After enduring some of Sonic's darkest years with titles such as Sonic 06, it seemed like Sega was finally starting to get back to making Sonic great again with successful games such as Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations. Sega was hoping to keep this trend going with Sonic Lost World, which was Sonic's first platforming adventure in the 8th generation. It was released for Wii U and 3DS on October 29, 2013 in the U.S. How does this game compare to Colors and Generations? I'll tell you what I think by making this review.

Graphics: 9/10 Sonic Lost World is one of the better looking Wii U games out there. There is a wide variety of worlds and levels in this game varying from windy grassy areas to a Snowy world, and of course, what game doesn't have at least one lava level right? Anyways, all of these areas look beautiful and they show what the Wii U is capable of graphically. I like going back to The Legend of Zelda DLC level just to see how beautiful a Legend of Zelda themed level can look in a Sonic game. Overall, Sonic Lost World is one of the better looking Wii U titles out there, so I'm giving the graphics a 9.

Sound: 8/10
I know I've said this in just about every Sonic review I've ever done, but Sonic games have some of the best soundtracks in gaming, and Sonic Lost World is no exception. Right away, you're treated to the title screen music which is absolutely wonderful. Eventually, you'll start hearing more amazing tracks such as the addicting Honeycomb Highway and the final boss theme, as well as some of the other boss themes in the game. There's a great variety of music and the sound quality is what you'd expect from a Sonic game. Overall, There are other Wii U titles that have better soundtracks such as Smash Bros. Overall though, the music in Sonic Lost World is great enough for me to give the sound an 8.

Addictiveness: 6/10
Sonic Lost World's gameplay mechanics are different from other games in the series, but not in a good way. This game has what is called parkour, where you can run along walls and climbing up walls. This mechanic gave me a lot of problems, as it's difficult to master, and makes parts of the game where parkour is needed to progress a pain to deal with. The rest of the gameplay is fun, and the return of the wisps from Sonic Colors makes this game fun to play, even with the parkour being a pain. Overall, Sonic Lost World is a fun game to play, except when dealing with annoying parkour sections and certain difficulty spikes, which I'll get into later. Because of these issues, I'm giving the addictiveness a 6.

Story: 4/10 The storyline in Sonic Lost World had potential to be one of the more intriguing storylines in the Sonic series, but poor dialogue ruined what could've been an great plot. So basically the story starts out with Sonic and Tails chasing Dr. Eggman on the Tornado as they're trying to save the animals that Eggman has captured. Eggman shoots Tails' plane, and they crashland on a land that's known as the Lost Hex. There, 6 new enemies called the Deadly Six have been enslaved by Eggman for the purpose of helping him with evil plans. They're being kept under Eggman's control with a shell called the Cacophonic Conch that keeps them from taking over Eggman's robot army. Sonic, not knowing that the Conch's the only thing keeping the Deadly Six from taking control of Eggman's robots, kicks the Conch away and thus, the Deadly Six take over Eggman's robots and his lair with the goal of draining all the life energy from Sonic's World to make themselves stronger. Now Sonic and Tails must team up with Dr. Eggman must team up to bring down the Deadly Six and save the world. The plot seems very interesting, but the games dialogue ruins what was otherwise a good plot for a Sonic game. One of the worst examples of this is when Eggman's talking about conquering the world, Sonic says " The only thing that's going to get conquered is your face Eggman!" This kind of dialogue is what keeps Sonic Lost World from having a really good story for a Sonic game in my eyes. Overall, the game's dialogue knocks the story's score down to a 4 for me.

Depth: 7/10
Sonic Lost World has a decent amount of content for a platformer, but there should've been more levels. There's a total of 7 worlds in the main story to complete, with 4 main levels each, there's a decent amount of levels to play. In addition, there's an additional world unlockable after you beat the main storyline. Also, there's a few free DLC levels to complete as well such as my personal favorite, The Legend Of Zelda Zone. I do wish there would've been some more levels though, mainly because other Wii U platformers such as Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze offer more levels, so this one is kinda short in comparison. Overall though, there are enough levels in this game for me to give the depth a 7.

Difficulty: 4/10 The first few worlds I went through in Sonic Lost World gave me no sort of challenge, so I was thinking the whole game would be like this. Pretty soon, there was a massive difficulty spike that occurred, and I found myself losing plenty of lives. Frozen Factory Zone 2 in particular gave me problems, and I know I wasn't the only one who struggled with that level. Guiding a snowball through small ledges with the gamepad can get very frustrating. One other level drove me insane, and that was Lava Mountain Zone 2, which ironically isn't a lava level. You have to hop from grind rail to grind rail, avoiding exploding mine carts and making sure not to fall of the rail. I lost so many lives on that level... Other than that, most of the levels didn't really give me a lot of trouble, though a few of the later levels weren't very easy. One aspect of the game that was way too easy though was the bosses. None of the boss battles give any sort of a challenge, especially not the final boss. That final battle was one of the biggest jokes I've ever seen in a video game. While there are a few really tough levels, the rest of Sonic Lost World doesn't provide much of a challenge, especially not the boss fights. Overall, I'm giving the difficulty a 4.

Overall Score: 7/10
Sonic Lost World may not be as great as Sonic Colors or Generations, but it's still a good entry to the Sonic series regardless. It has beautiful visuals, a really great soundtrack, and a good variety of levels. Unfortunately, the game suffers from lackluster boss fights, poor dialogue, and an annoying new parkour mechanic that's a pain to learn. This game could've kept the streak of recent great Sonic games going, but instead, Sonic Lost World takes a step back from great titles of the 2010's like Colors and Generations. Overall, I'm giving Sonic Lost World for the Wii U a 7 out of 10.

Such words of in depths...this was pleasurable to read. This is really sad as I won't be able to play the game. Most games like sonic or final fantasy I don't play anymore because of the amount of different consoles they are on...now back to the topic at hand this is a really great review that describes the game very well. Maybe I should go back to doing reviews like I did in the past. ^^

Nice review! It was easy to read, but informative as well. I might consider Lost World now. Your review was one of the more positive ones I've found on it. I sadly agree that this game confirms that Sega can't keep the ball rolling. Generations and Colors were really good. Then this and...That one Sonic game everyone talks about now happened. Anyway, I look forward to reading more reviews from you!

Eniitan : You should totally review some more! ^^

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

Eniitan : Thanks! I think you should do some more reviews. I read your Final Fantasy IX one awhile back and enjoyed it. I would've commented on it, but I don't like posting on threads that haven't been posted on in a long time.

A user of this : Thanks, I'm glad you liked my review. Yeah, I'd say it's worth a buy, but you can find Colors for cheaper, and that one's a much better game, it's actually one of my top 5 favorite Sonic games of all time. I think Sega can get back to making great games if they'd just kill the Boom franchise. They were able to make great games like Colors and Generations after the darkest years in the series, so there's no reason why they can't get out of this hole they're currently in.

gamerforlifeforever2 : You too want me to go back to doing my reviews?.... Well I guess I can try, but as I said to user it won't be daily it will just come in sometimes. If this is what you guys wish and I am sure some others may agree as well. I will go back to doing reviews. I already know what I have in mind to do. And I am getting started on it right away, while still working on my digimon fanfiction. ^^

Also. That review was my biggest screw up, its not the best as it was my second one. I had to learn what leggy had to say the harsh hard way. He wasn't saying things like that to depress me, more like to make me build up my work. '-'
