So apparently you can rent movies now on Steam. Lionsgate now distributes their movies on the Steam platform, which is a lot like how YouTube movie, which allows you to watch the movie within 30 days as long as you finish it within 48 hours. I think it's lame that you can't buy movies to own, but Lionsgate, as long as a few other production companies now have dozens of blockbuster movies that you can choose from.

I despise the idea of films on Steam. Personally Steam should be for gaming only. With Netflix and everything, you can pretty much watch it anywhere, so why should Steam have a movie streaming service?

Heavymetalgaming: Uhhh steam doesn't have a streaming service. This isn't streaming, this is watching movies on steam, they are completely different. Watching movies on Netflix would never be as good as this because you need to stream the movies there.

There might be a feature later on to stream them, but there would be no way to put it onto your account for a while, so there's no way to stream now. That's why if you want to stream a movie you go to Netflix but if you want to normally watch a movie, you can watch them on steam.

How exactly does this work? If it's not streaming, then you have to download it and play it locally, correct? Seems like it would make piracy a lot easier, unless the download was somehow tied to your specific device and the files can't be transferred or converted.

While I do think being able to rent movies on Steam is an interesting idea, I don't think I'll ever use it because I would prefer to buy the actual movie if I truly liked/enjoyed it. (This way, I can also watch it again with my friends later on.) ^^
