Chapter 4: Broken heart

Zoe and Jake were at Jess' home, because they saw Sarah crying. Mostly if Sarah cried, it was about Jess. Jackson explained what happened.
Zoe: "And... You're 100 percent sure this happened?"
Jackson: "Zoe, if Sarah lied, she would laugh after her lie."
Jake: "Is she going to be free?"
Jackson: "Who? Jess?"
Jake: "Yes."
Jackson: "No, not at all. She isn't welcome here anymore. Well, if she escapes from prison."
Zoe: "Wait... I heard two loud gun shots when it happened, so maybe HAROLD killed Eric and then laid the gun next to his head! I mean, Philip saw his car!"
Jake: "Then there's still hope for her!"
The two went up and went to home... Well, Zoe's home. They were about to make a plan and a reconstruction from what happened.

Later...

Zoe's mom, named Lily, came into Zoe's room to bring Zoe and Jake some cookies. She noticed they were planning a lot of things, but for what?
Lily saw a lot of papers on the floor.
Lily: "Don't forget to clean your room, Zoe."
Zoe: "Okay, mom. I won't forget."
Lily went out of the room and closed the door. Meanwhile, Zoe and Jake continued making a plan and reconstruction of what happened.
Zoe: "Okay, so if Harold could have killed Eric... Wait a second... I was looking there and i saw Harold knocked out on the street. How are we going to explain THAT?"
Jake: "Eh... That's a good one..."
They were thinking hardly. They laid on the ground, in the meantime.
Zoe: "Hang on. Harold is always a bit clumsy in something and forgets one specific detail in every crime he has to do with. Like when he kidnapped me: I called 911 and the person on the other side heard everything and already knew where i was."
Jake: "So... We blame Harold for knocking himself out when he wanted to escape?"
Zoe: "I guess... And that plank laying next to him... We'll just write down he hit his head with the broken busstop."
Zoe grabbed a pencil and wrote down what she said on a piece of paper.
Jake: "But... The most important thing: Will they believe us?"
Zoe: "There are two endings for this: They believe us and Jess will be free, or they believe Harold and Jess is in prison."
Jake: "But... Who is gonna be the people we mean with "they"? I mean... We call out "They" and "Them", but who are they?"
Zoe: "I think... *sigh* we have to start a trial at the court. It's the only option."
Jake went up.
Jake: "Well, let's go!"
Zoe: "Hold on, Jake..."
Jake went on the floor again.
Jake: "What is it, Zoe?"
Zoe: "I... got to admit something. And... as we're alone, i think it's time for that now..."
She started to blush and looked away from Jake. Zoe was pretty shy towards other school students, but if Jake was with her, she wasn't.
Jake: "Aha, i think i know what you're about to say, but i'll let you say it first."
Zoe: "Oh?..."
Zoe started to look at Jake with a hidden smile. If Jake thought what Zoe thought, then Jake loved Zoe.
Jake: "I think you had to keep that mistake Philip made with Math a secret! And you were too shy to tell it, am i right?"
Zoe's brain was thinking all kinds of things: Did Jake loved Zoe? Did Jake forget Zoe is Jake's best friend on school? Zoe looked away from Jake.
Zoe: "Uh... actually..."
Jake: "Oh, it wasn't that?"
Zoe looked at Jake again and wasn't sure, but said it anyway and hoped for the best.
Zoe: "Jake McFisher... I-i love you... a lot..."
Jake: "..."
Jake was speechless. He never had someone as a friend who also loved him as a crush. But what did he need to say back? That he loved Zoe too? That he wants to be with her? He didn't even said that to Will, who could keep secrets better than anyone on school.
Jake: "Zoe..."
Zoe: "Yes...?"
Jake: "I wish this was the opposite, but... I don't... love you."
Zoe: "W-what?..."
Zoe's heart broke. She looked at Jake very confused, but she knew what happened a few seconds ago. She went up.
Zoe: "So... *sniff* that one time you said you liked me... That was a lie?!"
Jake: "Zoe, wait."
Zoe walked towards the door fast and opened it.
Zoe: "*sob* Well, that you were cool was a lie too!"
Jake: "Zoe, i meant that i liked..."
Zoe slammed the door really hardly.
Jake: "...you as a friend... *sigh*"
Jake was looking at the papers Zoe and Jake made so far. Jake was disappointed on himself. He knew he did something bad. For him, as bad as what Jess did. He had to apologize, he thought. Yes, that may do it. But... Do i love her? That's what he thought. Meanwhile, Zoe ran downstairs, crying a lot. She opened the front door without knowing Lily was in the kitchen and heard Zoe slamming the door. Zoe grabbed her schoolbag and literally ran away. She would obviously go to her best friend... Wait... She was in prison, because it was Jess who was Zoe's best friend. And going to Mike and Rachel isn't easy either: They were camping that evening, and as it's 8:00 PM... So the only option would be Philip. Or Martin, but Martin was on vacation.

