On August 21st at the Pokemon World Championships in Boston, Nintendo announced that Pokken Tournament, which is a fighting game similar to Tekken, but with Pokemon in it is coming to the Wii U. The trailer showed some of the Pokemon that are in the game. These Pokemon are Blaziken, Lucario, Pikachu, Machamp, Gengar, Gardevoir, Suicune, Weavile, and Charizard, as well as a new fighter exclusive to the Wii U version, Pikachu Libre. (Pikachu Libre is one of the cosplay Pikachu's found in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.) The game is going to be released worldwide on the Wii U in Spring 2016. The game has only been available in Japanese arcades, but now the game will be coming to Nintendo's home console. As of now, there's no conformation about whether or not the game will have Amiibo support.

Until this announcement, there hadn't been any Wii U retail Pokemon games to speak of. Now, that changes with Pokken Tournament. I'm surprised it took this long for a Pokemon game to be announced for the Wii U, but now that it's finally happened, I can't wait until it comes out. So, what do you think about this Pokemon fighting game? Do you think it will be a big hit? Are you going to buy it when it comes out?

I nearly did a double take at the words Tekken and Pokémon being used in the same description. lol

Do you have any details about how this will work? Will the Pokémon be fighting in character (using their usual moves etc.) in real time button command fashion like Tekken? Or will they be doing more typical fighter game battling, like Tekken with Pokémon models? Either way this will be...odd.

Eirinn : Here's a video that explains more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69p_yJQyQtc

It looks like you can walk around a bit to aim from different angles, and it also looks like you don't have a lot of moves available to use, but besides that it looks great I think
I can't wait for this game to come out! I don't have a Wii U but a friend of mine does, maybe he'll get it.

I can only imagine how it's going to turn out. It looks amazing, but we'll have to wait until it releases to see exactly how well it plays. Honestly, from the trailer, it looks like Tekken with Pokemon characters. I'm not a big fan of fighting games, but I might take a look at this one.

It's interesting that it was available in Japanese arcades before coming to the Wii U. I think I might've heard of it before, but all I saw was a short video of the arcade version's gameplay.

I think this idea is awesome. How well it will be made is a different story. I can only imagine gamers have wanted a SoulCalibur style Pokémon game for a long time, and it's finally here. I know I've always wanted to use Pokémon in real-time fighting, even if this isn't the exact style I was hoping for. Now that it's finally released (or at least really close), I'm curious to see how well it reviews.
