geeogree : You don't need this to be put in place to end friendships, FB is already good at doing that. You just need someone to post something embarrassing or like a video and that's it,, so if you think about what's been going on, it would just speed up what's already been happening, but might not actually start something new.

zanderlex : yeah, but the dislike would take it from the pace it is at and accelerate it like you said.

However, it wouldn't take anything embarrassing to cause it with the dislike button. Someone posting a simple status update or linking an article and then getting a bunch of dislikes will for sure cause problems for some people.

A lot of people revel in the positive aspect of getting likes and comments. I imagine they will be equally affected by dislikes.

geeogree : Well that's true but.. wouldn't it possibly decrease the amount of dislikes somebody gets? I mean if people know that those people know who disliked their post they probably won't dislike it.. I mean of course there is still those people who don't care but the majority of people would less likely dislike somebody's post for that reason. I mean I may be looking at this the wrong way though.

I can't wait for this button. Apparently I'm the only one. I follow political and news pages (not faux news, so I won't be clicking that link), and lots of comments are extremely awful. I've seen people post things that really aren't appropriate under certain stories, like the latest transgender persons death that there should be more of that happening. Even with Planned Parenthood's page being massively hit by trolls and anti-choice people who would bomb a clinic and wish women dead on the street from unsafe abortions, they should not be there. It's sickening. I'd use it for posts about death to dislike that an actor or loved one had died, but I would also use it for disgusting opinions as well. Facebook was never meant to be accessed by any children, so flame wars, although possible, wouldn't occur nearly as much as you think they would. It would help me weed out some people from my life too. If a dislike or a like on a post dictates your feelings of a friendship, maybe you are not stable enough to be on the internet.

Just another toy in Facebook's toy chest and a way for trolls and a55holes to misuse it. Thank God I do not use or want FB. Just like anything else,it can and will be misused. FB is so huge right now,even if they wanted to,they cannot control the trolls.

So apparently this idea has already been cancelled because FB decided to go along with a variety of emojis to better show emotions such as angry and sad, with 6 in total.

I really don't see the point in the whole dislike thing. I know that people talk about "I don't like the situation but I wanted to acknowledge the post. People need to stop taking the "Like" thing so seriously. It's more like. "I Found this post interesting/intriguing/funny/etc...it doesn't ALWAYS mean "Hey I really like this"

Also, if you don't like something, just don't like it. Comment and say "That's sad" or whatever. End of issue lol

Well I'm glad they canceled it. Seems pretty useless anyways.

I'm not happy they cancelled it. They took an original idea and decided to jack Buzzfeed and pretty much every other sites reaction issues. Poor decision. I was counting down the days until I could dislike things.

Thank goodness,  Smart decisions prevail. If that dislike thing would happen, I'd be pretty upset.

Basically this would happen if they didn't change the idea at the last minute. Too many people would abuse these things.
A emoticon would be much more appropirate and sastifying in my eyes

I saw Mark Zuckerburg post the emoji's today. They kind of represent what you'd expect, and I guess it's less abusable than a straight up dislike button. It's not exactly revolutionary, but I mean I guess any expression is better than no expression.

The main one I think that was needed was the "sad" emoji thing. It will help accurately emulate someones empathy for whatever situation is being showcased.
