I work an early shift at work and the thing is, every day this week, a very bright object(probably Venus) appears just before dawn to the east. Is Venus at perigee right now? Because I've almost never have seen it that close before. But it is a treat to see it like that. Only if I owned some astronomical binoculars *sigh*. Oh, I'll get some one day soon.

This is going to be a dumb question, but aren't astronomical binoculars basically a telescope? (Hide in fear of being wrong)

I was wondering what that bright spot in the sky was in the early morning... It should be Venus (or Mars?) as they are the closest planets.

Skilledtree : No , a telescope is stationary and as far as I know, astronomical binoculars are not, but I think you get a tripod with astronomical binoculars, making it somewhat like a telescope except for having the option of not having the tripod.

LordGaldan :

Oh I see. I ended up googling the astronomical binoculars and you are correct. My apologies for the misunderstanding. I am actually reading about the differences between the two - who knows - I may need to know this random knowledge at some point haha!
