It's not rare to play sports on the beach. Beach Volleyball is very well known around the globe, so much so that it's even an Olympic discipline.

I've seen various times competitive Beach Soccer. Considering the great change in field dimensions and of course the terrain, it makes a much more spectacular and fun game, both to play and to watch. Countries from all over the world have national teams to compete in events such as World Cups.

But today, I've seen another competitive sport: Beach Handball. Again, terrain and field dimensions call for a change of rules. Now each goal counts 2 points, except penalties which only count 1. The field comprises only three players plus a goalkeeper. So far, it's everything I know, just a few minutes on TV don't make up for much more.

Do you think we will see more sports being ported to the surface of a beach? Beach Basketball, for example?

What handball are you talking about? When you say goal, that makes me think of Olympic Handball, which I love and can very easily be done on the beach and I like Beach football as well but it's not really that popular but could probably grow.

It is like Olympic Handball, but played on the beach, with different rules and a much smaller field. The match I saw was the final of the European Championships, so I'm guessing it has some followers.

That's actually very interesting. I haven't really watched a lot of handball, but I do think this is an interesting. If I'm watch a beach sport though, I'd stick with Beach Volleyball.

I would consider basketball out of the question but beach football (pigskin would make a good Olympic or official sport as the only major injury to worry about is sunburn).

Well, when I golf I spend so much time in the bunker it's like being at the beach... Seriously though, maybe lacrosse? I don't think basketball would really be possible. I mean, if you're not dribbling the ball, it's something else. Except for wheelchair basketball I guess. But I don't think that would work out very well on a beach either...

Basketball wouldn't be possible due to the game being based around bouncing a ball against the ground and so many rules are dictated to this... There are a lot of beach sports, They're pretty much smaller and more end to end than the "field" versions of the sport.. As running in sand is more exhausting than running on ground due to the uneven nature of the sand...

I mean we have the odd beach dodgeball tournament every now and then but it really doesn't affect the sport that much except that you are playing on a different service, which oddly enough does change the game quite a bit.. Like I stated above.. Beach games are smaller and tend to focus less on speed and more on technique than their "field" counterparts...

I'd say the only sport that really isn't that much different would be volleyball... mainly because the concept is still exactly the same... just it has less players...

Beach sports are definitely interesting though I watch them from time to time
