So it seems that young director/scriptwriter Max Landis is working to reboot and re-imagine Warner Bros.'s iconic french skunk for an animated feature set to debut sometime in the future.

This decision would be a bit controversial (as is Pepe himself) if it wasn't for a few things Landis himself pointed out on a recent vlog posted on YouTube and embedded on the article I linked to on the previous paragraph: the story is going to focus less on Pepe's creepy-ish romantic hijinks and more on their aftermath (i.e. a quest for romantic redemption), and the film's pace, cinematography and structure is going to fuse the original Looney Tunes' rapid-fire slapstick humor with the unique french touch of modern cult classics like Amélie (which I'm a HUGE fan of, by the way!) and The French Connection.

So, what are you Vizzers' opinions on this proposal?

bring back animaniacs instead pls

But I guess I'm fine with this as long as they don't change too much. The sheer amount of controversial material in the Pepe le Pew cartoons is what make it so iconic, it would be like removing Link's sword and giving him a bow instea-

gosh darn it Nintendo...

Well this certainly sounds fun! He was a Looney Toon-like character, so I'd love to watch some more stuff with him in it, because I loved the Looney Toons! It was such a great cartoon, really, and the new ones just can't match up.

Also, you have to consider that for a child (or for children in general) who's watching this, they aren't going to find it creepy or anything of the sort, they are going to laugh at the silly skunk and think it's hilarious and be entertained for a half hour or so.

On the other hand, I don't really see why they're actually remaking this in the first place, since it was not really a big part of Looney Tunes as far as I can remember. I much preferred Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, the Road Runner, and Wily Coyote, but that's just me, hope that this turns out with some success!

I remember those cartoons from back in the day and looking back now, they are cringe worthy.

Pepe Le Pew was based entirely, and I mean entirely, on the running joke of sexual harassment and forced romantic offerings. The female on note, a cat who gets paint on her, spends the entire episode running, hiding, avoiding, evading, and generally saying "No" to the skunk who is overwhelmed by her sensuality.

I can think of a number of groups who would be offended or turned off by the joke. Heck, I don't claim to be a feminists, or anything like that, and it's over the top for me. How is chasing down a female, potentially slipping her roofies, and harassing her funny?

It's beyond me. If they make it, okay, someone will probably pay money to see it. I won't.

I loved Pepe le Pew. You had to love his persistence and his resolve. The poor cat he was chasing, not so much. I have a bad feeling this might be a feminist agenda. I could be wrong, but it sounds like the director wants Pepe to repent and denounce his ways. Part of the fun was watching what lengths he would go to for love. Yes,looking back on it now,it is forced, unrequited love, but at least he would not resort to unsavory methods. That was beneath him.

yoshirulez! : I'd rather have Freakazoid! return, actually :B

Titan127 : You have to keep in mind the fact that none of the original Looney Tunes were made with children in mind. Sure, they may be considered mainstream kids' stuff nowadays, but back in the golden age of cartoons, Bugs Bunny and co.'s hijinks were viewed as quality adult entertainment.

Ghostbear1111 : Weeeell, if you read the article I linked on my original post, you can see that Max Landis will try to change that in the movie. He'll put Pepe's romantic advances on a new light, and probably make him more likable by building an interesting story around them. Again, the movie is going to be inspired by modern french cinema, and its specialty is taking common everyday concepts and characters and turning them on their heads, so the plot will probably be something never seen before!

Oldschool777 : Hmmmm... You do have a point, but nowadays Pepe's style of "old-school romance" isn't acceptable anymore, for a multitude of reasons. And yeah, the story will focus on Pepe changing his outdated ways (or at least trying to), but in the end he'll probably get hooked up with Penelope (the cat) anyway. Add some unexpected twists and turns to the story and a combination of the classic Looney Tunes style of humor with the character-focused drama of modern french movies, and the result certainly will be... interesting, at least.

And hey, since I made my original post in a hurry, I'm going to take my time to write my opinions on this: I'm interested in this movie proposal mostly because of the lack of skunk representation on Zootopia (which I love to bits and will probably review someday!) and because of the movies it's going to be inspired by. I've never watched any of Max Landis' movies, but going by the way he talks about this project on his video, I bet that he treats all of them with a lot of love, care and attention.

Considering how ~famous~ Pepe is in the furry fandom (I unashamedly admit that I find him quite attractive in some ways, hehehe) and how much love Landis seems to be putting on this, I bet that the end result will be fantastic and fairly successful, even if only among a certain audience

I admit that you do have to change with the times, even if you lose what made your famous. But again, this is where PCs and SJWs have stuck their noses where it does not belong. Pepe was mostly harmless,he never did anything seriously bad. Nowadays,he would be creep, but he just wanted love, like we all do. He never harmed or forced a girl to like him and that puts him above most in today's world.

Even though this film idea sounds like it could potentially be an awesome film or a gigantic flop, I might still be interested in watching it when it's finally released (after the project is dropped by this guy and picked up by someone else =P j/k ). I've always loved Looney Tunes (I absolutely adore Bugs Bunny) even as a kid, and unless this film strays too far from the spirit of the old cartoons, fails to create a new/good one of its own, or turns into a completely new fail of a story that one can't even associate with a Looney Tunes cartoon anymore, I think I'll be more or less interested in seeing what they end up producing. Now that I think about it, maybe that's quite a tall/near impossible order. oO;; Well, there's always that Speedy Gonzalez film that might be coming out soon at... some unknown point in the future. oO (Anyways, back in the day, I used to empathize with the poor kitty. =P The cartoons were good for learning how to prevent unwanted advances. j/k )

I do not have high hopes for the film. Most,if not all Looney Tunes movies met with a giant flop. Not to mention, and let's ask ourselves this, does this really need to be re-done? It is a cartoon, for Christ's sake. I think people can tell reality from cartoons. Now,yes, what made him lovable in the 50's and 60's won't work well with all the PC's,the SJW's and all the other collective triggered morons. He never really hurt anyone, but if anything,he showed what you can do if you are determined. Yes,what he did would be considered assault, unwanted sexual advances, and the like, but he never hurt anyone doing it,and that is far better than a lot of these sickos running loose today.

I have seen articles about this and I saw a post that made me laugh. "What next, they are going to do a Foghorn Leghorn movie?"  If they did, they have to keep what made him great, his can't get a word in edgewise way of talking, his sayings, and the fact that he was just amusing himself (much to the chagrin of the dog). They would probably butcher Foghorn and make him consider everyone's feelings, let people have their say,and make him a pale imitation of his former self.

It was just harmless fun, people. Maybe Max Landis just wanted a project that they may green light for him.
