The Super Nintendo is one of the best retro game consoles there is,some great games were released in it's time and the console was the big rival to the Sega Genesis back in the early 90s,here is my top 10 games that came out on this excellent console

10. Contra III - The Alien Wars

The Contra games on the NES were fun shoot em up action games, but then the SNES came out and we got Contra in 16 bit and it is awesome, the usual thing is just shoot, shoot, shoot and hope you don't get shot, remember it is one hit deaths in the Contra games, the franchise carried on into the Playstation era but this one is the best, with some of the best bosses too

It was also released on the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance, but the SNES version is the one to play

9. The Firemen

Here is a great SNES game that some people might not know about,it is simple and fun,you are two firemen going through each floor of a burning building putting out fires, battling security robots and avoiding dangerous areas,it is easy to get into and not too challenging and one of the most underrated SNES games in my opinion

Seek this one out,it is good fun and i think this inspired the Playstation release,Rosco McQueen

8. Super Mario All Stars

This is a popular game on the SNES,it is basically the 3 Super Mario Bros that were released on the NES and now they are on SNES with upgraded sounds and graphics,so a game to keep you occupied for a while and it also included a bonus 4th game,Super Mario - The Lost Levels, all are great platformers although Super Mario Bros 2 is a little different from the rest but most gamers should know the story behind that game

This later got re-released and included Super Mario World also, but most people i think would have already owned that game

7. Kirby Superstar

8 excellent Kirby games in 1,how could you go wrong, the Kirby games are always fun simple platform adventure games so to get 8 is a real treat.Spring Breeze is probably the best one out of the 8,it is basically a 16 bit version of Kirby's Dream Land, but the other 7 are worth trying out too

Definitely worth playing, and Kirby - The Crystal Shards on Nintendo 64 is also very good

6. Super Mario Kart

And here is a great 3D kart racing game that has many imitators following it,this is a fun game and even better with multiplayer,we get spoiled these days with Mario Kart games on the WiiU and Nintendo DS but here is where it all began and it is still impressive

Mario Kart 64 on Nintendo 64 is probably my favorite in the franchise but this one is still fun to play

So that is my top 10 Super Nintendo games so far, numbers 5 - 1 coming up later, and Super Mario World isn't one of them

I like your list except for The Firemen because I've never played it and don't know if it is any good of a game. However, I understand putting it 9th because I've got a few obscure games that I really enjoy that probably wouldn't make anyone's top 10 list either.

Still, good bottom 5 I think. The other 4 are quality games.

I won't do a whole lot of expounding on my picks because anyone who's asking about top SNES games has played SNES games and knows what I'm talking about.

I don't have an order either.  I'm just throwing games down.

Zelda: A Link to the Past : This is my number one overall.  Great story-telling, great music, wonderful graphics.  It was a mind-blower when it came out.

Gemfire: Gemfire is my favorite strategy game where you develop characters and lands.  It's Game of Thrones before that was a thing, included turn-based combat.

NHL 94: I have still, to this day, never been beaten by a human being at NHL 94 for SNES.

Pilotwings: This was an awesome aircraft simulator, from biplanes, to helicopters, to parachute and more.  I loved this.

Final Fantasy IV (VI Japan): My favorite RPG of all time.

Utopia: Utopita was the SimCity of alien worlds, including invasions.  It was so much fun.

Ken Griffey Jr, Baseball: This had home run derbies, engaging animation, and is one of the best baseball games of all time.  It had the right balance of reality and arcade.

Donkey Kong Country: The music, the scenery, the story... Donkey Kong Country had it all.

F-Zero: F-Zero is better than Super Mario Kart if you're playing alone.  Mario Kart is the party game.  F-Zero is the real racing game.

Actraiser: Overworld sims and side-scrolling.  How good does it get?

Honorable Mention: UN Squadron: UN Squadron is my side-scroller favorite game.  You got aircraft and you could buy weapons.  You're a mercenary.  It gets no better.

Great list! I enjoyed reading it!

It's really hard to narrow my favorite SNES games down to just 10. There are so many great games for the system, I think most people would have a slightly different list.

I look forward to reading your top 5.

Good list. With Super Mario All-Stars and Kirby Super Star in the bottom 5, I'm going to go ahead and predict that Super Mario World and Kirby in Dreamland 3 are going to be in your top five. Also, given that you haven't listed any RPGs yet, I don't think you'll be putting any RPGs in your top 10.

Here's my list:

10: Super Smash TV - a top-down shooter where you clear rooms and collect money and power-ups on a fictional TV game show. This isn't the greatest top-down shooter I've ever played, but it has a special place in my heart because I spent countless hours on it as a kid. The game is challenging, controls are responsive, and the bosses are pretty good.

9: EVO - a neat platform/action RPG where you evolve your creature by eating other creatures to earn "evo points" (experience) and spending the points to upgrade certain aspects of your character. A very cool concept, it doesn't control perfectly, but it's a blast to play and mix and match different animal parts to fit your play style.

8: The Firemen - every kid wants to be a fireman or police officer, and while there were plenty of cop games, there were relatively few firefighting games. This is easily the best firefighting game I've ever played.

7: Do Re Mi Fantasy - a fun Japanese language platform game where you have a magic bubble wand or something like that can trap enemies in bubbles. The platforming is solid and the worlds are imaginative, but some of the level designs are questionable.

6: Final Fantasy 6 - Possibly the best game in the flagship series. This game is tight tight tight.

5: Pocky and Rocky 2 - my favorite top-down shooter of all time. It looks fantastic, the music is enjoyable, the bosses are punishing, and the fact that the second player plays as one of your many possible companions, and not a clone of Pocky makes multiplayer all the more interesting.

4: Super Ghouls N Ghosts - hard as nails and supporting plenty of play styles thanks to its varied weapon selection. I've poured what must be thousands of hours into the SNES and GBA version of the game.

3: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - I'm not sure if this is the best Zelda game, but it's up there. At this point Nintendo had just about perfected the Zelda formula and knew exactly what they wanted to do with it. Side note: Definitely play the sequel, A Link Between Worlds, on the 3DS as well.

2: Super Mario World - superb aesthetic style, perhaps the most memorable across the entirety of the Super Mario Bros. franchise. Memorable music, tight controls, and Yoshi's first appearance. I hadn't actually played this until about a decade ago, but it skyrocketed in my standings past every other Mario game I had played. Everything about it felt right. I could've just as easily made this post Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World since they came bundled on a cartridge, but that felt kind of like cheating. Super Mario All-Stars is also an excellent port of the NES Mario games.

1: Chrono Trigger - We all knew it would come to this. How can there be a top ten SNES list without including perhaps the best RPG of all time? Great story, graphics, and music. The combat mechanics were damn near revelatory. Enemies and allies move around the battlefield? Who'd have thunk? The idea that different abilities affect the battlefield in different patterns and that you can combine your characters' moves depending on their position on the battlefield was a stroke of genius.

So there it is. It's important to note that the SNES has a great number of fantastic games, and there are a great number of other titles which could have easily ended up on the top ten list. While this is the list I chose to post today, if you asked me tomorrow it's possible that I would've posted a completely different list, or put the same games in a different order depending on my mood. Trying to choose the best among over 100 truly outstanding and memorable games is incredibly difficult.

CthulWho :   I completely forgot about Super Smash TV.  That was one of my favorites too, if I had someone to play with.  And E.V.O.:  The Search for Eden is one of my top twenty for sure
