So, this thread is a discussion thread for the new season of Fear the Walking Dead. I haven't watched it yet but I wanted to get the thread made in case anyone wanted to discuss the show tonight after they watch it.

The first season was pretty good but not amazing. I'm really hoping that the 2nd season builds on the first and improves.

I actually haven't watched the episode. I probably will within a day or 2 though. I'm hoping the 2nd season will be a bit more of an imporvement. I am really excited!

Episode 1

So the end of the last season saw the group get to the boat that the rich guy had. Not sure what they are going to do after that but that is where the season ended.

I'm not sure why they are trying to move everyone out at night. That seems foolish. There must be something urging them on and I imagine it has to do with the explosions that are happening. Sounds like the city is falling apart right now. Nice, walkers in the house and on the beach. I now understand the urgency. They need to leave badly! Chris better get off his butt and start helping. They are getting surrounded pretty quickly. I seem to remember them understanding how to kill walkers before the season ended last time. Oh good, Nick is back. Travis, Chris and Madison need to get on the boat ASAP. Ooooh, walker in the water. Nice! Using the motor to cut up the walkers face. That was sweet. We need more of that stuff!

Looks like they all got away safely and are going to be able to get to the boat. Still not sure why they brought Chris's mom but okay. Looks like Ofelia and Daniel Salazar are on the boat already. I'm naming them a lot so I remember who they all are. Alicia is on the boat too already. That's all of them that survived last season I think. Oh, and Victor Strand. Not sure if I mentioned him yet. That's a pretty good sized boat... not sure if it's quite big enough for all of them to be very comfortable but it'll be enough room I think. Having a boat seems really useful in this sort of a situation. That was a good intro to the second season. Some good action and suspense and what not.

Yeah, that's a nice boat. As long as they don't make really dumb decisions (which no doubt will happen) then they will be able to survive. And it's started already. An entire boat full of people needed help. This is going to be an issue. I think Strand is right about not helping them. Taking that many people on is going to ruin them. They can't save everyone. If they want to survive they can't save more people right now. As hard as that would be to do it's the only choice they have.

Coast guard radio is saying they can't save anyone which makes sense. They're probably half dead and what they had was used by the military by now.

Dump the body! Chris doesn't need to sit and stare at the body. And Travis is right. They can't help everyone especially if that can't help themselves. They barely got out alive as it is so taking on others is a mistake.

Alicia is going to talk to someone on the radio. I wonder who this guy is and whether or not they are going to someone get incorporated into the group.

Creepy Chris looking at his dead mother some more. Move on dude! Dump the body and move on. Now he's kissing the dead body on the forehead. She's dead. Stop touching her! She's not going to be fresh for much longer. She's going to start stinking within 24 hours. At least he's come out of the cabin. Fishing is smart. The size of fish you could catch out in the ocean would feed them for a long time. Daniel is smart to be fishing. Ewww, it looks like he caught an eel.

Nick helping Ofelia. That's interesting. I wonder if anything comes of that.

Alicia is talking to the random guy on the radio. Getting to know each other but clearly not trusting each other. Very human moment. I liked that.

Interesting moment between Daniel and Travis. Each probably envies the other for what they had to do in order to survive. Couldn't be easy to deal with.

Madison was looking around with the binoculars. I wonder what she saw. Where is Strand.... it's a bit of a worry to not see him driving the boat. I guess he is driving from up top. I was confused about the depth conversation until they mentioned the body. It should be time to dump the body.

Alicia still talking to that guy. Talking about options to escape. Not sure where they are going to end up.

Sounds like Madison and Daniel don't trust Strand. I don't blame them honestly. I wonder what Strand is up to as well.

Alicia talking to the guy again. I want a name so I can stop referring to him as the radio guy.

Oh good, they are finally dumping the body. Travis is giving a bit of a eulogy which is nice. Another humanizing moment for the show. It's a tough line between retaining your humanity and being tough enough to survive. I feel like that is going to be a big theme for this show. I don't see this show being as bloody as The Walking Dead is/was. I kind of hope it is more character driven. Whoa! Chris just dumped the body out of nowhere. I guess that is what it would take to dump your mother into the ocean.

Whoa, Chris just punched Travis in the face. He's not very strong cause it didn't seem to do much to Travis.

