Following a very long legal battle between Gearbox and 3d realms about the rights to Duke Nukem last year, Gearbox has now announced a remake of the original Duke Nukem coming in October. Duke Nukem 3D 20th Anniversary Edition World Tour.

It will feature remastered graphics using "true 3d rendering" which will reportedly allow for playing at very high framrates. The original 1996 graphic settings will also be included and can easily be switched between. Probably the most exciting aspect though is that Gearbox have gotten many of the original creators of Duke Nukem to produce new content. The game will feature 8 new levels, a new musical score and even the original voice actor Jon St. John was brought in to produce new one liners for Duke. Likely due to this, the game will be priced at 19.99 at launch.

This looks set up to be a great celebration of the original game which will hopefully help fans forget about the mess that was Duke Nukem Forever. Fan of the series or not though, does this have you interested and will you look into getting the game when it releases? Tell me your thoughts in this thread!

Duke Nukem was awesome.... in the 1990s. It was the best game, it competed with Doom and all the other first person shooters, it had great humor and was fun to experiment, and it was one of my all time favorite games as a kid.

I remember playing it and loving every second. I stayed up late to play and I would do it with the lights off to scare myself. The game had a perfect balance of surprises, jump scares, haunting tunes and sounds, but the humor and the fun kept it just light enough to keep things going.

Then they promised us the next game. Then ten years passed. Then more time passed and I moved on. Then something came out and was terrible and I lost all hope and desire and wonder at the Duke Nukem 'franchise' if you even want to call it that.

I'll pass at a remastered game. It won't be successful because it's playing on nostalgia that has come and gone. They're not going to do much differently from the original game so we're not going to see anything innovative or new.

I'm less than impressed and I think Gearbox is grasping at straws. It won't come to much. Some suckers are going to buy it and play for a while and walk away feeling vaguely disappointed.

Duke Nukem Total Meltdown and Doom 64 were very memorable games in the 90's but you know I just can't get into them very much. Something about being confined in small areas in FPS games isn't very appealing or entertaining to me. Despite that they were good back in the day.

I don't like remastered stuff... it's just milking the franchise for every little penny. Even if there are new levels and soundbites that isn't something that would make me go out and buy it.  Hardcore fans will enjoy it I'm sure but probably not the casuals.

Both Doom and Duke franchises are highly overrated I just never really got interested in any of the games except those two I mentioned above from the 90's. If you like Duke Nukem's dark humor and FPS games I recommend trying Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, it has better graphics, better weapons, lots of dark and immature humor and overall more enjoyable gameplay.

I think Duke Nukem Forever may have been the final straw. That game was in development for 15 years and we all know that turned out. I do wish them luck in doing this, although I think Duke's reputation is pretty shot now.

I think the opinion here is about the same as in most of the market: Duke Nukem was good... In the nineties. Granted these days I'm different from when I was younger and wouldn't touch a game that inappropriate, still anyone can see Duke is like Gex in that his hay day is long since past. Why would anyone fight for the rights to Duke? Better yet, why would they make another Duke game? Even the old ones that were so good back in the day don't hold up now. :|

It worked for Shadow Warrior, why not Duke? At the core, Duke Nukem 3D was a solid game.
There is still a dedicated following for this game and I think it could make a come back if the remake is done well (true to the original).
