Now, I'm not too learned on NFL history, to be completely honest. I know alot of legendary names, Brett Farve, Kurt Warner, Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson, John Elway, etc. I know that my favorite quarterback in the NFL is Marcus Mariota. But I don't know all that much about the legends, and that's what I'd like to hear from you guys.

If you think I should add someone to this list, then please, feel free to let me know and I'll happily do it. Personally, I'm going to go with the Sheriff. He led a Colts team to the super bowl that went 1-15 without him at the helm, and then, with his arm, finally let a Denver defense carry him to his second ring. With all of his MVP awards, I think he's a solid pick.

But like I said, I don't know too much, so I'd like to hear it from all of you guys! What's your opinion on this eternal debate?

My personal pick would be Peyton Manning. I don't know all that much about the legends who came before him, but this guy was just an amazing player all-around, if not the best of all time. I'm sure I'm going to catch a lot of flak from some of the older and more knowledgeable members here, but that's my opinion based on what I know. I don't follow football nearly as intensely as a lot of the fans, so I'm far from the most qualified one to answer here. Also, dude broke a lot of all time records, which says a lot about how good he was. I was always on the Peyton band-wagon to some extent, and really didn't like how Indy dumped him like they did. At least it all worked out for the best, and he got to go out on top.

Mynamescox44 : Sweet, happy to have someone who agrees! I've always thought he was the best in the league, even before I started watching, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who disagree. We've already got one vote for Joe Montana, who was also incredible.

Thing is too, Peyton didn't have a great team around him in Indianapolis as for as I know, which makes him even more incredible.

I don't know about a few of these, but I have to agree with you guys. Peyton Manning is my pick as the greatest QB of all time. Let me just run down the list you provided. I think Joe Montana was a great quarterback, although he was a little bit before my time. I've seen quite a few highlights of him and seen a lot of his stats and the records that he holds. I'm probably a bit more biased since I grew up watching Peyton, but I think he's still a little bit better than Montana. I would say the same things I said for Montana as I would for Steve Young, Dan Marino, John Elway, Terry Bradshaw, and Steve McNair. Tom Brady is a great quarterback, and I don't want to talk about the cheating allegations and all of that, because that doesn't affect his skills as a quarterback. Although he won twice as many Super Bowls as Manning, I think he had way more help. Brady played with Randy Moss, Rob Gronkowski, Wes Welker, any many more. Manning had Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, and Demarius Thomas, but that was basically it. (Manning played with Welker too, but he was washed up at the time lol.) Brady also had one of the greatest coaches of all time in Bill Belichek. Although you can't necessarily fault Brady for that, I feel that if Manning had that much help, he would have won more Super Bowls than Brady. Drew Brees, Brett Favre, and Kurt Warner were/are all great quarterbacks, but all of them couldn't sustain that high level every year and take their team to the playoffs every year. Cam Newton is a good quarterback, but him being listed with those other guys is a joke, in my opinion. The dude has had like 3 good years, I don't think he's worthy of that title any time soon. Aaron Rodgers is one of my favorite quarterbacks, and if his career keeps progressing like it is and he hads to his ring count, I think he could easily be considered the greatest QB of all time. That's really weird because he was originalky the backup that nobody knew or cared about for arguably at the time, the greatest QB of all time, Brett Favre.

So yeah, I think Manning is the greatest QB of all time and what makes it better is his down to earth, humble personality that makes even rival teams' fans (like me) like him.

All you guys have really good points so far, and Peyton Manning was pretty good wasn't he XD I'll tell you who my top 3 QBs of all time are.

I think that from a stats prospective, Manning definitely seems like he would be the greatest of all time what with the most career passing yards and passing TDs among many others. And granted he just won his 2nd Super Bowl and I believe he was MVP in the other one when he beat the Bears that year. However, there's one stat that I can't help but not get around...and that's his career playoff losses. Manning has the most. Out of 27 career playoff games, he's lost 13 of them. I cannot get around that, for some reason. So I'm unable to consider him the best QB ever. He was great in the regular season but he only could win the Super Bowl twice, and one was in his final year. If he made the playoffs 13 times in his career, I would think that he needed to win more than just 2. I put Manning at #3 on my list.

Joe Montana is #2. I mean the guy went undefeated in the Super Bowl...4-0! A very impressive stat to say the least. He was also one of the best playoff performers of all time. He had some help from the best receiver ever in Jerry Rice in his final 2 Super Bowl wins...and maybe even some help from the stout defense that he had led by Fred Dean and Ronnie Lott, not to mention John Taylor and Brent Jones to throw to if Rice was double covered, and Roger Craig and Tom Rathman in the backfield. I know a lot of people who think he's the greatest QB ever, and I think he may deserve that title. But I think this guy is more deserving and I think we all know who that is...

