When i first got my school laptop the USB drives worked but i never really used them but recently they stopped working. My laptop runs Windows 8.1 and when i looked online this is considered common for 8.1 users. I tried every method to fix it and they all didnt work; I'm trying to avoid having to factory reset my laptop which might be the only thing i can do. Does anyone here have any method to this and or experienced this problem?

TristanTehGamer1 : First of all, don't factory reset your computer because the usb ports aren't working... it's obviously a hardware problem and not a software problem, so completely wiping your hard drive would be inconvenient for you.

[EDIT]: I mean there is always a chance that it is software, but most likely, it is not.

I would say it may have something to do with the connection between the usb port and the motherboard. If it's a school laptop shouldn't you have someone at school to help you with any technical difficulties? I would suggest bringing it up to somebody at your school before you go and do anything that doesn't need to be done.

I agree with Jack, since it is a school laptop, they should correct the issue. That way if it is an issue,it is not your fault.

Are you sure that its the drives that stopped working? What have you been using them for when they stopped working? Have you tried using them for anything else? It's possible that it could be a problem with what you are tying to use it for, instead of the actual drive. That could explain why none of the things you tried ended up working.

How long have you waited to attest that The ports are not working? For my former computer, it nearly took a minute - and I had to take off and on The flashdrive - but it succeeded all The time.
