Gaming has gone through many challenges, everyone saw it as a stupid idea back then, but Ralph Bear, the grandfather of video gaming, saw the entertaining side of it, thus bringing the first console into our homes. Notice I didn't say "first videogame" because the first videogame is somewhere in the 40's believe it or not. Since then, it has brought many interesting ideas to the industry. Atari was one prime example of interesting ideas. Even after the crash of '83 Nintendo and Sega brought gaming back from the ashes and for 3 more decades, they have been the ones to create a platform, for us to create video games on, except for Sega, they eventually had enough. Today we have Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, but now gaming is dead to me, and if no one does anything about it, my life of gaming will be gone, forever.

Back then, I loved gaming so much, but I never did quite like it. I remember myself just 4 years old, me playing Aladdin, Super Mario World, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on my SNES. Yes, I played UMK3 as a 4 year old, and I didn't mind, I found nothing on that game, that gave me nightmares. However as time passed I didn't like the new games, until I saw that before my birth, there were more games, and thus I began to find retro games, and played them. I've never felt so happy in my life, me playing Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Donkey Kong 64, Earthbound, Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door, Star-Fox 64, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Mario Party 7, Luigi's Mansion, and many other good games. I wanted more of games like this, good! Until I discovered... I discovered... Discovered... The... Life... Shattering... You see, my favorite games I mentioned are the Banjo-Kazooie series, Earthbound or Mother as called in Japan, and Star-Fox, I wanted more of those games, but I never got them. Why? Well here's what happened to all those series, the Banjo-Kazooie series was never the same after Microsoft bought Rare, they took one of my childhood games and crushed it, Mother was finished and even though Shigesato Itoi didn't continue it, it still doesn't make sense that Nintendo is continuing it theirselves, and finally Star-Fox, Nintendo abandonned it...

Nevertheless, I didn't give it, so I've waited since 2010, for another game of this series, 5 years have passed since then, during the passing of time, my heart of gaming was dying, and now it's safe to say that it will die, eventually. Nothing lasts now does it...

Goodbye, gaming...

The fact that their hasn't been a squeal to Banjo Kazooie, Earthbound are completely irrelevant. Just because something. I honestly think you are overreacting a little bit. Besides, a new Star fox is on the called Star Fox Zero. My favourite store closed down, I go on to the next Store. I know its tough, but you can't sit in a corner saying you will never play any games again because a couple of series don't have more games. Gaming is at an all time high, new great IPs coming out and Indies making more games than ever. Don't overreact over small things, enjoy what you do have, and what is available.

So when you say you don't like new games, I assume that means you have a PS4, PS Vita, Wii U, 3DS, or XBox One? If not then give one of them a try before determining they're bad. I've bought four PS4 games (though one was for my nephew) and of the four I thought three of them looked boring. Turns out I enjoyed all of them immensely and have even played through one of them five times already plus I have two other files going on it now. Looks can be deceiving, man.

And all of the problems you listed were with classic Nintendo systems and their games...just a suggestion but, is it not possible that maybe you've just "outgrown" Nintendo? Not saying they're childish, but we all go through phases. Maybe try a Sony system or something.

Anyway, no, video games are not getting worse, nor are they getting better. It's all just a matter of perception. I personally am enjoying them more and more with each new step they take. To each their own though. But for what it's worth I was feeling about the same until I got my PS4 in June. Now I'm as crazy about gaming as ever.

I know how you feel man...But even if you give up on new games you should be able to enjoy the old ones you liked.
As long as you still appreciate them they'll be alive. =3 There is nothing wrong with being a retro gamer btw...
You can never know too much about old games, and there's a lot you can study. ^^

For example did you know there was a canceled sequel to Star Fox on SNes?
One of the early betas had the 1st 2 player free-range mode battle system...
There is one with a pretty much complete story mode. =D

Although some things regarding Modern gaming annoy me (For example: DLC, Games centered only on Online play with really short campaigns. Games that are released unfinished, etc) I still like modern gaming.

