Either a gaming rig or workstation, did you ever build one and did you have any problems with it?

I have been building PCs since the mid 90s I wanna say.

I never really ran into major issues. Back in those days though, one of the most annoying things was that hard drives would be plugged in backwards or upside-down (which ever you prefer) and the pins bent fairly easily.

I sorta have, but not really.

I helped out my brother with both his PC and mine, it was really just some minor things, though, as I am scared of breaking something.

No, but I've repaired a few. I'd love to build one but I'm broke.

I've never built a PC, but I'm absolutely going to do that when I get the necessary funding for the necessary parts. Having a decent PC has always been a dream of mine, and I plan to make that dream a reality as soon as possible. A lot of my friends build PCs though so I can count on them for help and advice.

No, I never have. And I doubt that I will for quite awhile. I may build one in about 4 or 5 years, once I graduate from college with my degree in Computer Science and get a job, and can actually afford to make an amazing looking custom build. But, if I do that, I think I'll find a way to connect my game systems to it, and use one of the monitors for a screen. Maybe have the set up in my office, and then another set of consoles in the living room for the family? That sounds nice.

No but I am planning to build a pc in the near future. I was thinking of going for a $1000 gaming build with the Intel Core i5 6600/GTX 1060 6GB/16GB DDR4-2133 RAM. No overclocking for me, don't want to take the chance since it's gonna be my first build.

I have never built a PC and I don't plan on it, either. It seems way too hard to do and I'm not that much of a computer geek. My cousin got a build-your-own computer type of thing for his birthday, and it did seem kind of confusing.

Lexatom :
These days, its very simple.
Every part is basically made to only plug in 1 way and impossible to really do wrong.

acool193 : I've been building my own PC's for quite some time now. I've always enjoyed doing it myself because I can control the parts that my PC contained. Up until recently most PC's would have cheap and/or generic parts that weren't that great to keep costs down. I know that over the past few years more PCs with premium parts are becoming available, but you are still going to pay a premium price.

When building your own, you can wait for sales on NewEgg/Amazon etc and build up the parts that YOU WANT and can research to make the best PC for your needs all while controlling the cost.

The caveat is, this is not something easily done if you don't know what you are doing and never done it before.

I would suggest starting out using Frankensteined parts from old computers that you don't care about anymore or got for free. That way you don't have to worry if you mess something up. That's how I got into it as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s.

Jordanv78 : While it might look intimidating to someone that's never done it, I think its easier than its ever been.
Like I said in my previous post, everything only fits in 1 place in 1 way, so its hard to put something in the wrong place.
The days of putting in hardware the wrong way from our youth is gone.

And if there are any doubts, there is always YouTube.

Vanelan : I do get that it's a lot easier than it once was, but there can still be some growing pains with regards to your build if you don't know what to purchase or how to get the type of computer that best fits your need then know how to put everything together. Thankfully Drivers aren't as much of an issue as they once were.

I mean there are build instructions on the internet where you can just follow those, but that kinda takes the fun out of it in my opinion.

Jordanv78 : I still never really know what to pick myself.
Its hard to even get straight answers from reviewers since they are fanboys for certain brands.

I can't argue that it takes the fun out of it to just follow online instructions, but I guess I was saying its not as hard as a lot of the people in here think it is...

I've been trying to build a workstation, but I still often have questions about the best hardware for maximizing speed for completing certain tasks (no, I'm not trying to build something just for word processing). lol After I finish the workstation (more or less), I'll probably work on building a gaming PC. =)
