This is something that I've despised for years but never experienced myself until today.

I was trying to purchase something at the store the other day and my card was declined. That is strange because the card never carries a balance for more than a week or 2 and we never get close to the credit limit.

So I checked online to see what pending transactions there were and someone has used my card to buy something from x-box online. Not sure what it was because the description was vague but it was clear that it was x-box related. Obviously the charge was flagged because it originated somewhere other than where I live and the charge is being returned. Not sure if the fraud department will be able to track down who did this or if Microsoft will be involved but it seems like a stupid thing to do.

Either way this has been a huge waste of time and inconvenience. Thankfully it won't cost me anything but it does really bug me. I can't stand people who steal what other people have rightfully earned in order to buy "stuff" for themselves. Get a job, start a business and earn the money yourself. Don't take from other average people in order to get yourself ahead. Pisses me off.

geeogree : That's really upsetting to hear. Sorry about that, that's the worst thing that can happen to have someone so low to do things to other people. Anyways that's good to hear it didn't cost you to charge for anything. Those people need to get a life instead of trying to ruin people who have a family of their own to look after. :/

I am sorry that happened to you. But since the beginning of time, man has always tried to get stuff for nothing. Maybe invest in those credit card sleeves that block RFID.

Oh man that's frustrating. I'll never get why people still got through with CC scams but it is what it is I guess. Hopefully they're able to catch the person.

I hate this, I don't have a credit card myself, but just in the last 2 weeks alone I had some sort of theft happen twice, one with my debit card and one with my paypal account and it sucks. It's a good thing that it was fixed though, even though a lot of stuff might have had to happen to fix it, I never even bothered trying to fix the debit card problem because even though I'm in overdraft now, it would require being in the bank for a couple hours and I don't have that kind of time, and I'm pretty sure most people don't.

That really stinks that happened to you. Thankfully you should be able to get the items returned right away, but nothing worse than being at the store and trying to purchase something and not be able to because of something like this.

I've only had something like that happen to me once, but thankfully it was all resolved within the same day.

Be it theft, scalping items for higher prices, or computer viruses, sometimes I just really question peoples' motivation. In the new electronic age, if you're skilled enough to code and bypass firewalls, etc, then you can probably do some decent work WITH those companies and get paid pretty well. The idea of computer viruses has never made any sense either. You create something that shuts down someone's system. Congrats? Why? What are you getting out of it? Sure someone is miserable, but they don't know who specifically did it, you're just an anonymous person before and after. There's no point. But I guess it's true: Some men just like to watch the world burn.

But I'll have to agree with you, especially for the amount that people usually do in petty theft and whatnot, there's no way that it's worth it. You steal $50. Cool! If you ever get caught you've got a record for $50. So pointless.

So, its been about 2 weeks... has your credit card company reversed these charges?

Have you reported this to local police? There is a possibility there could be charges brought against the person that stole your CC...

Vanelan : the charges were reversed almost right away.

As for the police - the charge against our card was made out of the US so Visa is looking into it and will likely contact the right people regarding the issue.

geeogree : Those Americans... always causing trouble... oh wait...

I've been seeing an increase with this kinda thing at my job and its starting to get out of hand...
Hopefully Visa does file charges and this person is taught a lesson.

geeogree : I agree with you, people shouldn't do something so horrible. I mean you earned that money fair and square and someone taking that from you right from under your nose is just wrong. So yeah I feel your anger Elder Slime, this type of thing shouldn't ever happen.