Interesting. Things are getting tense now. Alicia is letting everyone know about Jack and his brother and Strand is pissed. It is his boat and he doesn't want people to screw up their chances at survival. Giving out information to people they don't know is a chance at screwing up. Strand and Nick are now talking about how the boat needs to run and how people all need to contribute. It makes sense given the circumstances.

Madison and Chris are talking now. Madison just told Chris that if Travis hadn't shot Chris's mom that she would have. That's pretty heavy. Still, it's true. I'd put a bullet in someone head rather than let them turn.

Interesting music only scene with the food. At least Chris came up out of his room. Oh crap, I think he just jumped into the water. And Nick dove in after him. Like I said, bad decisions! I wonder what is with the smoke/mist that you can see. That worries me a bit.

Alicia is talking to Jack again. Telling him they can't come get him. Uh oh. "I'll see you soon". I think that means that they've found the yacht. This is a strange part of the episode. I'm confused as to what I'm seeing. Holy crap! That's a walker in the water! It looks like a whole bunch of them are out in the water. It also looks like the boat was outside of the yacht when it was inside before this scene happened. I doubt most people would have noticed that. Well, Chris is safe at least. Nick just swam into the overturned boat. That just seems like a terrible idea. No Travis! Fool! Yeah, a walker in the boat! Don't be so surprised!

Strand just noticed something. I'm guessing it is another boat of some sort. This could be dangerous. I'm really hoping it's just Jack but they didn't sound like they could travel anymore. And that's the episode end!

I thought this was a good first episode for season 2. Still not at the level of Walking Dead but still enjoyable for sure. And I'm looking forward to what happens next which is what you want from a show like this.

Lets be honest the walking dead is going to be hard to match.  So I'm trying to look at fear the walking dead as a different show.  With that in mind I haven't had a No way or a omg moment watching this show.  The bar was sit so high that they have no where to go but down. So far I see no character that I care about yet. If the show doesn't find some heart soon there will be no season 3.

Episode 2

Oh yeah! Whoever shot up the other boat is still coming. They haven’t addressed that yet! It’ll be interesting to see what happens because of that because these guys have no weapons currently. Well, they have a few but nothing major.

Uh, kids playing on the beach and there is a zombie down there. I’m confused and worried. I wonder what they are looking for and if these kids have any idea that there are now multiple zombies coming. They are collecting shells. Not even something useful! Run away you dumb kids. Those are zombies! Lame! A fence. Those kids don’t see very scared though and that is strange too. I love the way it jumps from the video to the flashing title. Gets me nearly every time.

The yacht log book they found apparently says than San Diego is already gone. That’s not a good sign since that was their first place to stop. They are going to have more luck hitting a small port than going for a large city. Also, looks like there is someone clearly following them and they’ve got a powerful gun capable of sinking a boat in the manner that they did. Sounds like they are going to the wildlife preserve. A good chance there aren’t any people there or not many and it looks like it is an island rather than connected to the mainland.

Travis trying to talk to Chris and Chris just blew him off. Angry teenager is angry.

It is night time now and Madison is seeing something in the distance. A light turning on and off. Daniel and Ofelia are sticking around to keep Strand at the dock I imagine. The rest of the group is going on shore to see what they can see. Some sort of building or complex but it’s hard to make out in the dark. Travis is announcing himself. Not sure if this is a good or bad idea. It’s the kids, and an adult. I was worried it was just kids at first. You have nothing to fear from us except we outnumber you quite readily and could take anything we wanted.

The guy they ran into is giving up his books pretty freely. Not much use anymore except to beat boredom. This ranger is getting updates from various stations and now getting a lack of updates. He seems convinced that basically the entire west half of the country is dead.

Madison and this mom are getting to know each other. Not sure where this is going to go. The oldest son showed up. His name is Seth and he has a rifle over his shoulder. Looks like a fairly long range type weapon.

Daniel and Ofelia are still on the boat. Talking about what to do next. Whether or not to stay or go on to another location. Daniel is apologizing for the world that his daughter is suddenly in and she says it is helping her to understand him better.

All the kids playing together along with the younger members of the group. Nick is trying to help out Chris but Chris seems to be wanting to be alone. The dolls all have red dots in their heads. Sounds like all the people this kid knew are dead now. Shot in the head. That’s heavy for a kid that age to deal with.

