This month's High Score competition is for 'Sonic the Hedgehog' for the Sega Master System. You can play it here:

The point of this competition is to get as high of a score as you can.


VIDEO REQUIRED: You must must use the RGR Plugin's built in video recording to record the gameplay and then upload that video to the Vizzed YouTube account.

RULES: You MUST play the game using the RGR Plugin in 'Timetrial Mode' and take a screenshot of your top score from that by pressing F6. To play in 'Timetrial Mode', scroll down the page where the highscores would appear, you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for Highscore', click that. Once you've taken your screenshot, click the link near that one that says 'Click Here to Submit your Score' to submit your score.

You cannot unfairly get points or lives or use a glitch of any sort. If you find something that gives out unlimited points or lives, it will not count.

1st = 50,000 Viz
2nd = 25,000 Viz
3rd = 10,000 Viz

Aw. This seems like it'd be a much better speedrunning competition game, but hey, your choice on that note, and I won't argue with that.

Since I specialize in speed over score, I won't be participating in this one. But I look forward to see the admissions. Hopefully someone even records their run? ^-^

SWTerra : Any time I do a speed run competition for a game that's at least somewhat hard, I literally get no participation. Nothing more discouraging then investing time into hosting competitions that lack participation.

Hey, I know the feeling of that, and honestly, I didn't need an answer for my being upset at it not being speedrun, but I'm glad you did anyways. If this doesn't get at least 5 entrants halfway through, I might consider entering just to go ahead and try my hand at the game itself. I really want to see these competitions actually have more activity.

SWTerra : That happens more often than what you'd think.

Davideo7 : If it happened with a game like Super Mario Land 2, I can only imagine. The competitive side of me just hates using high score as a means of measure in competitions in any game where that isn't the specific purpose. Don't mind my hate, though, just rambling like the competitive gamer I am.

Unfortunate about those speedrun competitions. I always want to participate but my new teaching gig occupies a lot of my time. Once things settle down I'll be participating regularly. Sonic does make a great high score competition though. If this is like the other versions, max points goes to the fastest anyway. Alternatively, you can collect all the coins for a huge bonus as well.

Finally I got the emulators running properly last night. Special thanks to Vanelan helped to find the issue (also thanks to m0ssb3rg935, RDay13 and Juliaisme123, that tried to help in other ways).

Well, so I submitted my first score, picture and video. It's Sonic the Hedgehog (Master System), I hope it's fine for this competition. I played just some stages, then I got 121,500 and quit, with 7 ups left, before the 2nd Boss stage.

I'm happy that I got the 30k bonus in the 1st and 2nd stages. The 2nd one is very hard in my opinion. This 30k bonus is for finishing stages in less than 30 seconds.

Well, I played a lot of Sonic games in Genesis, however I never played a Sonic game in Master System, and this Sonic 1 game is very good. It's way better than I expected. Thanks Sega!

By the way, some days ago my plan was to try the Moonwalker game in speedrun mode, however I don't have enough free time to learn and try that game, so I tried this Sonic game in score mode.