I would suggest checking out more indie type titles on steam and whatnot. There's a lot of great games being made now that would appeal to people that like a more retro feel in their games. These games are often less than 15$ too. I would also like to point out that Nintendo still makes games that you would like on the 3DS and Wii U.

If those options don't appeal to you, there's 30 years of gaming behind us, that you can enjoy right here on Vizzed.com or other emulators. So gaming will never die.

That's it, that's all i can take of this asinine video game generation we are currently in. Gaming is dead! They just keep giving us the same crap over and over again. When someone can think outside the box and create or at least do something more interesting. We have all drowned in mediocrity, I know that there have been many innovations and very great twists in genres. Team Fortress 2 gave a grand and beautiful twist to the FPS genre, but in a scale the mediocrity surpasses and weighs more than the innovators. If you still like gaming as it is, I respect your opinion, but its over for me, goodbye modern gaming, I'll still play, but only up to the 2015, goodbye... Long live retro gaming...

Not to be rude or anything but... your post in response to these people were pretty single minded, and not taking into account what anyone really said. Sure, you may not like most of the modern games nowadays, you may think the mediocre stuff outweighs the good, but the great thing about that is that you can ignore what you don't like. Sure, you may accidentally pick up a game you dislike or is mediocre now and then, but with the Internet that normally has a few different reviews for each game you can normally get a balanced perspective of a game before you pick it up.

And even if you're skeptical about any game nowadays, you can still be pleasantly surprised if you give some games a chance. Just play a demo or randomly watch a YT video of it. I recommend playing some indie games that has positive things being said about it. Most indie developers don't have a popular franchise that they can take advantage of, so they have to make something innovative to become successful.

I think the problem here isn't about gaming in general, but your closed mindset. Pretty much everything has mediocrity in it: TV, Movies, furniture, and pretty much anything else that can be sold. You've probably had a time where you got some bad food or got a poor quality fan/chair/whatever. It's pretty much inevitable, and you'll probably pick a few of them up unintentionally in your life time, but you have the ability to choose what you want to get. It's not like you're FORCED to get the bad stuff. And that makes all the difference. And it's not like gaming has only started to have poor quality material NOW. There's always been bad or meh games & franchises: ET, Superman 64, Bubsy, and the like. There's probably a lot more meh games published on the NES than good and innovative ones (there's like, 800 games on the NES total.) And there always will be, because of inexperienced programmers, people who are doing it just for the money, and various other reasons like deadlines.

Point is, gaming's not dead.

ZeroTails : Good point.

And to answer the thread maker:
Look I know where your coming from ,but here's my perspective.
I 'd rather have a dead franchise, than a good franchise being ruined. Let's use Sonic as an example of this:
Sonic the hedgehog is around yes, he's popular yes, had any good games lately? Big Fat Nope.

Sonic 06, and the Sonic Boom games on 3ds/Wii U  are prime examples.

The Reason Starfox hasn't had any good games, or any of the other franchises you mention: is either one, they aren't making their owners the big bucks, or two: The games get completely messed up, Microsoft totally trashed What Conkers Bad Fur Day could be on the 360.

All because some of your beloved franchises are not getting the recongition deserves doesn't mean you should Hate gaming all around, Try some other franchises or different games, you may like it.

I'm sorry, but this post seems just a tad bit too biased to be a good reason to give up on gaming, but regardless it's your choice.

Gaming's not dead. There are still great games being made. Just look at the 3DS library and you'll see what I mean. Kid Icarus Uprising, a bunch of Mario and Pokemon games, and there's great Wii U titles as well. There's still great modern games out there.

Well then, are you not happy you are on Vizzed! This way you can play the games you used to like and even discover others!

As for gaming "being dead"; I guess you are just not the right target for developpers. After playing 4 or 5 games on the PS 2 I stopped playing because I found other interests in life - plus I was exclusively hooked to turn-based RPGs.
