I was searching Kickstarter today when I found one of the coolest things ever, possibly one of the greatest inventions in history and I had to share it with you guys. It's called the Rocketbook Wave and its pretty much a notebook that you cook.

Let me start from the beginning, it's a specially built notebook with a special pen and app. The first thing is that it uses the cloud and the app so that when you write things, the pages get scanned and saved into the app, but that's not the best part.

I wasn't exaggerating when I said you cook the book, because it's a notebook that you put into the microwave, because the special pen uses ink that erases when the book gets heated. Once you fill up all 80 pages of the notebook, you scan and save all the pages, and then you can clear all the text in a matter of minutes, and the books are designed to last around 10 trips to the microwave or more.

They seem to be pretty cheap for that they do as well because the first reward costs $27 and comes with one book and a pen and I love it. The campaign was already fully funded so they will be selling these and this is definitely something I think is awesome. What are your thoughts?

Whoa... The scanning alone is really cool, but the microwave thing is just awesome. That way you can't accidentally erase everything, but it's not hard to erase things either. I don't think I'd need one of these, but it could be useful for taking and saving notes.

I finally couldn't take the curiosity any more, and so I clicked on this thread.  I had to read the post two or three times, and I'll admit... I don't get this at -all-.  Maybe I'm just not tech savvy enough, but aren't there much easier and better ways to do this?  I mean, aren't there tools and things that you can write on, in which what you write will automatically be uploaded and saved somewhere?  Why should I need to pop my notes into a microwaves instead of just hitting a button to clear my work?

And if the concern is over accidentally deleting stuff, well why not have to confirm that you do indeed want to delete your stuff instead of having a one button kill off?

I don't know what I'm missing here. haha.

Singelli : Because notebooks don't do that silly. It's physically impossible to erase what you write without using a pencil, and this doesn't use a pencil, its a pen. There are no buttons you can press to delete stuff anywhere, this is the first one ever.

I think it would be hard to accidently delete something, you'd have to know that you're putting it into the microwave.

Also this isn't technically tech stuff, its just an awesome notebook.

zanderlex :  But can't you do the same thing with notetaking apps?  Is the appeal here simply that it's a normal notebook and not necessarily a "piece of technology"?  As in paper and not a screen?

I'm pretty sure there are pens that do this scanning thing and upload whatever you write or draw.  So the 'erasable' paper is attractive?  haha... I'm not trying to diss you. I just don't get why this is cool. It seems more weird and like a hassle to me. XD

Singelli : Well what would you personally prefer? A screen or a notebook that does the same thing with better handwriting?

The paper isn't eraseable, just plain old paper, the ink evaporates and the disintegrates.

You're telling me you don't still use notebooks?

Haha! No, I use notebooks if I have a reason to take notes. I actually prefer to have notes and text physically in front of me, versus on a screen.  And I know the paper isn't erasable.... I just meant the removal of content must be attractive.  I wouldn' t know what they are called, but again... I'm positive there are pens that... when you write (onto paper), will scan your work and upload it somewhere.  It's not as though notebooks are expensive, and if you're going to just evaporate all the notes, why not buy a cheaper notebook and toss it when it's full?  It's essentially the same idea, right?

Either way, if you use one of those recording pens, you'll have a backup of your notes, you won't be collecting notebooks and taking up space..... but you'll be spending a lot less money on regular notebooks versus the one you've posted?

Singelli : Nope, there isn't a single notebook that scans your notes so far. Plus, why buy a bunch of books when you can buy 1? If you use it correctly, you can use the book a dozen or more times, and single notebooks here are like $1.79 at the cheapest.

I don't get it. :| It's so much cheaper and infinitely more convenient to download a free notepad app for your phone...plus more efficient and flexible. Write, save, upload, and delete on the go instead of (gosh can I type this without laughing?) Walking to my kitchen to microwave my notebook....

......
..........
..............

No, no I couldn't type it without laughing. I tried so hard though. xD Like Singelli, I mean no hate for anyone that likes it. I mean it's interesting and a novel concept, but it seems like taking something we've simplified so much already and then making it less convenient and simple, not to mention more expensive (can't beat a free app for price). I don't know, it just doesn't appeal to me.

Also, who uses notebooks still? I haven't written in a notebook in probably five years...

Eirinn : Lots of people use notebooks, heck almost all schools still require you to use them, and hand writing on a notebook is much better than if you tried to write it on a screen.

Well right, I didn't actually mean that no one used them, just that there are very few reasons for notebooks these days compared to before. Almost everything ends up digital anyway, plus the main purpose for this thing is to take digital notes like you can do for free on an app.

And there are more practical ways of writing on paper and scanning it to cloud backup. Still, I don't mean to discredit the idea because it is an interesting concept, I just see it as a little pointless. But hey, how many things do we buy everyday even though they're really pointless? If someone likes this idea then they should get one. It seems very impractical, but if you can enjoy it, why not enjoy it?
