First of all, I know this thread doesn't belong in the right forum, and for some reason I can't make a thread in the Game Characters forum, so mind moving my thread there? Thanks!

Anyway, back to our topic. It's been a while since I last made a fnaf theory (probably because there was a huge part where I started losing interest in the series) but now I guess I'm back to it (not as much as I used to). This time we're focusing on a mysterious animatronic that made its only appearance in Fnaf 4, who is Nightmare. So who's Nightmare? What's Nightmare's past? We know so little about it, as it only appeared in 2 nights (starting from 4 AM) replacing Nightmare Fredbear (Geez Freddy has so many counterparts ._., and it's so confusing).

Nightmare is definitely connected to Fredbear somewhat (Because Nightmare is simply just a color swap of Nightmare Fredbear), but how come it doesn't appear during the real events of Fnaf? I mean the restaurant and everything. Well, this led me believe that Nightmare is a made up animatronic from the child's imagination (because the child fears Fredbear a lot, so I guess that's why his imagination went too far, creating Nightmare), and is perhaps a ghost? I guess we can also call it 'Shadow Fredbear', but hey this is just what I believe, it's not a fact or anything, so feel free to believe whatever you want.

Who do you think Nightmare could be? Do you think Nightmare only exists in the player's imagination? Or is Nightmare real?

Warning: The post below contains Spoilers, if you haven't played FNAF don't read this post.

Calling Nightmare "Shadow FredBear" Isn't too much of a Stretch actually.

You see all of the FNAF characters besides Chica and Foxy all have a Shadow Counter-Part.
There's Golden Freddy,  and Shadow Freddy which both appear in FNAF 2.

I think Scott was originally gonna use Shadow Freddy on Night 6 of FNAF 2 to be a Jump-scare but there seemed to be a bug preventing this from happening and Scott left the remaining sprite in the game just as an Easter egg.

You Also have Golden Bonnie and Shadow Bonnie who both make an appearance in the FNAF 3 mini-games.

There's something definitely wrong with these guys,  They all make a strange sort of appearance.

Keep in mind:  Golden Fred-bear is a figment of the Crying Childs' imagination; a golden Freddy plush that doesn't actually exist, yet it's still able to guide him through his troubling life.
The Crying Child Kept being tortured, locked in his room by his brother,    had the head of his foxy plushy ripped off thanks to his brother,  and finally he lost his life due to the bite from the Golden-fredbear suit.     He died on his own birthday too which makes the situation even worse.
In Conclusion: I think Nightmare isn't just an Opposite of Golden Freddy.  I think it was Scott making a clever pun reference at the Miserable life of the Crying Child. Literally If you review everything you know about the Crying FNAF Kid, his life can be described as a nightmare.

I think all of the Shadow Creatures are representatives of the Crying child's brother and friends trying to make up for what happened at the Fredbear incident. Keep in mind the FNAF 4 ending the brother  said"I'll put you back together" and as we all know FNAF 4 is a Prequel to all the other games.   IN FNAF 3: Shadow Bonnie gives the crying child cake and is Responsible for helping the Player put the animantronics to rest.

Yes this theory is a bit of a stretch, but at the same time it makes too much sense to be wrong here.

I actually believe that Nightmare is a literal representation of death, since he only appears on nights close to the end of the player's life. I can't really say much more about this since that's all I think, heh.
