinking of painting the new room?

I hope you will be able to see those cats every now and then. Mayyybe you can just take them with you.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

A user of this : they'd be coming with us for sure if my dog didn't dislike cats ... although she tends to act like one more often then not and was around a few of them before we bought her I just don't knowz whyz she doesn't like cats anymore

as for what color my room is going to be the accent wall will be painted red and that is the wall my bed will be against the rest of the walls will be a cool grey color so it will be sorta closer to silver though not quite as shiny

the walls in my current room are sky blue and I'm sorta sick of looking at the sky blue walls all day long that and I think it is starting to effect me a little though I'm not entirely sure so my new room with the new colors will be a nice change of pace at the very least >.>

I've moved twice so far in my life; when I was 10 and just a few months ago.

I always regret moving to another place because it ends up with me leaving behind what I had. I had to abandon my old neighbors and friends who I grew up with during my childhood years as well as a few neighbors who were very close to me and my family. I had quite some trouble dealing with the moves and it took me some time to adapt to my new changes and environment.

What I would try to do in order to ease the sorrow of moving is to do this:
  • Think of it as a fresh new start and a new point of your life.
  • Explore around your new area by introducing yourself to your new neighbors and trying to talk with them, look for any interesting nearby places, etc.
  • If you are close/in good terms with anyone from your old area, try your best to stay in contact with them
  • You can visit your old area if you have the time, chance, and luxury to do so. It's not the end of the world after your move!
  • While you are packing, be sure to clean out old stuff, old clothes, and other unnecessary stuff that you won't need/use (it makes moving much easier).
  • It takes time to adapt to your new place and area so take your time.
  • Get all of the help that you need for your move and don't be afraid to ask for help (it helps to decrease the stress and anxiety with more people helping you. More hands make less work!).
  • Plan your move in a timely manner (rushing your move causes so much unnecessary stress and anxiety and you don't want that).
  • Most importantly, you aren't alone with dealing with the move. You can always talk to your family because they are dealing with the same situation with you.
I hope my advice helps you!

I've moved at least a dozen times in my life, and every time, it's been easier and easier. Hell, a year ago, I moved from my home in New Hampshire to southern California with just my girlfriend. I'm now 3,000 miles from any family and have made it work for a year.

My best advice is to just realize that while one story is ending, another is just beginning. You are the maker of your own fate, your own destiny. Moving is hard because you are trying to integrate yourself into a new culture. The farther the distance, the bigger the difference. But any person has within them, the capability to be a better version of themselves.

One other bit of advice I would have is "don't wait for people to come to you". I have no idea how old you actually are, but for anyone, outside of 5 year olds, kids do not approach you generally unless you look really cool. Anyone on this site is likely very uncool looking. You need to take the initiative and show you care about morphing into this new culture.

A lot of what ghostfishy says is also true, but I think these are the two most important bits, at least coming from personal experience.

Hope you enjoy your new home!

legacyme3 : I'm 27 years old right nowz I didn't lie aboutz my age on my profile though having lived in one place for most of my life makes moving seem like a challenge granted I will be able to over come it though it won't be easy at first till I getz used to the area

also are you trying to act more like Kakashi sensai? if so your doing a very good job of it

ghostfishy : thanks ghosty I'm currently sorting through my things and helping keep the house clean in prep for the move most of the stuff I'm attached to is able to come with me so there is some comfort in that and yes I will be getting rid of stuff that I no longer need or use anymore as far as moving in a timely manner sadly that part isn't up to me it's up to my parents so I'm having to go and help them out at their pace not my own though I will try to slow down and learn the area alot once everything is said and done ... maybe learning the area might help calm me down over having to move maybe not though I do think that it is worth giving a try

Moving is never easy it never is.....you just have to look at the bright side of things. I have moved only a few times. The worse place to be moved is somewhere that is haunted that's my only fear of moving. But, I am sure you will move to a very nice lovely home. Have you thought about maybe how you will have your room this time around? Or how it will be decorated? I'm sure things like that are quite fun to look forward too. If it was me I would loom forward to placing a lot of sailor moon stuff in my room and to see how I can arrange me gaming area as well.

I think I may have told you already, but I've moved probably fifteen or more times. In fact with the exception of one or two houses I've never stayed more than a year in a house, so really I don't mind moving. Ever. I always looked at it like an adventure I guess because to me getting to know a new house (and it takes a few months to really learn all there is to know about a new place usually and get used to it) is fun. I mean I would like to get settled in somewhere and stay there but I'll enjoy my life for what it is until that day comes.

So yeah my advice may stink since I've never known anything but moving and as such I can't understand what it's like to have trouble adjusting to it, but here goes:
-Explore the new neighborhood. It's always nice seeing what kinds of stores etc. are nearby and maybe even make plans to visit them.

-Sleep with a light on, or a lamp nearby. The first night or two in a new house gives some people the creeps, so keep yourself as comfortable as possible. After a few days you'll start getting used to it.

Lousy help but hey, I tried. Good luck again on the move.

I know I've said this to you before in private, but I think you're stressing out a little too much over this. I'm not trying to minimize the anxiety of dealing with the situation, but it seems to me like you're projecting a little more than need be. Given some time, living in the new house will feel natural, and change isn't always a bad thing.

Also, brooding over some thing that hasn't come to pass yet is only going to make the situation seem even more dire than it actually is. There's nothing wrong with being prepared, but there's also no point in worrying about some thing until it's actually happening. I know this is much easier said than done, and that every one struggles with this at least from time to time, but it is just some thing for you to think about.

You have tons of people who care deeply for you that will support you along the way. You'll never have to worry about facing the world and it's challenges alone, so please try not to worry any more than you have to, ok?

Unfamiliarity isn't all that bad. I know you're probably scared because new unknown things, but think of it this way: it could be a way to discover something you've never previously seen before. A new way of life, a new beginning. A new perspective gives a new reality and there's plenty of things to be discovered there. I just hope you enjoy the trip and that you'll stay safe while moving. Don't worry, it'll probably be fun even!

Eirinn : all of you have given me good advice and I'll try my best to calm down and not worryz aboutz it so heavily because the last thing I need right nowz is to getz stressed out before the move even happens

Eniitan : as for the place being haunted I'd find it reallyz coolz if the place I moved to turned out to be haunted true I don't like most things that deal in the realm of horror though for what ever reason paranormal stuff like ghosts don't bother me and I enjoy watching shows like Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters ^^

Jygin : Ah.....I see I guess either way can work out well? Please correct me if I am wrong. I like documentary based on that as well, but I don't watch Ghost Hunters I watch something else called The Scariest Places On Earth. I'm sure you will still love the new home you move into though.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
