What's the worst sickness you ever had?

Everybody gets a cold every now and then, but sometimes those colds last a bit longer than you would have hoped for, or sometimes you might catch something that you would have never wanted, but it happens, and this is the place to share your stories. Was there a time where you had to miss a week of school because of how sick you were? Did you have a bad case of the flu?

My worst sickness was a case of Salmonella which I caught last semester after eating a spinach sandwich. Luckily the day after I ate it, I read articles on a spinach recall, so when I started getting symptoms two days later I knew what it was. Having Salmonella was not fun, its a pretty bad case of food poisoning and I felt terrible for a week.

What's your story?

My worst sickness would have to be food poisoning I got from eating a burger my dad undercooked. It caused me to vomit everything in my stomach until I was empty, and even after that I kept going till I vomited bile.

Luckily it was only for one day, but jeez that was horrible. It was so horrible I felt amazing the next day both physically and emotionally.

Mine....would be a virus this was years a go when a bad flu of that went around. Back then I was allowed to go out and without any trouble. I somehow caught this on the bus. Its funny thought because usually I am careful not to pick up anything from people. And not only that many people somehow caught that flu so I wasn't allowed to be near anyone. The docs or the nurses that tended to me wore masks for a reason. I was so ill from that I had to stay in the hospital for weeks on taking this special antidote I didn't want too. But if I didn't I would have died. On the news the next day there was a young boy around my age and he died from that. I immediately started crying because of how sad it was...

I've had others like bugs or food poisoning. The food poisoning wasn't that bad but there was one bug that came in second with the worst sickness. This happened years ago around Christmas time. The day for some reason my energy was zapped and around that time we had to go to church it was the 31 of Dec. So we went to my house from my cousins to get ready when I tried to get upstairs my feet were really heavy and slow I didn't know what was going on. I had my bath and then I told my mum I felt unwell. Before you know it both of my eye sights were gone even though I was warning my glasses. We went to the car I didn't think of it. I was blind...blind I tell you good thing no cars came during the night. So anyways I got to church and I told my mum something else that I was really sick. And of course she suspected I missed one of my medications which wasn't true.

like during the service I slept and as I slept I didn't know my eye sight was getting better. I woke up to find church was finish. My eye sight I saw was back. But then I went blind again. The pastors wife said hi to my mum and then me when she heard I wasn't well she asked how I was doing. I explained the problem and she prayed for me. So as soon as we got home. My mum asked me what the heck was going on. I explained to her, and I said I didn't miss any of my medications during the holiday. That I was blind I couldn't see everything was blurry. She told me I caught some sort of a bug that I should sleep I said I am going to sleep in the livingroom since well you know I wouldn't be able to go to my room and all. She said fine. I told her things will be fine tomorrow. That when I slept at church my eye sight got better. So the next day I felt better again! But before you know it I started vomiting and things just got from bad to worse as my mum tried to nurse me back to health herself. When I start to vomit that's it. Things go very bad for me once I start I can't stop. I had to go to the hospital to get treated from then. :/

My WORST sickness was when i was 3 years old. I got a sort of rare virus-like disease which made me throw up everything i eat or drink, making me feel very sick. I got this somewhere in July 2003, and two weeks later, i got recovered from it. Sadly, it seemed that i wasn't recovered completely, and the virus came back, almost killing me. My mom was sitting next to my bed while i was suffering and dying.

You would say i'm a ghost, but thanks to my mom, i'm still alive! She gave me the love i needed to stay alive. I'm really thankful to her. But that morning i woke up while i was dying the night before that proved i was healed.

Also, this virus has a name, though i forgot what it was called.

Man, i should write a book with this information!

Thee was this one time, it was the last day of Middle School, and I couldn't stop throwing up. I was throwing up every 10-20 minutes. I even threw up in the grass just before entering the hospital. Then they wanted a urine sample, but I always use the bathroom before leaving my house. So, they asked me to drink a lot of water. So, I did... But then threw it all up, like, 5 minutes later. They had to draw blood with the largest needle I've ever seen, and they wanted me to squeeze a stress ball to get the blood pumping. The needle was so large, it was just constant pain for about 10 minutes. It was pretty bad. I don't even know what I had. I think it only lasted that day... And I don't even remember getting any medicine for it... Hm. XD

There was another time that I had a bad cough. I was coughing so much, and so hard that my head, back, chest, nose, eyes, ears, and throat were all in pain constantly. I was eating cough drops like candy (They do taste pretty good. XD), but it wasn't really helping. That went on for a few days... Still don't know what was either. XD

I think my current sickness might make a run for the top spot for me. The first two days were ok, but the 3rd day today everything took a turn for the worse, different levels of nausea, barely coordinated, and enough sweating to last me a lifetime, this sucks.

