I was on twitter a few minutes ago and saw that Elie Wiesel was trending on Twitter, and instantly I thought it could only mean that he passed away and that's exactly what happened, earlier today he passed away at the age of 87.

I would have never heard of him if I wasn't forced to read one of his books, Night as part of my English class back in my Freshman year of high school and it was one of the most interesting and thought provoking books I had ever read for school, and even more so because it was the book was all about real events, of his life during the Holocaust.

For those who never heard of him, he is perhaps one of the most famous Holocaust survivors, he was a major political activist, author of more than 50 books, (of which I have read 3), and he won a Nobel Prize 30 years ago.

He didn;t die at a young age, he's done so much with his life after almost losing it, but I'm positive he'll be missed and he will leave a legacy even greater than what he has done already.

I saw that on my Yahoo trending as well. He took an event that would have crushed a normal person and used what happened to him to educate and try to do some good.

Oh...thats really sad. I'm sure he helped a lot of people with the work he did. I'm sure his legacy lives on. Its really sad to hear people like this are dying. And there are still more at it dying. I now wonder who is next to go and leave the world with his/her legacy with what they have done to help people and more in their lifetime....

I actually would not have known who he was if not for 9th grade Language Arts either (hooray Language Arts class actually taught me something ). We had to read his book "Night" in class for a project. It was a pretty sad story as was the rest of the Holocaust, and he was a very strong man to survive all of the heartbreak and loss that he suffered in the concentration camps during World War II. Normally, deaths are sad, and I'm not saying this is a good thing, but I think we should celebrate that he was able to live 60 or 70 years more than the rest of his friends and family.
