So I'm curious, has anyone else gone out to see the Martian? I recently saw it a few days ago and - wow - it's only amazing. If you don't know what it's about (and don't want spoilers), it's about an astronaut who gets stuck on Mars after his crew is forced to leave him behind. The movie basically centers around the survival of the astronaut, and how the man is able to come up with solutions for problems that are literally out of this world.

There's a lot of tense moments, which is expected in a survival based movie, but they do a really great job of breaking tension with well placed humor filled scenes. One of the most impressive things that the movie is able to do is show both how his struggle on Mars is going, and how Earth is reacting to see what it can do to help. It's graphics are amazing, as most of these new space themed films seem to be as of late (Thank goodness too, I love looking at space - even if it's digitally rendered). See, without spoiling the movie (mentioning only the first few scenes, and what was shown in the trailor), I really like the way Matt Damon (Oh, he's the astronaut by the way) accurately portrays a man who has pretty much given up on life. Then, he decides "You know what, I'm not going to die here. I'm going full on science on this problem!" It's awesome, and it's motivating.

So the story is good, but how's the acting? It's only perfect. Seriously, all of the actors in the movie really did nail their roles. They were all believable, which is obviously a great thing when you are dealing with story. If I had to compare this movie to interstellar, I don't know which one I'd go with - probably The Martian. I just all around am a huge fan of Sci-Fi.

Oh, and another really neat thing is that they at least attempt to make it close to realistic. I mean, yeah, some stuff is obviously not possible - but for the most part they really do a good job of trying to explain "well, here's the math on this" and "see, but here's the problem." Also, the movie is pretty family friendly, which was a surprising bonus. They hilariously make sure to censor any curse words or anything like that - but I won't ruin exactly how.

Anyways, enough of the endless praise for what is probably my favorite movie this year, please tell me someone else has seen the movie! If you have, without spoiling anything big, please tell me what you thought and what your favorite part(s) was!

Y U Spoil Everything?

I wanted to see it, but thanks to being poor again I haven't been able to see it as well as a few other movies that I wanted to see. I pretty much love them space movies, and Damon was already in one so I'm uses to what he can so in this style.

zanderlex : You have an Android? Download Show Box. Do you have an iPhone or iPad? Download Movie Box (it's a complicated process on iOS). It's a way to get movies for free.
Skilledtree : Awesome! My friend watched it and said he really enjoyed the movie. Hopefully I'll get to watch it soon!

zanderlex : I ainit spoil nothin'! I take the spoil game serious, haha!

When you can watch it though, it'll be pretty good! I know he was in interstellar, and of course did awesome, but he really comes out swinging in this movie. He's really just a great actor all around - which we already knew.

Going off what Mario said,

I use Kodi, it's a free app for android (I believe it's banned from iOS store for whatever reason), and it's legal. There are measures you can take to land some sweet channels and movies - you'll have to make google your friend for that though.  If you do have any subscriptions to any services like say, NFL Gameday or something like that, you can actually enter your credentials on there and use that is like a one-stop streaming app. It's neat, might be something worth looking into so you got some entertainment while on the subway.

Yeah, I saw this movie over the weekend and it was amazing. I can't say enough good things about it. The story made sense, the characters were believable, the shots of Mars looked great. You couldn't tell what was CGI and what was real most of the time. Plus it was a surprisingly uplifting move considering it was a guy stuck on Mars for basically the entire movie.

Another thing I appreciated is that the movie didn't try to be preachy about anything. It stuck to the story about trying to save this guy stuck on Mars and didn't try to make it about anything other than that. The decisions that the people on Earth had to make also made sense. Everyone had their own agendas and did what they could to push them.

yeah, I don't want to say too much more about the movie in case people haven't seen it but I highly recommend it. Worth seeing in theaters for sure.

Exactly!

This movie really surprised me with just how amazing it really was. The story being believe, CGI, tough decisions, and well placed humor were great works of art. Whoever directed this really had a good vision and kept it on track. They could have very easily messed up the entire movie with the way the split it between Earth and Mars like they did - but somehow they pulled it off and it made the movie a no-doubt favorite for me.

Wow, see I don't pay attention to director's in full honesty - but I've seen 4 of those and liked them all (Gladiator is in my top 5 favorites, seen it at least 10 times). I've never seen G.I. Jane, but his other movies are great.

Clearly, Ridley Scott knows what he's doing. I feel like I should pay attention to director's more though, because I'm always the guy who has no idea who a certain director is haha.

Looking at his his past movies, he even did Black Hawk Down which is yet another of my favorites. I love this man.
