I played the multiplayer beta and hated it.
Even though the single player is apparently different and made by another company (which I thought was kinda weird), I don't know if there would be enough redeeming value in just single player for me to justify buying the new Doom.
If there was a co-op mode, that might have made me reconsider, but they didn't even add that.

Just my 2 cents...

I've been playing the original Doom games (1 and 2) since hearing about the release of this game. While I think it will be a fun FPS style game overall I just can't imagine it feeling like "Doom". They could have given the game just about any name and it would have probably been a good game without the people who grew up playing the original wanting it to be a throwback or something like that.

Still, I expect the single player campaign will be pretty good. I've heard good things about the single player campaign and bad things about the multiplayer. I won't pay full price for it that's for sure.

I bought the game yesterday and I love it. I was never the biggest fan of the previous doom games but I saw trailers and all for this game and even though I was suspicious at first that they didn't hand out review copies i love this game.

Its a mindless shooter and thats why I love it. Its pretty damn hard as well, and the multiplayer while not the most important for the game is also a lot of fun.

geeogree : I did the same thing when Doom 3 was coming out. I played Doom 2 over and over (the best one IMO) and really hoped it would be like that.
If I see a really good sale on Doom 4 or whatever you want to call it, I might pick it up for the single player campaign.

Vanelan : I'm actually torn right now about which one I preferred. I feel like Doom 2 was more puzzle based than Doom was and I felt like that got in the way of the gameplay sometimes. However, Doom 2 had so many more monsters and the mechanics were more complex. I'm in the middle of No Rest for the Living and I'm not even on a high difficulty level and there are tons of monsters to fight. I felt like Hell on Earth had too many puzzles and tricks in order to get through the level and didn't have enough crazy combat.

Still, if I see a sale for Doom4 I'm going to grab it as well.
