How do you feel about those loud cellphone alerts? (For example, an Amber Alert) Why do you feel that way?

I like those alerts, but I want them to be turned off during the night. Last night almost everyone in my house woke up to an Amber Alert going off on their cell phones. It happened at a terrible time too, around 3AM!

I was terrified and I went to my mom's room to see if she had that alert on her phone too. She did, and she recommended that I turn my phone off, like she did for hers, so that it doesn't go off again while I'm trying to sleep. I gladly turned my phone off and I felt a little relieved. However, I was still shaky from waking up to it since it takes me a while to get over things like that.

So thanks to that one alert, I spent an extra hour of my night staying up and reading a comic book to calm me down.

I've never had to worry about turning my cell phone off unless it was overheating, so that alert made me pretty upset. Now I know that I have to turn my cell phone off to make sure I sleep through the night

I was relaxed, and I was certainly not scared just because. But then, I hear this alert that comes through on my phone that scares me so much. It's almost like you leave the TV on all night, and then that Emergency Alert System goes on and scares the daylights out of you. I've also gotten AMBER alerts on my phone. I do not care about them since I do not hear them - I only have a pay phone rather than a plan. But when I do get a "regular" phone I hope there is an option of turning them off.

What is an amber alert? I mean, apart from a yellow warning.