Zoe ran as hard as she could towards Philip's home, but... She ran into someone. Though he wasn't tall, Zoe managed to ran into him.
???: "Hey, watch it up there, will you!"
Zoe: "Ow, sorry Mr..."
???: "Ah, how unfriendly of me. Ryan Grant is the name! Why were you rushing that fast?"
Zoe: "Sorry, Mr... *cough* eh... Ryan. I'm a little bit LOW on air..."
Ryan: "..."
Zoe: "*cough* what?"
Ryan: "Don't make jokes of my size, please. Well, see you tomorrow at school, Zoe!"
Zoe: "...huh? School? Zoe?"
Ryan: "Haha! That was your name, right? And yes, i'm new on your school."
Zoe: "Uh..."
Ryan: "It's okay, i'm not that smart either. See you tomorrow."
Zoe: "Bye, Ryan. Don't forget to REACH THE TOP on... Oh. Never mind."
Ryan: "Good."
Ryan walked away and Zoe walked towards the house of Philip, which wasn't far. Once she was there, it was 8:24 PM. As usual, she saw Philip and his father Maurice being mad at each other again. She rang the doorbell.
Maurice: "Darn it Philip, get the door!"
Philip: "Okay, father..."
Philip walked to the door and opened it.
Philip: "Oh, Zoe. Greetings."
Zoe: "Hi, Phil. I got a huge problem at my home, can i talk to you about it?"
Philip: "Uh... Sorry, but my father blames me for picking up tools for car."
Maurice yelled from the living room: "YOU IDIOT! YOU STOLE IT!"
Philip pointed at his father with a tired face.
Zoe: "I see..."
She walked away.
Philip: "Zoe! Did i said "yes" or "no"? I did not gave answer yet."
Zoe: "So, you let me in?"
Philip: "I... think now will be problem..."
Zoe: "Oh... I see... Bye, Phil."
Philip: "Oh, if you see Mike, give this!"
He was getting a piece of paper from his pocket and threw it to Zoe. She catched it, although she couldn't catch things good. She walked towards Mike's house. Meanwhile, she was curious what was written on the paper. She decided to take a look.

"Hey, Mike!

I heard Jess was in prison now. That's bad. But i got a idea: Can we talk about happening things one day? Then we make plan how to get Jess free from prison. Hope no one got the idea already.

- Philip"

Zoe was rolling up the piece of paper again and put it in her schoolbag of which she took with her.
Zoe: "Hmm... So Jake and i weren't alone?"
She sighed.
Zoe: "I thought i already got over it... But..."
She left a tear.
Zoe: "*sigh* I guess not... *sob*"
She started to cry again. She sat down the road.
Zoe: "Waaah! Why does nobody love me?! *sob* My only hope was Jake, and now... *sniff* no one!"
She cried a lot, just like the weather. It started to rain, to be more exact. It didn't seem Zoe cared about that. She loved Jake, but that dream is over now.
Zoe: "*sob* My life is destroyed now, thanks to Jake... *sniff*"
She continued crying while sitting on the side of the road, with the heavy rain falling down without a pause. Suddenly, a hand was laying on her shoulder. Zoe had a shock when it was there suddenly, but it didn't feel creepy somehow. She looked behind and it was her grandmother Maria. She was helping in a library mostly in the evening, so it wouldn't surprise her if Maria was closing it. Maria smiled to Zoe and said something.
Maria: "Hello, Zoe. Why are you crying? The weather is already bad, but seeing you cry must be the worst thing today. What's wrong, dear?"
Zoe: "Hi, grandma... Are you going to your home?"
Maria: "Yes dear. I need to, as they expect a really, really bad weather tonight."
Zoe: "Mind if i come with you and explain everything?"
Maria: "Of course i don't mind. My car is over there, come on!"
They went to the car Maria parked close to the library.

