I would like to see emerl and chip (Light Gaia) return in future sonic games. Man, if emerl survived the events of sonic battle, he probably could've went on to been one of the most powerful sonic characters ever. I would't mind seeing chip appear again, either. The powers he demonstrated near the end of sonic unleashed was pretty cool in my opinion. It definitely caught me by surprise.

I would really like to see Metal Sonic make another appearance. He's always been one of my favorite characters, and I feel he's been underused in the more modern releases (from the ones I've seen). I always love the concept of Metal Sonic, similar to how Mecha-Godzilla was created all those decades ago lol. An exact copy in robot form generally turns out as a cool villain in my opinion.

But seriously, if I had to choose, I'd choose maybe the members of the Chaotix, and Omega. Metal Sonic would also be a good character to bring back. And I know this wasn't the question but for characters to return to be playable (I'm excluding Sonic Boom because bleugh), well, I just want Tails and Knuckles to be playable in the future games, and handle like they did in Sonic 3 & Knuckles and the Advance series. I just really like being able to fly in my games :p.

Mighty the Armadillo and Fang the Sniper. I've never played the games they were in but their designs looks pretty sweet. And it'd be interesting to see how they would play out in modern Sonic games.

Also I'd like to see a return of Espio, since he's a pretty interesting character with a nice design to him. I kinda hope Blaze starts becoming featured in games too, she was one of the best characters to play as in Sonic 06 and I probably like her the most out of any Sonic character.

Mighty the Armadillo is one I would like to see back because in my opinion Sega has pretty much forgotten of his existence. I mean heck he wasn't even in Sonic Generations for crying out loud. Also he is due for one as well since the last game he was in was the first game he was in, Knuckles Chaotix for the Sega 32x.

I actually liked the giant evil octopus from Shadow The Hedgehog okay so I don't know his name, but that game was all over the place, can you blame me?
The best part of that game was the moral choices, and I think he'd fit well in another game with a similar concept.
