The Winter Netplay tournament on Vizzed has had the same format ever since it began 2 years ago but for the first time we're doing a system that isn't the Nintendo NES; we're finally doing the Super NES.

Here's how it works. Everyone starts out in the "winners" bracket and if you lose, you go on to the "losers" bracket and if you lose in the losers bracket, you're out of the tournament. At the very end, the winner of the winners bracket and the winner of the losers bracket play each other but the winner of the losers bracket has to beat the winner of the winners bracket twice (this makes it fair to the user who went undefeated for going undefeated).

Since this is a double elimination tournament, there is no way for me to know how long it'll last since the amount of people who sign up determines how long it'll last but if I were to take a guess, I'd say around 6 weeks. I will allow any number of users to join but we will need an even number. Bye weeks may be handed out to users who do very well if needed in order to balance out the structuring of the brackets.

We'll be playing various multiplayer games for the Super Nintendo. In each weekly matchup, you'll be able to pick which games you want to play against your weekly opponent. Some of those games include Super Mario Kart, Street Fighter II, Ms. Pac-Man, Super Bomberman 5, NBA Jam, Micro Machines 2, and more. The goal is to have 1 or 2 games from each of the major genres and each game should only take between 5-15 minutes (so games like Monopoly are out of the question). If you want to recommend additional games for this tournament, do so in this thread.

Requirements:
-You must live in the United States (unless you have had very little lag problems playing netplay with USA users)
-SNES Netplay must work fine for you
-The RGR Plugin must work fine on your computer
-If you're on the ban list, you cannot enter. To see who is on the ban list, go here:
https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=60334

Prizes:
1st = US $50 or 100,000 Viz
2nd = US $25 or 50,000 Viz
3rd = US $10 or 20,000 Viz
4th = 10,000 Viz
5th = 5,000 Viz

Entry Fee: None
(since this is an elimination type tournament, I see no reason for an entry fee)

Penalty:
If you fail to play 2 or more of your matches, you'll be added to the netplay ban list which means you wont be able to participate in a netplay tournament for at least a year. You'll also have 10,000 Viz deducted from your account.

Signup ends and Tournament begins on Monday, January 11th (or once we get 128 users).

If you want to enter, respond to this thread.

Sign me up! This reminds me of that NES Remix tourney we had a while back. It led to me meeting one of my best friends on the site. I hope that we can relive our memories by having another matchup with each other. It'll be like the old days. But, we won't know until it starts.

deg2000 :

Good luck to the rest of the users signing up.

While I managed to fix my issues with packet loss, I still seem to have issues with netplay that pretty much makes it close to unplayable for me (huge ping spikes, one minute I'm fine, the next one I get 3K ping) and only happens on netplay. I haven't managed to find a solution yet, but I'll see what I can do and will come back to this thread later to let you know if I'm joining.

Nonetheless, I got a few suggestions for games.

- Street Racer. Has some cool modes besides the average racing mode, one of which is pretty much the same concept Rocket League uses, soccer with racecars.

- Hyper V-Ball. Volleyball, however it also has a cool exclusive mode where you play with robots/androids, plus the game is somewhat simple to learn. Would add some variety.

- Columns. Puzzle, has a versus mode. Pretty fun and gets challenging as you progress.

- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Fighting Edition. Pretty cool fighting game and somewhat underrated. Also not overly complicated to learn like some other fighting games.

- Rock'n'Roll Racing. A great isometric racing game, which has simple mechanics along with Versus mode.

- Biker Mice from Mars. Another isometric racing game, but this one's based on the 90's Cartoon and (obviously) has bikes rather than cars. It also has some pretty cool mechanics to it and even though it lacks a Versus mode, the point system can be used to determine who's the winner.

- Looney Tunes B-Ball.
Pretty much what the title says, it's basketball with Looney Tunes characters. The game is really really fun and has many cool aspects, it'd certainly add a different flavor to sports games.

- Killer Instinct. Classic which honestly doesn't needs any explanation. Would definitely be a welcomed addition for fighting game choices.

- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
Same as above.

- Top Gear 3000.
Top Gear is a pretty underrated series of racing games which is not only solid, but also simple to learn. Top Gear 3000 has the best variety and some unique aspects to it which makes a great addition to racing choices.

- Tetris Attack. For those unfamiliar with it, despite having Tetris on it's title the game is not your average Tetris. However it's a great Puzzle game and a pretty fun one nonetheless. Has a Versus mode too.

- Kirby Super Star
. While the SNES didn't have Mario Party games, at least it has Kirby Super Star, which has a variety of different game modes to provide. Plus it's a Kirby game.

- Super Bomberman 4. While 5 is the last Bomberman game for the SNES, some would argue that 4 is a better game overall. If not better, at least more fun to play. Plus I assume It'd be cool to have another option rather than being stuck with only 1 Bomberman game.

That's pretty much it for suggestions, hope everyone enjoys this tournament.

Hope to see you all in 2016. Have a Happy New Year!

mvhupsel : I prefer the original Super Bomberman.
I was going to suggest Street Racer, but I tried it out and it was very buggy and fairly frustrating cuz the controls aren't as defined as Super Mario Kart.

Super Tennis is decent and kinda reminds me of TG Final Match Tennis

Jimmy Connors Pro Tennis Tour is good as well. Much more refined IMO.

I'm excited to see this. I remember good memories of the SNES team tourney and would love to do single matches.

My biggest request is Tetris Attack. Handicap 5 (which it's set to right away, making it normal)  for each player and first to win 2 full matches. It would take 10 minutes at most.

I know NBA Jam was mentioned. It's fast paced and fun but what about a Baseball game? Ken Griffey Jr. was a great baseball game or even Super RBI Baseball. Do 3 innings to see who has the most points and if a tie, make it first one to score afterwards

Just a few suggestions. I can't wait to start this

Unfortunately, SNES netplay is nearly unplayable for me... I would've loved to compete against people in this one, but I can't because of the insane amount of lag netplay seems to give me on most systems... I can't compete in any of the other netplay tournaments other than the Tecmo one because of that.

I would like to join this SNES tournament, sounds like it would be awesome and I tried net play for SNES last night and I didn't really have any issues with it just learning it, so if I could be entered that would be awesome.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