Meanwhile...

Jake explained what happened to Lily, Zoe's mom. Lily was quite shocked what happened.
Lily: "So... She confessed her love and you have no use with it?"
Jake: "Yes... *sigh* And now i feel very bad for that. I mean, we are best friends, and we aren't there for each other just to make each other angry or sad."
Lily: "Well, if she returns, you should apologize."
Jake: "Yeah, IF she returns, as she ran away."
Lily: "Maybe she's with Maria, my mother. I'll call her."
Lily grabbed her mobile phone and called Maria. No one answered. Lily decided to cancel it 30 seconds later.
Lily: "She's not there."
Jake: "Wait, i mostly see Zoe's grandma when i walk past the library."
Lily: "Then Maria should be going home now, of which i truly understand. I mean, look at the weather."
The two were looking through a window, and it was raining badly.
Lily: "Want some coffee, Jake?"
Jake: "Oh, thanks. But i don't like coffee."
Lily: "Oh that's okay, tea instead?"
Jake: "No thank you, i remember what happened last time i had tea."
Lily: "And what happened back then?"
Jake: "Well, i'm allergic to berries. And i almost fainted when i was drinking a cup of tea once."
Lily: "Oh?"
Jake: "Yeah. It's pretty scary if you have that. I know someone who was allergic to mushrooms, but he moved to the Netherlands."
Lily: "Ooh, the Netherlands. I really want to go there one day with Zoe."
Jake: "I haven't been there yet. Mind if i join, then?"
Lily: "Haha, of course i don't mind! Well, if Zoe gets over this whole situation, then she might be calm towards you. And if we go to the Netherlands, then your love may grow."
Jake: "What?"
Lily: "Yes, i heard that if a couple go on vacation, they might end up being closer... Or they return mad at each other."
Jake: "Ok then, since when did you know this?"
Lily: "Well... i know a lot, Zoe says."

Back to Zoe...

