One of the first pages I migrated to the new design was the Retro Game Room and Video Game Room index page. This page was important to migrate right away since around half of the site's traffic and revenue takes place on these pages.
Any pages that involves searching for games is part of the RGR and VGR index page. The RGR and VGR actually use the same PHP file but just display things differently. For the most part, they function the same.
What's Changed
Here's a few of the things which have changed.
New RGR and VGR Background
I've never liked that the background of the RGR and VGR was the same background as the site's index page so I made sure to give them their own unique background. The RGR and VGR currently have the same background but I'll be changing that in the future. Some game systems still have custom backgrounds which include most of the Nintendo systems and some of the Sega systems but I also plan to give more systems custom backgrounds in the future.
New RGR Banner
It's not necessarily new but it's been modified quite a bit. I figured since the RGR is getting a completely new look, might as well
update the banner as well.
Updated Titles and Descriptions
In order to get the pages ranked higher in search engines like Google, I need to optimize the titles and descr
iptions of the search pages. I've edited the titles so that they make more sense and also so that the better keywords are positioned better. I've also made it so that each page has its own descr
iption which briefly says what's being searched for. You can find examples of this here:

https://www.vizzed.com/playonlinegames/index.php?system=gba&search=pokemon
Content Organized Better
The more important content I've brought closer to the top and less important content I pushed toward the bottom. It's all about first appearance and I want a new guest to the site to see the things that are most important right away without having to scroll. This also resulted into me condensing some pieces of content.
Going from Page to Page is Seamless
The pages not only load very fast but should appear seamless depending on your browser. When you start a search and go from page to page, it should jump you down to the results and appear very seamless. The results now show 12 games instead of 15 and the results are also slightly smaller so that more can fit on the screen at a time. The number of results and the display can be altered (read below for more info).
Faster Lightweight Pages
Just like the other pages of the site that have migrated to the new code, the RGR and VGR are very fast. The RGR and VGR search pages are literally 2-4 faster than they were before and should feel a lot smoother to navigate.
Ad Placement
I'm still playing around with ad placement in order to find out what pays the best but isn't annoying. At the moment there's 3 ads for users (just like before) and 4 ads for guests. The current placement isn't permanent and you may notice the ads being moved around every few days for the next few weeks.
What's New
I still have a few more things to added to the Retro Game Room and Video Game Room but here's a few things which are new.
Results Per Page
You can now change how many results display per a page. You can choose a number between 6 and 48 games. Here's an example of it in action here:
https://www.vizzed.com/playonlinegames/index.php?perPage=48
Results Display View
You can also change how the results are displayed. You can do a 2 column layout, a 3 column layout (default), a 6 column layout and even a list view. Play around with it and find out what you like. I'll eventually make it so that it saves your personal preference. Anyways, here's an example of the new list view:

Boxart Hovering
You can now hover over a boxart graphic for a full size high resolution view of the box art. Previously you could only do this with screenshots but now it applies to boxart as well.
Mobile Friendly
The RGR and VGR pages are now mobile friendly. I've got a little work left to do but you should be able to look for games on a phone or tablet with no issue at all.
Information
The information box now has some of the most useful links I could come up with. I've created a list of what I think the top 10 systems, searches and categories are so that users can get ideas of what to look for.
Renamed URLs
Most of the search URLs have been shortened and optimized to be more SEO friendly. Here are some examples.
The URL of searching for a GBA game use to look like this:
https://www.vizzed.com/playonlinegames/index.php?system=gba
but now looks like this:
https://www.vizzed.com/play-gba
The URL of searching for Pokemon games use to look like this:
https://www.vizzed.com/playonlinegames/index.php?search=pokemon
but now looks like this:
https://www.vizzed.com/play/pokemon
The URL of page 2 of the index use to look like this:
https://www.vizzed.com/playonlinegames/index.php?page=2&sort=best#searchresults
but now looks like this:
https://www.vizzed.com/p/?page=2&sort=best#searchresults
Feedback Time
I didn't mention everything different with the RGR and VGR index pages, there are too many little things to mention that I don't have time for. I'm also not completely finished either so don't be surprised if things continue to be changed. If you have any questions, feedback or suggestions, please let me know.
