I mean,there are a lot worse punishments than being locked in a darkened room for a few minutes. I mean they could have held a coat hanger in a vice,heat it up and beat the kid with it. They could have just locked him up and left him there. He could have been made to stand on a street corner with a sandwich board saying "I am afraid of the dark."

The last one came from a parent that did that to their kid when he got bad grades on his report card.

Exactly. That is what is wrong with kids today,they are too soft.

That's really, REALLY horrible. It seems that you had a pretty rough time dealing with the dark. I must admit that I used to be afraid of the dark when I was much younger. In fact, that is child abuse.

It's one thing to help guide someone to face their fears on their own time. Forcing one to face them against their will is usually not the proper thing to do. If anything it probably makes them more scare of the situation. It's one thing to guide and help your kid to be strong but it's another entirely to throw them to the wolves so to speak.

That's not right at all. I was scared of the dark as well but my parent's wouldn't punish me by locking me in the room with the light's turned off. That's just cruel and messed up. I would never do this kind of punishment to anyone or my kid's.
It's good to see that you didn't get traumatized by those experiences. You wouldn't want that fear to hinder you in the future.

Eniitan : Very true i am kinda happy my parents kept some of the old punishments. I cant count the number of times i was whopped by a switch of a tree hell had a bag of switches laying somewhere, whooped with a belt hurt too im sure whatever i did wrong i didnt do again

Everywhere you go,you see things just made easier and easier,like kids being able to use smartphones in class. Not everything is going to be on easy mode,people. If everything was easy,we would not want it as much. Now my parents did not believe in beatings,but they believed in groundings and yelling and on a few occasions,my dad decided to show me who was boss. Kids will shake it off,they might still carry a grudge,but it is for their benefit that a correction occurred.

Hell one school fines you; thats ridiculous knowing some schools allow phones

Thank you Eniitan. It is nice to see some people believe in some sort of respect and trying to be a decent person. And parents today complain when their brats talk back,be lazy,or do not help with simple things,like when Mom or Dad come back with groceries and they do not even bother to put them away. I say to them,look how you raised the brat,and then ask yourself,"What did I do wrong and how can I help them?"