Zoe and Maria were at Maria's home, and Zoe explained what happened.
Zoe: "I just... *sniff* don't want to feel lonely. I just wanted Jake to accept my feelings."
Zoe cried some more. Maria laid her hand on Zoe's back.
Maria: "I understand that this is a tough moment, getting over a broken heart... I had a crush when i was your age. And when i heard he didn't love me anymore, i was thinking about things i like to do, and i even had the chance to get on a vacation."
Zoe: "*sniff* But... Vacations only make it worse, right?"
Maria: "No, no, not at all! It can be nice to be alone in times like that. I'm sure you'll get over it quickly."
Zoe: "*sniff* thanks, grandma... I feel a lot better now when i talk with you."
Maria: "See? I told you you can let everything go if you're with me."
The weather outside changed from plain rain to thunder. Lightning struck somewhere and there was a loud sound from the thunder.
Maria: "Oh dear, the weather is really, really bad now. You should stay here tonight, sweetheart."
Zoe: "And what about school?"
Maria: "It's Saturday tomorrow, Zoe. You don't have school tomorrow."
Zoe: "Oh right. I'm so confused because of this situation."
It was already 10:15 PM. The phone rang. Maria picked up the phone horn.
Maria: "Maria here... Oh hey, Lily! How are... Yes, she's here with me."
Zoe: "Huh? Mom's looking for me?"
Maria: "Alright, i'll tell her the situation if that's okay. Yes, she is staying here tonight, i cannot let her go outside now."
Zoe: "Ugh... I think i'll go upstairs, grandma..."
Maria: "Okay, Zoe. No, Zoe was going upstairs."
Zoe was looking for a good room to sleep in, and picked one quickly: The guest room.
She was switching from her clothes to some pyjamas Zoe had laying at Maria's house in case she had to sleep over. Like now. Once she put on her shirt, Maria knocked on the door.
Maria: "Zoe?"
Zoe (from the other side): "Yeah?"
Maria: "I... *sigh* got disappointing news."
Maria opened the door. She saw Zoe sitting on the bed in that room.
Zoe: "W-what's the matter?"
Maria was sitting next to Zoe.
Maria: "You know that Nathan was missing in the Himalaya's and that he was found, right?"
Zoe: "*sigh* Yes, my dad... Is he okay?"
Maria: "He died this evening."
Zoe: "W-what?!"
Maria: "I didn't mean to make it all worse, but i had to tell that from your mom..."
Zoe: "So... My dad died?"
Maria laid a hand over Zoe.
Maria: "Yes..."
Zoe: "But... H-how? I heard he was fine a week ago!"
Maria: "Zoe, he has been killed by someone who probably hated him a lot. He was being..."
Zoe: "*sniff* I don't want to hear it."
Maria: "Why not?"
Zoe: "My dad died, my crush doesn't love me... If there's anything that goes wrong from now on, i won't be here anymore..."
Maria: "I'm sure it will be alright, sweetheart..."
Zoe shaked off Maria's hand.
Zoe: "No! It won't be alright anymore! If Jake doesn't love me and my dad died, i don't have any reason to be alive anymore!"
Downstairs, the phone rang. Maria looked at Zoe.
Zoe: "UGH, i get it: i need to take that phone!"
Zoe walked downstairs. She was grabbing the phone, but she recognized the number. If it was the person of who she thought he would call, then this is the moment of truth.
Zoe: "H-hello?"
???: "Hello, miss. With who am i speaking?"
Zoe: "With Zoe..."
???: "Zoe?! I thought i called up your grandma!"
Zoe: "Heh heh, well... I had to stay over. But who am i speaking with?"
???: "Ryan Grant, of course!"
Zoe: "Ryan... Grant?"
Ryan: "Yeah, we spoke earlier this evening!"
Zoe: "Oh yeah! But... How did you get this number?"
Ryan: "Well, let me... HEY! Lay down that plane, Dick! It's not a toy, it's a masterpiece!"
Zoe: "Dick? You just called someone... Dick?"
Ryan: "Oh, don't misunderstand me, but that's his actual name. My brother's friends can't leave my collectable planes alone, they NEED to touch it. But back to your number: I got it from a friend who's next to me."
Zoe: "Who?"
Ryan: "She wants to speak to you."
???: "Hi, Zoe."
Zoe: "Oh great, now i just speak to another... Hey, Wait a second... Jake?"
Jake: "Yes?"
Zoe: "Oh... So it is you..."
Jake: "Yes, i heard you were here. But i got to admit something... As well..."
Zoe: "Like?"
Jake: "I feel sorry, very sorry, for disappointing you with your feelings for me. I want to apologize, and... Heh heh... To be honest: I was in love with you once."
Zoe didn't get what she just heard. What did he say?
Zoe: "..."
Jake: "And, well... Now i just wasn't in love anymore with you. But you seem to be nice, kind and..."
Zoe: "Heh heh... Thanks... and?"
Zoe's anger towards Jake was gone.
Jake: "You're... beautiful?"
Zoe: " Ha ha, why do you ask it?"
Jake: "Because Ryan and Dick are still here, you know."
Zoe: "Oh, oops. Should i say about you what you are?"
Jake: "Sure, go ahead."
Zoe: "You're... Cool, helpful and caring about others."
Jake: "Gee, thanks Zoe. If we were together now, this would be just like a romantic movie... Or something."
Ryan (from far away): "That's disgusting."
Jake: "Well, it is true, Ryan. Don't expect me higher than that..."
Ryan: "WHAT!?"
Jake: "Eh, Zoe? I got to hang up, Ryan doesn't take what i said quite positive... See you. Kisses!"
Zoe: "But..."
Beep!
Did he said "kisses"? Wow. Maria was downstairs the whole time. She was reading a book and once Zoe clicked the red horn on the phone, Maria went up.
Maria: "Going to bed?"
Zoe: "Yeah, it's already 11:52 PM. *yaaawn* See you tomorrow, grandma."
Zoe walked up the stairs. Maria was going to the kitchen to get something. Meanwhile, Zoe fell on her bed, sighed heavily and believed everything is good now, because Jake loves her too. Wait, does he love Zoe? Or did they just say nice things to each other? Zoe started to think about that. But she couldn't hold the thoughts she had: She fell asleep quickly. That night, she dreamed about her and Jake having a wonderful life with each other. That they had a relationship with each other, that they were married, that they had a family... And the dream ended when Ryan was chased by the two kids Zoe and Jake had in the dream.