Tom Brady. And its really very simple why I think he is the greatest QB ever...his postseason records. As I said when I was talking about Manning earlier, Brady is the same way but he holds just as many postseason records as Manning does in the regular season. I think the postseason means way more than the regular season does. If you don't do well in the postseason, you get criticized for it ( for example, my Falcons and Matt Ryan. Ugh, don't me started on that ) But Brady has the most postseason wins, passing yards, passing TDs, and has the most Super Bowl appearances by a QB, but he's tied with the most Super Bowl wins at 4 with Montana ( and there are a lot of other records too ). But I think its funny that both his Super Bowl losses came against the Giants, and both times Eli Manning completed an impossible pass that his receivers had to make unbelievable plays on. We could be talking about Brady at 6-0 in the Super Bowl, but history is what it is.

All 3 QBs are beyond elite, though. I applaud each and every one of them for their outstanding careers!

MattyIce: I can't agree with you there, even though you're making great points for Brady. My thing is, he literally has the best team in the NFL, no doubt about it, around him. The offence is decent except for a few stars (Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman), and Tom Brady himself, but his defense has always been very, strong. While I do understand faulting Manning for losing in the post season, I'm fairly certain that two or three of those losses were against Tom Brady, and everyone knows that Bill Belichik basically out coached him there. But until he moved to the Broncos, Peyton didn't have a great team around him. Once he got injured, his entire team collapsed, I'm fairly certain that they went 1-15 there.

And with the Giants, honestly, Tom Brady just can't beat Eli Manning for some reason. It's actually kind of funny to me. But there are rumors that Calvin Johnson could come back in the 2017 season and, since the Lions wouldn't have the cap room for his contract, go to the Patriots and get himself a ring or three. Tom Brady with Calvin Johnson and Rob Gronkowski? Absolutely terrifying.

RDay13 : The Packers have the best backup quarterbacks in the NFL, hands down. Did you know that Kurt Warner (whom I despise, since he beat my Titans in the "Duel in the Dome," even though he was actually a really cool guy) was also a backup for the Packers and actually got
cut from them before playing Arena League and then heading to the Rams, then Giants, and then almost getting another Ring with the Cardinals?

Titan127 : I'm curious as to which Colts team was bad, since you mentioned Peyton Manning didn't have a good team. And I'm baffled by you calling the New England Patriots the best team in the NFL. Have you seen their rosters? They take castaways, broken receivers, old guys, and unmotivated trash and Tom Brady makes them excellent. Tim Brown? Go to New England and kill it. Randy Moss resurrected his career there. Skinny little Wes Welker, the Red Raider, went to crush it there.

They went and got 80 year-old Corey Dillon from however many years with the Bengals and he bolstered a team put together with Bond-o and paint.

I root against Tom Brady. I hated him at Michigan, even though he didn't play much. I thought his SNL appearance was terrible. I wouldn't want to hang out with him and he seems like he knows he's too good for everyone else, like he's above the fray. But he has done more with not the greatest talent around him and he takes guys from the dumpster and makes them excellent.

MattyIce : I'm with you. Tom Brady, that sonofa*****, is the greatest NFL quarterback of all time. He wins Superbowls, he wins AFC championships, he does more with less, he doesn't get hurt, he is simply incredible.

I was hoping we were talking NCAA quarterbacks. I'd have gone with Tim Tebow, Pat White, or the winner of the greatest football game in the history of forever, Vince Young.

Ghostbear1111 : Wow now, washed up and broken receivers? Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Nate Washington, Martellus Bennett, and Rob Gronkowski all beg to differ there. The defense was one of the top ten in the NFL, and, of course, there's Tom Brady.  4 superbowl wins in recent history is insane, and with all those guys around him, it's easy to see why he has that many rings.

As for the team, the year he couldn't play left the Colts with a baffling record of 2-14. That's why I say he never had a great team around him. Reggie Wayne was great though, I'll give you that.

My pick will be Marino. I'm a huge fan of both farve and manning for a bunch of reasons but Dan takes the cake, he was just so fun to watch and really amazing.

zanderlex : Unfortunately, I never got to see Dan Marino play. I've seen some highlights of him, but that's just about it. And you see, for me, that quarterback that I love to watch is Peyton Manning, or did love to watch. I'm hoping that my man Marcus Mariota gets that good some day, but only time will tell.

Titan127 : I think the disconnect here is we're looking at two different times.

The Patriots have had always had good rosters but they have found a way to make those players look good. I've named a few, there are more, from 2001 until today.

And go look at the Colts ten years ago. Edgerrin James and a young Dominic Rhodes, paired with Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, and Dallas Clark made for a good offense.

You also have a defense with Bob Sanders, Cato June, Gary Bracket, Mike Doss.... that defense, especially in the mid-2000s, was just nasty. Heck, in either 2005 or 2006, the Colts went like 13 weeks before they lost their first game.

