A disability is an impairment that can dampen the way you function in society. It can be physical, cognitive, emotional, or
developmental, and can profoundly affect your life and experiences. It can be present from birth or just gained somehow. It is a contested concept, and can have different meanings, such as medical attribution or prevalent social impairment. I’m discussing this topic because it has been a part of my life as long as I could possibly remember. I was granted a learning disability years ago and it impaired my ability to fully understand arithmetic calculations required in everyday life. I would like to know if the despair of having a handicap dehumanizes you. If you don’t have one, have you known another with a disability?

Were you ever diagnosed in your youth? (For example, when I was 7 or 8, I was diagnosed with a learning disability called Dyscalculia. Here is an explanation.)               https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyscalculia

If so, what was it for? Your thoughts are quite invaluable. Thanks for your positive feedback.

I was diagnosed with a bunch of mental things and had to love taking medicine and stuff for about 8 years before I was told that the doctors were wrong and that there was nothing wrong with me. It sucked that they were pretty much making me do all these things for no reason.

Is AD/HD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.) one of them? If so, I've recently just found out. I wasn't really concerned, because I didn't know what it was or what it did, until my doctor told me.

If you don't know what it is here's a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attention_deficit_hyperactivity_disorder

Clearly, the name says it all, but you could click the link.

It has more of an affect on adults, but the youth aren't really. It mainly just makes you hyperactive and you get distracted easily. (I should look outside my window for awhile.)

I didn't really take medication for my disorder, because I was taught to love myself as I got older and because of that, you should love yourself no matter what disability or disorder you have.

Alright, enjoy your day, everyone!

I was diagnosed with depression in 2007 (my senior year of high school) and generalized anxiety disorder more recently. Even after trying pretty much every kind of anti-depressant and counseling, it hasn't improved. And it's definitely a disability; there's no way I'd be able to work full time this way. One could argue that I don't even work part time, considering how little I manage to do.

I was diagnosed with depression as a child. I never really took medication or anything because I managed just fine without. Maybe this is only because I've hit rock bottom and made my way back, but I'm currently happier than ever in a general sense.

Yep with a lot of health issues. Lemma paste here what they are

Dextrocardia
Ciliary Dyskinesia
Hypopituitarism
Microctia
Development Delay

if you want Google them up I suggest so you can understand the means. If you want to know more ask me in pm and I would be more than happy to say more about my conditions I was diagnosed with the day I was born.

I was diagnosed with Chron's disease several years ago. Basically, it's a reaction of the body's immune system to the microbial antigens within the gastrointestinal tract, which results in a chronic inflammatory disorder.

In my case, it happened in my long intestine, which meant that my body couldn't absorb the nutrients of any food I ate, resulting in a massive and potentially dangerous weight loss, as well as feeling incredibly tired for not having energy. Coupled with the fact that I was in a troublesome age and environment and also that the doctors constantly gave out incorrect diagnostics, it almost drove me to suicide.

I've also gone through several treatments. To reduce the inflammation, I resorted to a hyper-caloric shake and got rid of any food for two months (ouch). As for medication, first I started with daily pills, then moved on to include several other pills for a small amount of time, then started with vials, first every 8 weeks but eventually reduced to 4 and later on I completely discarded the pills to include a weekly injection.

In this last year, it seems like things are improving.  I've been receiving less medication with positive results, and all signs point to returning to the daily pills in less than a year. I still see reports of many people having a tough time, which makes me feel incredibly lucky for being able to do a normal life.  and for that reason I enjoy life even more.

Yes, When I was three, I was diagnosed with a form of MD called Hypotonia. It affects your arm and leg muscles. Then when I was five, I was hospitalized for ITP and had to get my spleen removed or I would die. Then at 12-13 I was diagnosed with migraines (still have them)

Most people in the community already know that I have Asperger's Syndrome, I'm just very high functioning. I was diagnosed with it when I was 6. It would have been earlier but the dumb doctors before 2006 said I was fine. :/

Yes, When I was just 3 months old I was diagnosed with Asthma. At the age of 4 it was speculated I had some form of Autism. However that was just speculation. It would be confirmed when I was 23 years old. I have high functioning Autism

When I was 18, despite never smoking my parents never smoked or being exposed to it. I was diagnosed with COPD non smokers. My version of COPD is a rare auto-immune disease due to not having Alpha-Beta 1 gene.

When I was 24 I was diagnosed with a non cancerous brain tumor. But thankfully I had that removed.

Despite my health issues, I try to exercise, lift weights and other things. But sometimes it makes me sick and I have to rely on my Christian faith to get me through it

I haven't been diagnosed with anything actually so that's good I guess. Though I can't remember ever actually getting tested/evaluated for anything in the first place so that's also not saying much in terms of my health.

Not to my recollection. The most lethal thing I've been diagnosed with is pneumonia which is basically a lot of phlegm in your lungs causes by inflammation which causes you to cough a lot. Apparently if it goes on for too long without treatment you can die so there's that. After taking some awful tasting medicine for like 12 days I didn't have it anymore.

I haven't been diagnosed with anything that lasts for a long time, but part of me suspects that I may have high functioning autism (basically Asperger's). I usually have problems with social interactions. Then again I've also been depressed rather often so that may be why my social interaction skills aren't the best. I am improving though xp.

I've stayed far away from doctors most of my life for no particular reason, so I haven't been diagnosed with anything.

Like, I had pinkeye once, but that doesn't count at all. In any case no I haven't.

I have been diagnosed with a few things in my life, but I refused to seek counselling or accept health for all but one of them.

In 2012, I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. The tumour grew to be 7 inches long and was about the size of my fist. Due to the rarity of the specific type of tumour in children my age, they sent it to multiple different research facilities to properly understand the tumour. For clarification: 3 other kids had the tumour I had in documented history. All 3 died in 6 months. I'm on my 3rd year of finishing Chemotherapy.

In 2013, shortly after finishing my chemotherapy, I was diagnosed with depression. It was visible and easy to tell without the physical attributes. My school, my doctors, my GP, my parents. All of them tried getting me to go to counselling, but I refused to speak to anyone, because I hate psychiatrists. Why? Because they don't do their job. They try to drag it out as long as possible so they're paid more, and it sickens me how someone in a profession of helping others would endanger them for monetary gain.

In 2015, I showed symptoms of Schizophrenia to my doctor, so they had me diagnosed and turns out I am schizophrenic. But, again, I refused all treatment, because, hell, I overcame my depression, I can over come this right? (That is wrong, btw, depression and Schizo are very very different, but I still haven't accepted help)

Before I was 10, I was diagnosed with quite a few things. And it all turned out to be mis-diagnosis's.
Now, I have severe PTSD, chronic depression, and MD. I think there is something else, but I can't remember.

Physically, I have kyphosis, 2 deteriorated knees, Degenerative Disc Disease, and at least 1 herniated disc in my lower spine.

I've never been diagnosed with anything at all because, like a few prior posters who've replied here, I never go to the doctor for anything. There's a whole list of abnormal stuff that I should probably have checked out, but I wouldn't know who to go to. The local clinics are just pill pushers, the hospital 11 miles one way wouldn't pass for a second rate veterenarian anywhere else and the other hospital 16 miles the other way actually almost killed a distant relative by getting the wires backwards when he had a pace maker put in. We also don't have much money or any insurance, so I'll just accept them as personal quirks until something serious pops up.
I've never been diagnosed with anything at all because, like a few prior posters who've replied here, I never go to the doctor for anything.