Note 2.0: I made this chapter 1.2x longer, because... well... Why not? I first thought of making this 2-in-1 (Chapter 4 & 5), but then it would be WAY too long.
And the note in the beginning says "No main characters". Also, there aren't much surprises left, so i got to save THEM as well. Phew, that's a lot of work.

Lily saw a lot of papers on the floor.
Lily: "Don't forget to clean your room, Zoe."
Zoe: "Okay, mom. I won't forget."
Lily went out of the room and closed the door. Meanwhile, Zoe and Jake continued making a plan and reconstruction of what happened.
Zoe: "Okay, so if Harold could have killed Eric... Wait a second... I was looking there and i saw Harold knocked out on the street. How are we going to explain THAT?"
Jake: "Eh... That's a good one..."
They were thinking hardly. They laid on the ground, in the meantime.
Zoe: "Hang on. Harold is always a bit clumsy in something and forgets one specific detail in every crime he has to do with. Like when he kidnapped me: I called 911 and the person on the other side heard everything and already knew where i was."
Jake: "So... We blame Harold for knocking himself out when he wanted to escape?"
Zoe: "I guess... And that plank laying next to him... We'll just write down he hit his head with the broken busstop."
Zoe grabbed a pencil and wrote down what she said on a piece of paper.
Jake: "But... The most important thing: Will they believe us?"
Zoe: "There are two endings for this: They believe us and Jess will be free, or they believe Harold and Jess is in prison."
Jake: "But... Who is gonna be the people we mean with "they"? I mean... We call out "They" and "Them", but who are they?"
Zoe: "I think... *sigh* we have to start a trial at the court. It's the only option."
Jake went up.
Jake: "Well, let's go!"
Zoe: "Hold on, Jake..."
Jake went on the floor again.
Jake: "What is it, Zoe?"
Zoe: "I... got to admit something. And... as we're alone, i think it's time for that now..."
She started to blush and looked away from Jake. Zoe was pretty shy towards other school students, but if Jake was with her, she wasn't.
Jake: "Aha, i think i know what you're about to say, but i'll let you say it first."
Zoe: "Oh?..."
Zoe started to look at Jake with a hidden smile. If Jake thought what Zoe thought, then Jake loved Zoe.
Jake: "I think you had to keep that mistake Philip made with Math a secret! And you were too shy to tell it, am i right?"
Zoe's brain was thinking all kinds of things: Did Jake loved Zoe? Did Jake forget Zoe is Jake's best friend on school? Zoe looked away from Jake.
Zoe: "Uh... actually..."
Jake: "Oh, it wasn't that?"
Zoe looked at Jake again and wasn't sure, but said it anyway and hoped for the best.
Zoe: "Jake McFisher... I-i love you... a lot..."
Jake: "..."
Jake was speechless. He never had someone as a friend who also loved him as a crush. But what did he need to say back? That he loved Zoe too? That he wants to be with her? He didn't even said that to Will, who could keep secrets better than anyone on school.
Jake: "Zoe..."
Zoe: "Yes...?"
Jake: "I wish this was the opposite, but... I don't... love you."
Zoe: "W-what?..."
Zoe's heart broke. She looked at Jake very confused, but she knew what happened a few seconds ago. She went up.
Zoe: "So... *sniff* that one time you said you liked me... That was a lie?!"
Jake: "Zoe, wait."
Zoe walked towards the door fast and opened it.
Zoe: "*sob* Well, that you were cool was a lie too!"
Jake: "Zoe, i meant that i liked..."
Zoe slammed the door really hardly.
Jake: "...you as a friend... *sigh*"
Jake was looking at the papers Zoe and Jake made so far. Jake was disappointed on himself. He knew he did something bad. For him, as bad as what Jess did. He had to apologize, he thought. Yes, that may do it. But... Do i love her? That's what he thought. Meanwhile, Zoe ran downstairs, crying a lot. She opened the front door without knowing Lily was in the kitchen and heard Zoe slamming the door. Zoe grabbed her schoolbag and literally ran away. She would obviously go to her best friend... Wait... She was in prison, because it was Jess who was Zoe's best friend. And going to Mike and Rachel isn't easy either: They were camping that evening, and as it's 8:00 PM... So the only option would be Philip. Or Martin, but Martin was on vacation.

