Hello there a 5 months a go I went to a CD
DVD exchange and I bought god of war for my ps2 I put the game in my
ps2 "Fat" and said it  could not read disk. So I clean the disk and put
it back in it started spinning then said could not read disk ps2 error.
After that I got a little bit mad cause I though my ps2 was broken. So I
put my tekken 4 in and it read the disk and in ran fine. So I went into
to deep research and found out my laser wasn't work properly so I took
my ps2 apart to clean it unfortunately  the disk laser was covered with
security screws I don't have any security screw drivers.so I decided
just to leave it alone and put my ps2 back together "I only took apart
the case". So  next I was just looking at my god of war and I felt like
it was calling towards me  like it was saying play me don't worry it
will all be fine. So since I listened I took apart my ps2 "except for
the disk tray" and clean it and put it back together. Plug my ps2 back
in and put in god of war and it still didn't work. I took god of war out
then put tekken in tekken played smoothly. Then I took tekken out. Then
I turned my ps2 back to put god of war  and it got stuck.it wouldn't go
back in. At this point I am frustrated so I take out my ps2 clean it
again and this time  I saw something. It was the power eject ribbon cord
it was loose so I take it out and some how tare it in half just by
pulling it out. So its been 3 months now the only way I can play video
games is on my 3ds and vizzed and the disk tray is still open it wont
close what should I do?

P.S my ps2 is a Fat scph 50001 model.
do you know any stores that sale security screw drivers?

I've never heard of a "security screw driver" but in my experience with fat model ps2s, you only need a Philips head screw driver (normal sized and eye glasses sized). If the screws in your ps2 isn't a Philips head, you could google laser cleaning instructions for a 5001 model. I highly doubt it to be a laser issue though because Tekken works fine. Try to find a friends ps2 and try both Tekken and God of War in there. I would want to bet that the disc doesn't work. And for the power ribbon cable, you can get it on eBay. If you can't find another ps2, try ripping ISO of the game with your computer (assuming you have a DVD drive). If you are on Windows, just use IMGburn to rip it. If it works without a problem then it shouldn't be the disc.

Would you be able to take a picture, upload it and post it here of the screws?

I way almost sure that the drive/lens had regular Phillips screws as well... the only other thing that might possibly be in there are torx screws which are star shaped.
You can get bits like that at any hardware store.

I would say either look on Amazon for that eject ribbon and hope you can do it yourself. Also, you should be able to find Torx,Hex,and Allen type drivers at any hardware store. But truthfully, you might want to just grab another PS2.

I had a similar issue with my PS2, but it was that way when it was given to me (used). If the disc is blue backed instead of silver then yeah, you need to replace the lens, not clean it.

Also given what you said about the eject ribbon, unless that particular PS2 has sentimental value to you, you're better off buying another. You can get them at most game shops for about thirty or forty dollars (where I live anyway), plus any respectable shop will give you a warranty on it so you can return it if it has any problems like this one does. Whereas if you pay for the parts or service to fix this one, you'll probably incur more expenses, or at least roughly the same.

I realize this is a late reply, so I hope it's still relevant.

fangsonic : I'm fairly certain that I have that exact model and I've taken it apart before. All I've ever seen were Philips screws.... As far as the ribbon goes, you can replace it, but it's going to be a pain. Unless you want to keep it for personal reasons, you might want to consider selling it for parts and buying another one. As far as the laser goes, you can take it apart and clean the laser with alcohol, but for those of us that are slightly less versed in reverse engineering, you can go to any Wal-Mart or Dollar General and buy a special CD with a brush built into it to dust it off. If that doesn't work, it may need recalibrating, and if That doesn't work, your laser's dead and needs replacing.

Don't know if this will help, but, my PS2 is super old, and the only way I've been able to wrestle it out of hospice, kicking and screaming, is to try putting something a bit heavy-ish, but not too heavy, like a game case on top of the PS2.

I'm using the slim model though, but, it might work and it might not, but you might have to do some fiddling to find the right spot.Still, I'd say it's worth a shot.

Spidey243 : The original PlayStation 2 design was a front loader with a disc tray that slides out, much like the XBOX 360.