Technically, being dope sick was the worst I've ever felt, but I'm not sure that counts here
As far as actual illness goes, as a kid from about 8 - 14 I would get strep throat once every fall (apparently I'm a carrier of the illness). When I would get sick from it, my throat felt fine the entire time, but it would give me headaches that felt like my skull was being crushed in a vice grip. The pain was unbearable to the point that I had to go to the hospital a few different years and was put on a morphine drip. It helped a lot but still hurt like crazy. Still to this day none of the doctors could explain why it affected me like that.

I guess now my current sickness is officially my worst, I haven't thrown up yet which is a good sign but its been about 5 days now and I still have various pains all over my body now thanks to it, and I'm always burning up and coughing. I'm still able to do things but I feel like my body will cave in on itself at any given moment and the pills in taking are for like 6 more days so I'm not sure how long this can last.

I would say the chicken pox. That was a week and a half to two weeks of misery. I have had the flu before, but I usually shook it off in a few days.

Oldschool777 : Oh boy, when I was young, I knew about the chicken pox and was always terrified that I would get them, probably even be way more dramatic about what they were than I should have been because I was soooo scares of getting then, and I'm glad I didn't, that's probably one of the few things worse than Salmonella that go away.

zanderlex : For me, it would undoubtedly have to be tonsillitis. And I thought having the flu was bad enough. For days I endured pain that was nearly too much for me to bear, and my mouth was very dry from not drinking any water. But perhaps, the worst part was not being able to get any treatment for it. My mom just could't afford it. I pray to god that I will never have to go through that nightmare ever again.

Final Weapon : That's another thing im lucky that I never head to deal with, but the thought of having to have it crossed ny mind many times. There were plenty of times where I had pain in my mouth and people would say its either by tonsils or wisdom teeth and both thoughts terrified me. I have an idea of what it feels like with tonsilitis and the way ny throat felt during this sickness is a bit like that but nowhere near as bad as it can be, so tonislitis SUCKS.

You do know that you must be vigilant as an adult getting it right? Chicken Pox can be worse in an adult that never had it. You may want to get the vaccine to be safe. But talk to your doctor first,I am not a doctor.

zanderlex :   Not sure if Gout counts as a sickness, but soon after I turned 30 years old, I had my first case.  It is debilitating in the way that you cannot walk period.  It is a kidney disorder that crystallizes in your joints and is caused by diet mostly.  For the most part, it happens in your right foot and swells your big toe to the size of a small potato, though I have had it in my left foot as well, and equally painful.  It's been so bad that I cannot stand at all and have to crawl on my hands and knees to get to the bathroom or get food and drink.  Even a sock is killer on my foot sometimes.  If anyone else suffers from this, black cherry juice and celery are wonderful agents in fighting the inflammation.

Heat stroke as a child. I couldn't walk, eat or otherwise function due to the fever for about 12 hours. Thankfully it did not require a hospital visit. Wear a hat and sunscreen, the sun is more dangerous than you might assume!

Strep throat as an adult. I couldn't swallow anything including water due to the painful swelling of my tonsils. I was really dehydrated. That was the first time I ever visited the hospital (since being born).

Thankfully the sickest I've ever been was fixed with a double doses of antibiotics, so I consider myself very lucky.

I'm actually fairly fortunate. While I get a sinus infection about once a year, as I think the worst I've ever had was just this side of laryngitis a few months back. My voice was almost totally gone and it hurt even to breathe. I don't think it ever fully developed though, because it went back to a regular old sore throat after about a day and a half. Hot tea and spearmint gum are magical.

The worst sickness I had was when I had a brain tumor. Thankfully it was not cancer but it was rapidly growing and I had to have it removed because the surgeon said if he didn't get it, it would kill me. It really made me sick. I lost vision, which I have regained some of it back. But it made me real tired and lethargic a lot. I also had pain all throughout my bodies. There was some days were I could not walk. In addition, I would also have numbness in my hands and legs. It was not fun at all. It also caused me to have a blackout which scared me as I thought I had a stroke at first.

When I was 16 I also had an episode of Myocarditis (Inflammation of the Heart Muscle). That is a serious illness as it can be fatal and if you survive people usually have scared hearts. I was so sick, at first they thought I was having a heart attack. I had pain in my left arm and my chest hurt. But what I remember was I was so dizzy that I could not stand up. I also had a fever of 104.5 that in the ICU unit they would have to put wet cold wash clothes on my heard.

I'm a Christian so I give God credit that he guided the surgeon's hands. Also my heart is not scared which some doctors called it remarkable that I didn't have serious complications. Again I give glory to God