Zoe ran as hard as she could towards Philip's home, but... She ran into someone. Though he wasn't tall, Zoe managed to ran into him.
???: "Hey, watch it up there, will you!"
Zoe: "Ow, sorry Mr..."
???: "Ah, how unfriendly of me. Ryan Grant is the name! Why were you rushing that fast?"
Zoe: "Sorry, Mr... *cough* eh... Ryan. I'm a little bit LOW on air..."
Ryan: "..."
Zoe: "*cough* what?"
Ryan: "Don't make jokes of my size, please. Well, see you tomorrow at school, Zoe!"
Zoe: "...huh? School? Zoe?"
Ryan: "Haha! That was your name, right? And yes, i'm new on your school."
Zoe: "Uh..."
Ryan: "It's okay, i'm not that smart either. See you tomorrow."
Zoe: "Bye, Ryan. Don't forget to REACH THE TOP on... Oh. Never mind."
Ryan: "Good."
Ryan walked away and Zoe walked towards the house of Philip, which wasn't far. Once she was there, it was 8:24 PM. As usual, she saw Philip and his father Maurice being mad at each other again. She rang the doorbell.
Maurice: "Darn it Philip, get the door!"
Philip: "Okay, father..."
Philip walked to the door and opened it.
Philip: "Oh, Zoe. Greetings."
Zoe: "Hi, Phil. I got a huge problem at my home, can i talk to you about it?"
Philip: "Uh... Sorry, but my father blames me for picking up tools for car."
Maurice yelled from the living room: "YOU IDIOT! YOU STOLE IT!"
Philip pointed at his father with a tired face.
Zoe: "I see..."
She walked away.
Philip: "Zoe! Did i said "yes" or "no"? I did not gave answer yet."
Zoe: "So, you let me in?"
Philip: "I... think now will be problem..."
Zoe: "Oh... I see... Bye, Phil."
Philip: "Oh, if you see Mike, give this!"
He was getting a piece of paper from his pocket and threw it to Zoe. She catched it, although she couldn't catch things good. She walked towards Mike's house. Meanwhile, she was curious what was written on the paper. She decided to take a look.

"Hey, Mike!

I heard Jess was in prison now. That's bad. But i got a idea: Can we talk about happening things one day? Then we make plan how to get Jess free from prison. Hope no one got the idea already.

- Philip"

Zoe was rolling up the piece of paper again and put it in her schoolbag of which she took with her.
Zoe: "Hmm... So Jake and i weren't alone?"
She sighed.
Zoe: "I thought i already got over it... But..."
She left a tear.
Zoe: "*sigh* I guess not... *sob*"
She started to cry again. She sat down the road.
Zoe: "Waaah! Why does nobody love me?! *sob* My only hope was Jake, and now... *sniff* no one!"
She cried a lot, just like the weather. It started to rain, to be more exact. It didn't seem Zoe cared about that. She loved Jake, but that dream is over now.
Zoe: "*sob* My life is destroyed now, thanks to Jake... *sniff*"
She continued crying while sitting on the side of the road, with the heavy rain falling down without a pause. Suddenly, a hand was laying on her shoulder. Zoe had a shock when it was there suddenly, but it didn't feel creepy somehow. She looked behind and it was her grandmother Maria. She was helping in a library mostly in the evening, so it wouldn't surprise her if Maria was closing it. Maria smiled to Zoe and said something.
Maria: "Hello, Zoe. Why are you crying? The weather is already bad, but seeing you cry must be the worst thing today. What's wrong, dear?"
Zoe: "Hi, grandma... Are you going to your home?"
Maria: "Yes dear. I need to, as they expect a really, really bad weather tonight."
Zoe: "Mind if i come with you and explain everything?"
Maria: "Of course i don't mind. My car is over there, come on!"
They went to the car Maria parked close to the library.

Meanwhile...