Strand and Daniel – sitting around waiting for the group to come back. Daniel is suggesting that Stand is going to leave them and Strand argues that if he didn’t want this group with him he would have left them behind.

Travis and the Ranger are talking together. The Ranger thinks this whole event is nature making up for humanity getting too large. Like nature is keeping the Earth safe from whatever the worst thing is at the time. They might be right but it’s hard to know for sure.

Madison and Travis just recapped everything that just happened. Thanks lazy writers.

Nick and Alicia are both awake and chatting. Talking about the kids that are growing up in this new world and how crazy it will be compared to what they had to deal with. End times or is it? This would be a crazy thing to go through. It would make you second guess a lot about your life and your faith.

It’s morning now and Nick is wandering around on the dock. He sees Seth going somewhere so they are headed out together. Down to the beach to kill zombies that get stuck on the fence. Makes sense that they have to do that but that’s got to be tough to do right now. It’s still early enough that just ending zombies over and over again seems difficult. Not like the Walking Dead where they just do it without really thinking about it. These are people who just died within the last few days/weeks. Not random zombies 100’s of miles from home that they didn’t and will never know. Travis found Chris and now they are having a confrontation. Chris is still being the super angry teenager. To be fair Chris didn’t get to say goodbye.

Travis and the other Dad are talking about killing the zombies at the fence. Travis is still coming to grips with the new life while the new dad is pretty much done with the way things are and have accepted it. Looks like there is some sort of resort nearby that they could go visit. With enough weapons they could probably take that place and make use of it. Travis seems to think this guy has given up while the Dad thinks he is making the best of the situation and surviving.

Back to Alicia wandering around with headphones in. That seems like a terrible idea even if there aren’t any walkers around. You never know if you might run into some and not hearing them coming would be a big problem. She wasn’t really doing much of anything. And Nick is going searching for more drugs. Looks like he hasn’t really changed completely. And digging through people’s stuff. How rude! Oh, he just found something! Found some yellow pills or something. He got caught by the little girl and that might be the best thing that could happen.

Daniel and Strand again. Strand noticed that Daniel doesn’t leave him alone. Also, seems like whatever boat was following them is out of range. The moms are together again. Working in the little garden they’ve made. Oh, she has MS. That explains a lot. This family is going to be left behind.

Travis and Madison are now arguing about taking the 2 little kids. I wouldn’t do it personally. The family is alive and doing just fine. No need to take them. It might be harsh but those kids aren’t safer on the boat than where they are now. I would argue they are safer on land than on the boat.

Daniel is digging through stuff trying to find secrets and he appears to have found something. Not sure what he was looking for but he just found a semi-automatic weapon. Looks like Strand has plans that he wasn’t telling anyone about. Strand is on the radio/phone with someone secretly. We still don’t know who or why but that is a big worry. Would he leave everyone behind or sacrifice people in order to accomplish that. Nick thinks the dad is going to kill his family. There is too much going on.

Oh dear. This is going to get messy. The Dad just showed up and the mom is trying to give the kids away to the group on the boat. It’s going to get messy. I can see it getting really messy. WTF! That little girl just turned! Yup. This just got crazy. They need to get away as quickly as possible. Is everyone on the boat now? I think they are. Seth just caught up with them. He’s got his rifle and this is going to get messy if they don’t let him go. Go Seth. Take your brother to his death. Time to leave! This is why you don’t try and save people. They are either going to get killed or they are going to have to kill their whole family that has turned. I don’t see how those 2 are going to survive though. And that’s the end of the episode.

I’m guessing this show is supposed to have a different feel to it because by now in the Walking Dead there was a lot more action and a lot more death. This one isn’t that frantic or crazy. Not sure if that is good or bad but it is different. I am enjoying it but I hope they get more action as the season goes on.


rebelyell : I don't think they are trying to "match" it. It is going to have a different feel and atmosphere to it than Walking Dead had. I agree though, it needs to get better before this season ends or it is not goign to last much longer.

Episode 3

What the heck is going on? Who are these people? Are they the life raft that got passed by? Whoa. They just knocked that guy back into the water! I would start paddling! Ouch on the face! I'm so confused about who these people are and what they are doing.

Strand is trying to contact the mystery person he's been talking to. Not sure what is going on there but I hope it resolves in this episode.