That team should have won more Super Bowls. They got outdueled by Brady (yuck) every year.
Titan127 : I think the disconnect here is we're looking at two different times.

Ghostbear1111 : I actually don't know any of those guys on the defense, sadly. I started keeping up with the national football league about a year ago now, but even then, the Colts defense, from what I've looked at, was never as good as that of Brady, and Bill Belichick, honestly, won those games almost every time for them. He's a mastermind of a coach, and certainly played a huge part in those victories. While the players matter, and matter a lot, those evenly matched games, more often than not, will come down to coaching and the staff.

Honestly out of Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Farve, Brady, Manning, it's really hard to choose.
Montana played and won four Super Bowls, while Brady went 4-6 in the Super Bowl.
Brady has 10 pro-bowl appearances, 2 league MVPs, and 3 SB MVPs.
Montana also won 3 Super Bowl MVP's,
Manning is very accurate, and is a very good all-around passer. He's thrown the most TDs in his career (539), has the most yards thrown by a QB (71,940), and has the most completions by a QB (6,125).
Manning has led the Colts

My top three consists of:

3) - Joe Montana (SF, 1979 - 1992, KAN 1993-1994)
2) - Tom Brady (NE, 2000-pres.)
1) - Peyton Manning (IND,1998 - 2011, DEN 2012-2015)

In my opinion, Peyton Manning is the best QB in NFL history.

(Suggestions: Warren Moon, Roger Staubach and Joe Namath.)

BestGamer24 : Wow, I'm an idiot. I'm a Titans fan and I actually forgot to put down Warren Moon, and I was just thinking of Joe Namath today, actually, lol.

Sweet! Someone else who agrees that Peyton's the best! But are you sure that he threw that many touchdowns in a single season? That would mean that he was throwing for well over thirty touchdowns a game, lol. Was that in his career?

Also Peyton had like four or five league MVPs, if I'm correct, right?

I'm a Tom Brady guy. Not only because he went two 4 super bowls and won all 4 of them while being the MVP in three of them. He has more than a incredible NFL record. He also has a amazing College football career with Michigan wolverines, my favorite college football team, Go Blue loll, but he is known has the come back wins for his remarkable wins for in witch he brings back his team from the brink. That is, in my opinion, the best QB ever.

Beastmode64 : Well, college career means a lot to get into the national football league, but once you're in, it's a completely different ball game. Take Marcus Mariota for example. He threw for an incredible amount of yardage in his last year at Oregon, but upon entering the NFL, he threw for only 2,800 yards and ran for another 200. Or Johnny Manziel, who came to the Browns after a stunning collegiate career that never blossomed into even a good one in the NFL.

As for the comebacks, quoting Peyton Manning, "You hear about how many fourth quarter comebacks that a guy has and I think it means a guy screwed up in the first three quarters." Not that Manning hasn't had comebacks of his own, but comebacks wouldn't be necessary if teams had played at their best all game.

BestGamer24 : Check your stats, man. No one has ever thrown 500+ touchdowns in a single season. It was more like 50-something. And Brady has had higher completion %s than Manning.

Titan127 : I give you a ton of credit that you were open and honest and said, "I don't know those guys." That takes a lot of bravery, especially when everyone's stats, information, and game film is readily available and you could look up some stats and say, "See? I knew it!" even if you didn't.

I applaud you and that's awesome. If I had trust points to give you, I would.

However, I think you and I are discussing things from different ends of the spectrum. I'm in my mid-30s and I've been watching these guys play since the 90s. I got to follow the Monday Night Games and the ups and downs of the careers and I watched everything play out.

Coaches can call great plays but the players execute. It's not the coach's fault when someone fumbles or someone misses a field goal and it's not the coach's glory when someone goes no-huddle and drives a field to win (another) Super Bowl. Play calling and understanding personnel and match-ups is critical but the guys on the field actually get it done.

You like your guy and you have great stats and good numbers and he's done a lot. He's easily a Top 5 Quarterback all time. I have my pick, the guy I really dislike and I root against him but he has numbers and stats and I know why I put him out there as the best QB in the history of the league.

Ultimately, good quarterbacks win Super Bowls. Brady has more and he didn't have to leave a team to join another team to win one last championship. We can leave it at that.

Ghostbear1111: That's all true, I've got to give you this one then. Honestly, I have always been a little bit tipsy when it came to this rivalry, and another thing that I have to give Brady is that he ages a hell of a lot better than Manning. I'm fairly certain that Brady's only a year younger, but he's been improving the whole time, and while Peyton did great in the 2014 season, not so much in 2015.

Thanks though, with the first stuff. Now I've
heard of Reggie Wayne, and I think I saw him in an NFL Classics game, but I'm not sure, it was the AFC Championship vs the Pats, one of the few that Manning actually won.

I think, honestly, you've convinced me to change my vote.

But why do you root against Brady? Is it the whole deflate gate thing?
