http://www.techinsider.io/canadian-startup-sells-canned-air-china-2015-12

So someone in the Lake Louise area is bottling air and shipping it to China. Part of me couldn't believe this but at the same time if you can get people to buy bottled water then bottling air and sending it to a place with some of the dirtiest air is possible.

Still, not sure what you are supposed to do with a bottle of air - do you open it in your house in the hopes that it will "clean" the air up or something....

What do you guys think of this...

That's totally impractical because unlike water, the moment you open that bottle, all the air will go all around the world literally and you'll only have pretty much one or two molecules left in the actual place that you open it

And how do you even bottle air? All you have to so is drink a bottle of soda and that's all that's left, it seriously looks like just a pointless thing.

zanderlex : my guess as to the point is that it will be kind of like the oxygen tents you can use where the oxygen levels are elevated. You spend 10 minutes breathing that air and it gives you more energy etc. This might have a similar effect. Put a mask on the bottle and breathe it in and get some "fresh air" into your lungs rather than the smog they usually breathe.

This is a horrible idea. China is polluted, and we must encourage them not to pollute more. However, if the rich population learns of bottled air, then they don't need to stop polluting the air as it won't affect what they breathe. This is not the way to go.

Besides, China has a lot of population. Even if the rich people is only a small percentage, 1% of China's population is +10000 people, so it means a lot of people willing to buy that. It is a big market indeed, but not for ideas like this one.

Unless they decide to buy tons of those bottles and spray them over Beijing's sky, I'm totally against this.

I have no idea how these people are supposed to breathe it in. They are literally buying empty bottles. And I honestly think the production of these bottles is just contributing to the problem more than it helps. The country so full of smog to where they install giant screens to livestream sunsets does NOT need useless production going on.

What is happening there is a tragedy. I have never felt genuinely sad over an environmental problem until I read about the junk happening there. Plus this is straight out of that one scene from Spaceballs...Good job China.

18mlivingston : I really hope that is how it was advertised!

A user of this : I don't think this is China's fault exactly.... I think it is a Canadian guy who is doing it and selling it over there. Do you really blame some of them for paying for something they can't get where they live....

I agree that this does nothing to solve the problem but I don't know if there is a way to solve the problem right now. Not without MASSIVE amounts of spending and I don't see China doing that. They are more likely going to have a population decline that will help reduce their power needs before they actually fix the problem.

You guys bring up great points. China's coal consumption specially over the winter is just insane. It literally kills so many people every year it's sad. I can see why they will desire to buy clean air as it is something that's slowly fading away from them. It's sad really to think of all those families there being sick and dying from pollution. I agree that their government really needs to figure out better ways to decrease pollution but, then again it will all require a lot of money and a lot of time but, is the only way to make the situation better. I read elsewhere some very just careless, thoughtless comments about this, some suggested to let them die the more that die the less people they have to fight for them- that is sad because I don't understand how people can be for one so cruel and two so idiotic. Anything China does to the air and nature as is affects everyone on Earth. There's no way all of that pollution over there won't have any bad effects on us specially considering how much as consumers we depend on China. They are affecting the ozone layer which we can't just go and patch it up. China's lack of action is very irresponsible to everyone not just their population. I love all cultures and I think as inhabitants of the same planet we all have a saying on how it gets treated and I'm quite surprised to not see more aggressive action from the US and other countries to push China to be more environmentally friendly. I mean they catched up very quickly technologically way back in the day and continue to push it further so, they can surely catch up to more responsible ways of living. I think all the nations should really look at the matter more and help come up with solutions to their problem there so that we can all live better and not pay the consequences much later when the problem is much bigger than it is now. As for the people bottling the air, our government and media has put so much emphasis on money that people just try to find ways to make a quick buck and not see much wrong with how it's done or not.

Well, they used to have oxygen bars, bars you can walk into and pay for breathing purified air. I think the only way that scheme will work if the bottle has a gas mask to slip over the face and then you can inhale the contents. Like a user put in the comments,it is Spaceballs-inspired.
China brought this on themselves with their lack of regulations. Now it is filthier than Mexico City's air.

I actually laughed when I read about this and me and a couple friends were joking about how this was EXACTLY like the movie Spaceballs and the "Perri-air" canned air stuff.

Having been to China myself, I'm not surprised. In many of the huge cities there, the air quality is really bad. Although with how many people live in China, we shouldn't be surprised.

It's greed, pure & simple. Some Canadian saw an opportunity to take advantage of someone's misfortune & sadly, there are people who will buy it.

Now I just need to find my can of Perr.... I mean my copy of Spaceballs. Yeah, that's it.
