Yeah I agree with you... the storyline wasn't all that great compared to other FF games I have played.

SWTerra : Oh wow. Yeah that one is really annoying to do. Sorry about that. Just try the game again I am sure you'll do better.

Bintsy : Laura all they had to do was make a simple storyline not one that was so complicated for no reason. If they had done that then I bet it would had been the best game overall of all time. '-'

SWTerra : "old" games were all about grinding levels, although Final Fantasy did it better than Dragon Warrior. Final Fantasy III was already more tolerable.

My memory of the first Final Fantasy game I ever played is vague at best. If I recall correctly, It was FF Xll. The game itself was long. Perhaps the longest I'll ever played. Never really beated it either.

janus : that's pretty much true. That's what makes it unique right? Of course since there are other games like final fantasy and different in their own way and such.

The first one I ever played was 8. The game mechanics are kind of cheap (junction system was so easy to exploit), but I loved the story for that game so much. Except for "Chicken-Wuss's constant whining, for those who get the reference. Although I know a lot of people thought he was just a baby, I really liked Squall as well. I could (and still do) empathize with how he felt about the world and people in it. 

Mynamescox44 : I see.....final fantasy 8 was the one final fantasy game I didn't play because I was told certain things would had been too complex for me to understand. So I used to watch my brother play it. When he replay it I would rewatch him it was pretty fun too. Sadly I won't be able to remember that reference.

lordbelial669 : We had to map out the levels because we didn't pay money for the magazines that had the cheats and we didn't have strong internet with all the information back in the day. What little internet we had when we were kids wasn't spent on video games.

janus : That was my second one after I started on Final Fantasy IV. Final Fantasy VI is still the superior of all the games because I was completely blown away by it as a kid of the 90s. The story line, the evil of Kafka, the whole thing was just amazing. That magic of being a kid and experiencing the story will never be found again.

My first was Final Fantasy IV, with Cecil, Kain, and friends. It was a fun game to play and I already understood, through the NES's Dragon Warrior series, notably III and IV, that grinding and leveling were critical to success and having fun. I played Final Fantasy IV with a friend and we both had Super Nintendos so he would take it home for two days and I would take it home for two days and we'd go back and forth leveling and getting better. Any time there was a boss battle or a serious event, we'd save it for when we played together. When it was just me or him, the mission was to map out everything and be ready to play the next important part.

It worked well. We had a blast.

My first one was Final Fantasy 6 (FF3 in the US.) I remember being blown away by the combat,graphics,and such an awesome story and quite possibly one of the most evil villains in FF history,Kefka.

Ghostbear1111 : Yeah that game was good I wouldn't say its my most favourite one but it as still fun to play. I miss the days we actually had to you know as you said map put levels, and other things. Anyways people nowadays use cheats, and all sad how something change....oh yeah I never played dragon warrior series really. I do know it was somewhat similar to dragon quest it is isn't it? ^^

Oldschool777 : Oh I see.....I can see why that game is most liked by the older gen. It is a really great game to play and all since it had its own uniqueness also of how it drew people towards it. I might take the time if, and when I have the time to replay the game again.

Eniitan : The original translation from the Japanese game was Dragon Quest but there was a conflict in North America with a tabletop board game of the same name. It wasn't until 2002 that the trademarked name Dragon Quest was registered by Square Enix. Now you have the name you're used to and it's gotten away from the name I know.

Ghostbear1111 : Oh....I knew of that as in it being in Japanese first, but not of the other details.....thank you for taking the time explaining it. That's why at times I was bit confused when I went to the rgr section, and saw them.

The story still holds up well and in my mind,this is back when Square knew what they were doing. I am convinced when Square-Enix was formed,they lost their way. Maybe I am jaded,but the newer FF titles do not feel like a FF title. It feels more like the hundreds of other MMO's out there.

Oldschool777 : I agree with that. I feel in the recent years ff games have lost its touch from how its supposed to be. Reason why I stopped playing them sadly as it pains me. I go back to playing ones I now such as the rgr ones or on ps1, and ps2 that would be it sadly. Its the only way for me to remember what final fantasy games were like before they got changed to something else. :/ 

I agree that the FF games would have to evolve,I just do not agree with how they evolved. And nothing against MMO's,but FF was always about a great single player game,now it feels like you need a bunch of people to do a run and sometimes we do not want that.

Mine would have to be Final Fantasy III. I found it on a virtual store one day and decided to get it. I was very young at the time, though, so I don't quite remember the experience...

shadic539 : Ah I see I don't remember too much of that game I don't think I played it but did play final fantasy II. So I actually might and if I have the time too go and relive by playing it. Sadly it can't be now I have too much on my plate for me to be able to play it. Also sorry to hear you can't remember it as much do you plan on playing the game again soon?

My first Final Fantasy was Final Fantasy VII, one of my favorite games of all time. Admittedly I haven't played any other main FF games besides this one other one that was on PSP, it's a spinoff but I forget the title of it lol.

Minuano : I see.....I remember that one it wasn't my favourite all time game, but I still know its a good game to play. I see that's understandable not everyone will be able to play the main ones sadly....hmm there is one on the PSP? Is this game good to play?

The first ever final Fantasy I played was Final Fantasy 6 (Commonly known as the Final fantasy 3 cart on the SNES but it's not true in that case)  My brother introduced me to it and recommend it to me,  I think it was around age 10 or 11.     I got all the way up to the ghost station but never continued.


The music was great, the story was cruel, and Figaro was something truly iconic.  My favorite character in FF6 was without a doubt Edgar, because he was that character who was always had a plan, was creative and constantly annoys the girls in the game.    He reminds me of your typical anime guy who does that stuff.



I'm trying to see if I can get into FF7 sometime since there's been a port of that game over to windows PC.
