So, what are your thoughts on smartwatches? Do you have one? Are you interested in getting one?
About four and a half months ago, I got a Moto 360. I love it. It is the missing part of my life. I wear it all the time (except bedtime, I charge it), even in school (a life saver, I must tell you). There are many watches out there that you can get that will please you. What do you think?

I really want to get one to see what it's all about but there's no way I will be able to afford one without having to give up something else. But I do think that having one could end up being really useful.

May I ask what you find it's really useful for?

I've thought about it, and I'm not 100% sure if I would find it that useful, so I'm glad to be able to ask someone who has one.

Light Knight: Well, there are many different smartwatches out there. But I am more than positive that smartwatches will:

  • display phone notifications

  • track fitness statistics (such as steps, heart rate, and other things)
That's among other things. Watches can also play games or run apps. My watch is part of the Android Wear family, which most smartwatches are part of. Pebble watches are okay, and work with Android or iOS. Speaking of which, Android Wear is starting to get compatibility with iOS. Some watches can take calls, and some can text from the watch itself. You can customize your watch with different faces using an app (Android only, I guess). For now, the LG Watch Urbane is the watch for anyone, because it can work on any smartphone (Android/iOS) except for Blackberrys and Fire Phones. But then again, you must be running a recent version of Android or iOS for your watch to work. Always read the system requirements.

And truthfully can't you already do that by looking at the phone? Now if the smart watch works as a stand alone device that is fine. But the watch is just another accessory. Stick with a regular watch instead.

I couldn't help but laugh when I heard these getting announced.

People are so dependent/reliant/obsessed with technology. How does a step counter actually make you healthier?

I dunno, I'm not going to drop hundreds of dollars on something that isn't all the more useful than my phone already is.

I'm sorry but no. This is not useful to me .. what so ever. My phone is really all I need. I don't need an extra ' accessory ' to go along with it. Geeo is right. People are obsessed with technology. I like technology but honestly this watch is no use to me.

Well then. I guess nobody really likes smartwatches.
Oldschool777 : There are some, but very few smartwatches that will act as a stand alone device.

Maybe if the watch was a stand alone device, and acted as we would want them to,we might like them. But the screen would be small and almost useless.

Oldschool777 : Definitely. I forgot to mention that my watch cost $250 at the time of launch. I think they now go for $150 now. However, if you would like to get the second generation Moto 360, it'll be $300.

I will wait until they are actually worth it. Besides, for $250,I can buy a sweet watch that is not going to be obsolete within 2-3 years.

I would like to know what smartwatches have that smartphones don't (or can't be modded to have). Probably nothing.

Even in their role as a watch they're useless. Time telling? Any cheap watch can do that. Perhaps a fashion statement? A tiny phone (which is essentially what these things are) slapped to your wrist isn't going to prove anything except that you're a sucker for any "high-tech" gear that
just hit the market.

I don't know. I don't think they would play as big a role as a smartphone, not big enough to shell out a few hundred bucks for. A normal watch would be good enough for me, but I wouldn't say no to a smartwatch. I'm just not looking forward to schools having as big a problem with these things as they do smartwatches.

I think Smartwatches are the dumbest invention I've ever heard of. I'll never buy something so pointless in my life. If I want something with the word "Smart" in it, it's either going to be a Smart Car or Smartphone. Those are more useful things to own than a Smartwatch, what's wrong with just wearing a plain watch?