Jake explained what happened to Lily, Zoe's mom. Lily was quite shocked what happened.
Lily: "So... She confessed her love and you have no use with it?"
Jake: "Yes... *sigh* And now i feel very bad for that. I mean, we are best friends, and we aren't there for each other just to make each other angry or sad."
Lily: "Well, if she returns, you should apologize."
Jake: "Yeah, IF she returns, as she ran away."
Lily: "Maybe she's with Maria, my mother. I'll call her."
Lily grabbed her mobile phone and called Maria. No one answered. Lily decided to cancel it 30 seconds later.
Lily: "She's not there."
Jake: "Wait, i mostly see Zoe's grandma when i walk past the library."
Lily: "Then Maria should be going home now, of which i truly understand. I mean, look at the weather."
The two were looking through a window, and it was raining badly.
Lily: "Want some coffee, Jake?"
Jake: "Oh, thanks. But i don't like coffee."
Lily: "Oh that's okay, tea instead?"
Jake: "No thank you, i remember what happened last time i had tea."
Lily: "And what happened back then?"
Jake: "Well, i'm allergic to berries. And i almost fainted when i was drinking a cup of tea once."
Lily: "Oh?"
Jake: "Yeah. It's pretty scary if you have that. I know someone who was allergic to mushrooms, but he moved to the Netherlands."
Lily: "Ooh, the Netherlands. I really want to go there one day with Zoe."
Jake: "I haven't been there yet. Mind if i join, then?"
Lily: "Haha, of course i don't mind! Well, if Zoe gets over this whole situation, then she might be calm towards you. And if we go to the Netherlands, then your love may grow."
Jake: "What?"
Lily: "Yes, i heard that if a couple go on vacation, they might end up being closer... Or they return mad at each other."
Jake: "Ok then, since when did you know this?"
Lily: "Well... i know a lot, Zoe says."

Back to Zoe...

