The savannah is a wonderful, mysterious, and exotic grass lands for the amazing and yet interesting wildlife out there. But some humans are working to do away with it by destroying trees, rocks, termite mounds, and over hunting the animals for food, clothing, or skins. Here are some reasons why we should protect the grassy savannah and the bizarre plants and animals that live there.

The Savannah has some of the most strange and yet most endangered animals. Animals, like the elephant, black rhino, cheetah and giraffe, are being poached for their fur, horns, food, or for no reason, and are just being wasted. The Vietnamese believed that rhino horns can cure illness, like cancer or any other sickness, but they really do not. People also kill elephants for their tusks. People wear the tusks as jewelry. They also use the tusks for the ivory and make art out of them. It is illegal but people still do it and try to lie about killing the elephant or rhino. Some fail, and others completely escape the police. When hunters, illegal traders, and poachers hunt any of those animals, the food chain will be thrown off balance and the Savannah will look like a terrible and awful mess.

The Savannah is home to many other animals as well. Animals like the termites, warthogs, lions, Thomson gazelles, aardwolf, Bat-eared foxes, Cheetahs, and many others. Animals need the savannah for many different reasons. Termites build mounds for protection, raising their young and for the queen termite. Warthogs, pythons, porcupines, and ducks hide and protect their young in old abandoned Aardvark’s holes. Cheetahs use the tall thick grass to rise, hide, and protect their young, and the lions use the huge cliffs, or flat grounds, for their pride. If humans tried to over hunt or destroy the entire savannah, all of the animals will go extinct.

The plants, in the Savannah, are very important because they keep the dirt in place and prevent it from kicking up and turning into an awful dust storm. They are food for the animals, and they can not grow anywhere else but in the Savannah. Most of the plants, there in the savannah, are the only food some of the herbivores can eat, like the Thompson Gazelles, for example. They only eat the short grass. Others are homes for creatures like the Termites and Ants. Some of the plants are very interesting as well, like the whistling acacia. When the wind blows on the dead leaves, they make a whistle sound. If interesting plants like, those go extinct, herbivores will starve and die, and then the carnivores will die too, from starvation.

The Savannah is not just a dull, grassy and rocky, looking place, it’s an exotic place. Just because the Savannah is another place with lots of room and does not mean that we can destroy the place, just because we think we need more buildings. It’s a home for the many plants and animals that depend on the savannah for food, water, and protection. That’s why we should save the Savannah, by stopping the poaching and illegal trades and over building.
