So I've been trying to record videos with Vizzed's MAME emulator, and here's what happens:
1) I hit record, and the first thing the emulator does is go black.
2) My files come up, and I save the file somewhere I'll remember it (last time, I chose downloads). This closes the files window.
3) The emulator remains black, and I can't see or hear anything, which leads me to believe that it crashed. If I reset the emulator, then it works fine, but the recording stops.
This has happened with all MAME games I have tested (which isn't many, but enough for me to believe that it would happen to any MAME game I tested). I've also done recordings with NES, SNES, PC-Engine/Turbo-Grafx 16, and even Game Boy games, and THOSE work fine.
Anybody know what's going on? This has worked for me about 2 years ago, and now it's not working anymore.

Just letting you know that I'm going to move this to the Help/Questions/Suggestions forum. It's unlikely that this issue will be resolved in Game Discussion.

EDIT: Actually, I got my wires crossed... This should be in the RGR forum. I shouldn't do this when I'm half asleep. : /

The built in recording doesn't really work properly because of the way MAME works.
You can record using an external program such as Camtasia or Open Broadcasting Software(OBS).

Vanelan : Welp... guess I'm not recording MAME videos anytime soon, then. External recording software isn't really an option for me right now.
I still wonder how I was able to get it to work before, though...

SuperViperT302 : Was it with an older version?
MAME typically has to be told to record before it starts via command line to my knowledge.

Vanelan : It was about 2 years ago, so I would assume so. And would you mind explaining that last part in a bit more detail?

SuperViperT302 :
The way a game is loaded is by entering certain parameters.
Vizzed takes care of that, but typically it would look something like:
mame ct486 -ramsize 64M -hard1 hdd2.chd -flop1 dos.img

The above example is of something I am working on to get dos working on MAME, but that's something you could expect to use to get MAME running.

Vanelan : Nothing that you just said makes sense to me. Oh well. I just want to put off having to record a full run of Parodius Da! for NES, since that game's gonna be terrible to get a run of.

I misread what you were trying to do... but be warned, MEDNAFEN's recordings are uncompressed and can be very large for when you do get around to doing a NES recording.

Vanelan : That's why I have Freemake- I can take the file and convert it to MP4 for uploading.
EDIT: This is starting to get off topic. We should probably put this back on topic.

Its still on the topic of recording.
And I also use freemake, but initially the files are still really big.

Vanelan : I think I might try streaming on Twitch.tv tomorrow. I'm gonna give OBS YET ANOTHER shot. Is there a tutorial anywhere on how to get OBS working with Vizzed's games and Twitch?
Note that my computer is a Gateway computer and I have Windows 7 Home Professional.

Vanelan : Something new just happened. I'm on a new computer now, and the MAME emulator still crashes when I try to record. But the strange thing is, when I view the video file after I'm done recording, it works fine. How is that happening?

I don't know...
I get the same issue if I try to record MAME with the built-in recorder.

Since you are on a new PC, perhaps you can use OBS.