Zoe and Maria were at Maria's home, and Zoe explained what happened.
Zoe: "I just... *sniff* don't want to feel lonely. I just wanted Jake to accept my feelings."
Zoe cried some more. Maria laid her hand on Zoe's back.
Maria: "I understand that this is a tough moment, getting over a broken heart... I had a crush when i was your age. And when i heard he didn't love me anymore, i was thinking about things i like to do, and i even had the chance to get on a vacation."
Zoe: "*sniff* But... Vacations only make it worse, right?"
Maria: "No, no, not at all! It can be nice to be alone in times like that. I'm sure you'll get over it quickly."
Zoe: "*sniff* thanks, grandma... I feel a lot better now when i talk with you."
Maria: "See? I told you you can let everything go if you're with me."
The weather outside changed from plain rain to thunder. Lightning struck somewhere and there was a loud sound from the thunder.
Maria: "Oh dear, the weather is really, really bad now. You should stay here tonight, sweetheart."
Zoe: "And what about school?"
Maria: "It's Saturday tomorrow, Zoe. You don't have school tomorrow."
Zoe: "Oh right. I'm so confused because of this situation."
It was already 10:15 PM. The phone rang. Maria picked up the phone horn.
Maria: "Maria here... Oh hey, Lily! How are... Yes, she's here with me."
Zoe: "Huh? Mom's looking for me?"
Maria: "Alright, i'll tell her the situation if that's okay. Yes, she is staying here tonight, i cannot let her go outside now."
Zoe: "Ugh... I think i'll go upstairs, grandma..."
Maria: "Okay, Zoe. No, Zoe was going upstairs."
Zoe was looking for a good room to sleep in, and picked one quickly: The guest room.
She was switching from her clothes to some pyjamas Zoe had laying at Maria's house in case she had to sleep over. Like now. Once she put on her shirt, Maria knocked on the door.
Maria: "Zoe?"
Zoe (from the other side): "Yeah?"
Maria: "I... *sigh* got disappointing news."
Maria opened the door. She saw Zoe sitting on the bed in that room.
Zoe: "W-what's the matter?"
Maria was sitting next to Zoe.
Maria: "You know that Nathan was missing in the Himalaya's and that he was found, right?"
Zoe: "*sigh* Yes, my dad... Is he okay?"
Maria: "He died this evening."
Zoe: "W-what?!"
Maria: "I didn't mean to make it all worse, but i had to tell that from your mom..."
Zoe: "So... My dad died?"
Maria laid a hand over Zoe.
Maria: "Yes..."
Zoe: "But... H-how? I heard he was fine a week ago!"
Maria: "Zoe, he has been killed by someone who probably hated him a lot. He was being..."
Zoe: "*sniff* I don't want to hear it."
Maria: "Why not?"
Zoe: "My dad died, my crush doesn't love me... If there's anything that goes wrong from now on, i won't be here anymore..."
Maria: "I'm sure it will be alright, sweetheart..."
Zoe shaked off Maria's hand.
Zoe: "No! It won't be alright anymore! If Jake doesn't love me and my dad died, i don't have any reason to be alive anymore!"
Downstairs, the phone rang. Maria looked at Zoe.
Zoe: "UGH, i get it: i need to take that phone!"
Zoe walked downstairs. She was grabbing the phone, but she recognized the number. If it was the person of who she thought he would call, then this is the moment of truth.
Zoe: "H-hello?"
???: "Hello, miss. With who am i speaking?"
Zoe: "With Zoe..."
???: "Zoe?! I thought i called up your grandma!"
Zoe: "Heh heh, well... I had to stay over. But who am i speaking with?"
???: "Ryan Grant, of course!"
Zoe: "Ryan... Grant?"
Ryan: "Yeah, we spoke earlier this evening!"
Zoe: "Oh yeah! But... How did you get this number?"
Ryan: "Well, let me... HEY! Lay down that plane, Dick! It's not a toy, it's a masterpiece!"
Zoe: "Dick? You just called someone... Dick?"
Ryan: "Oh, don't misunderstand me, but that's his actual name. My brother's friends can't leave my collectable planes alone, they NEED to touch it. But back to your number: I got it from a friend who's next to me."
Zoe: "Who?"
Ryan: "She wants to speak to you."
???: "Hi, Zoe."
Zoe: "Oh great, now i just speak to another... Hey, Wait a second... Jake?"
Jake: "Yes?"
Zoe: "Oh... So it is you..."
Jake: "Yes, i heard you were here. But i got to admit something... As well..."
Zoe: "Like?"
Jake: "I feel sorry, very sorry, for disappointing you with your feelings for me. I want to apologize, and... Heh heh... To be honest: I was in love with you once."
Zoe didn't get what she just heard. What did he say?
Zoe: "..."
Jake: "And, well... Now i just wasn't in love anymore with you. But you seem to be nice, kind and..."
Zoe: "Heh heh... Thanks... and?"
Zoe's anger towards Jake was gone.
Jake: "You're... beautiful?"
Zoe: " Ha ha, why do you ask it?"
Jake: "Because Ryan and Dick are still here, you know."
Zoe: "Oh, oops. Should i say about you what you are?"
Jake: "Sure, go ahead."
Zoe: "You're... Cool, helpful and caring about others."
Jake: "Gee, thanks Zoe. If we were together now, this would be just like a romantic movie... Or something."
Ryan (from far away): "That's disgusting."
Jake: "Well, it is true, Ryan. Don't expect me higher than that..."
Ryan: "WHAT!?"
Jake: "Eh, Zoe? I got to hang up, Ryan doesn't take what i said quite positive... See you. Kisses!"
Zoe: "But..."
Beep!
Did he said "kisses"? Wow. Maria was downstairs the whole time. She was reading a book and once Zoe clicked the red horn on the phone, Maria went up.
Maria: "Going to bed?"
Zoe: "Yeah, it's already 11:52 PM. *yaaawn* See you tomorrow, grandma."
Zoe walked up the stairs. Maria was going to the kitchen to get something. Meanwhile, Zoe fell on her bed, sighed heavily and believed everything is good now, because Jake loves her too. Wait, does he love Zoe? Or did they just say nice things to each other? Zoe started to think about that. But she couldn't hold the thoughts she had: She fell asleep quickly. That night, she dreamed about her and Jake having a wonderful life with each other. That they had a relationship with each other, that they were married, that they had a family... And the dream ended when Ryan was chased by the two kids Zoe and Jake had in the dream.

Note: I cannot prove whether the tips Maria gave to Zoe actually work, so please don't try them yourself.

Note 2.0: I made this chapter 1.2x longer, because... well... Why not? I first thought of making this 2-in-1 (Chapter 4 & 5), but then it would be WAY too long.
And the note in the beginning says "No main characters". Also, there aren't much surprises left, so i got to save THEM as well. Phew, that's a lot of work.