Travis and Madison now. Neither is sleeping.... what was that sound? Uhm.... they are going to get interrupted.... what is that sound??? Sounds like something is blocking an water intake for the engine. At least they have scuba gear for him to use. Of course they have scuba gear. Why wouldn't they? It was the dude from the life raft....

And they cut to Travis clearing some sort of filter out. Apparently he is going to fix the boat. They might run out of water if the water intake isn't fixed and the filtration working again. This might be how they get them off the boat eventually.

Ofelia apparently is still hurt and possibly has an infection in her shoulder. Sounds like she is out of anti-biotics and might be sick.

Looks like there is something to get on the coast. Luggage and what not washed up on shore. They are going to be going for whatever they can get and come back. There won't be food but there will be a lot of extra clothes and what not they can get. I can only imagine how much underwear they have and that can not be comfortable to be in.

Hrm, Daniel is dropping hints to Madison about Mexico and what Strand is up to. Sounds like Madison is expected to ask about the Mexico destination. I'm interested in it too!

And they are off to the coast. Daniel and the "kids" all went. Chunk of an airplane went down here. There might be food to get from there. Nothing great but something at least.

Travis is going back under the water. Not sure if he is clearing the guy out now or what but I don't like the groups being separated like this. Seems like something is going to happen while Travis is down there. Chris is wandering off. Something is going to happen to him....

I kind of like that they aren't showing what is going on with Travis. Just showing the bubbles and blood but not the action. Ooooh, knife in the face. Poor guy.

What is Chris doing? There's more of the plane! This is a terrible idea to do alone. There are likely going to be people stuck in seats still on that plane. At least he picked up some kind of weapon even if it isn't going to be very effective. Such a stupid idea!!!!!You can't see anything in there and depending on how the plane is sitting the weight could move the plane into a roll. There are a couple of them now! Yeah, this is what I expected. It's about killing a few of them. HOLY CRAP! That guy is alive!

Madison and Strand are having the conversation about Mexico. Strand came clean about where they are going and Madison basically told him what will happen if Strand doesn't bring them all along.

Daniel just realized he can't see Chris. This is going to get interesting. Chris is going to try and save this guy but there is no point. The guys back is broken. He's dead weight and is going to die. There is no saving someone in that situation. Now he is face to face with the same decision his Dad had. Maybe now he'll understand what it took for Travis. That's rough though. It's mercy to put someone like this out of their misery but it can't be hard to end a life like that.

That is Alex from the boat! And here come walkers! They need to find Chris and get away from there ASAP. I knew something was going to happen. Ewww, the zombie eating the crabs that are eating it. That's nasty. Of course! That guy seems too fresh to be a zombie.... still. Glad he survived. Alicia found Chris at least. They should be able to get back. Ooooh, gunshot. That's just going to draw them in. At least everyone is coming together. Except for Nick. That Alex girl is useful at least. They are not going to be able to survive this for long though. They need to go on to the boat and lead the walkders away. Whoa! Nick is COVERED in blood! Interesting. He just learned how to be safe around them! Covered in their blood he is safe. That is going to come in handy later. I hope it is like 10 episodes from now when it comes in handy because using it 2 episodes from now would be lame. At least they are at the boat and getting away. That was pretty fun and exciting. Seeing Nick covered in blood was crazy.

They are going to tow the raft. That's pretty cold. Better than nothing but that is rough. I'd be pissed if I were Alex. There isn't much else to do though. If Strand won't allow it though it's only going to cause problems. At least they have a small chance of surviving this way.

Wow, Ofelia barely reacted to Nick being covered in blood. I'd be a little more shocked by that if I were her. Strand just cut the rope! That was cold blooded. Part of me is upset by that and part of me is not surprised at all. I don't think I could do it myself but I understand why Strand did it.

This episode made me enjoy the show more for sure. It's becoming more interesting again.

 Season has been better than I expected, I'm just glad they didn't spend the whole season on that damn boat.

Annoyed by the mid season finale/ 2 month break until the second half but oh wells, that's just TWD for ya I guess

The break might be annoying but I think the 2nd half of this season runs up until the start of the next season of Walking Dead so it bridges that gap pretty well.

I did feel like overall the 2nd season was better than the first but I was honestly hoping for more City and less boat.... I figured because they started in LA that it would take place in LA a bit more.
