     THE MYSTERIOUS BOX
                                                                   Written and typed by: Sauron422416

READ THE FIRST CHAPTER HERE! I suggest you read it before reading this chapter or else you will get confused!

CHAPTER 2: The Library and Research
Jim Hawkins stood there, dumbfounded; staring in awe! "A dream you say?" Jim asked his best friend Rusty as he slowly put down his video game controller. Something was wrong, something unusual and peculiar that even he nor Rusty could figure out. It was as if something was out of place...
"Look, I am surprised too but I dreamt of getting the latest infamous gaming system: The Playstation 4!", Rusty exclaimed jumping up and down in his seat. As he kept on babbling about it, Jim did not pay any attention to any of that, in fact, he had blocked all sounds and other thoughts except for one: The box in his dream! He had just recalled it after speaking of the topic of dreams.
Jim explained about the dream with the box. After Rusty heard it all, he just said: "What if a banana is in there...not any banana, but a...GAMING BANANA!" (Thank you ZeroTails!)
Jim slapped himself right in the forehead...
"The Playstation 4 has all the unique gameplay features one would want. It even has cool games like-"
"Sorry Rusty, I'll be right back!" Jim told him, and without further notice, he sprang from his chair and bolted towards the front door to visit the library. But...unlucky for him, Mom stopped him. She was now wide awake, but she was unable to hide the sleepiness that was stuck in her like a prisoner in a cage...
As a result, she was sipping her coffee. "Honey, where are you going mister?" she asked as she got a snack from the white fridge. "Uhhh..." Jim stammered, "I am going to the library!" he replied, finally recalling his purpose of leaving the house.
"Sweetie, your father would never want you to go...without eating your breakfast!"
His father? But he was indeed dead. 10 years ago, after his mom came from work, she was crying already. She told the horrible bad news that changed Jim's life forever, he was young that time, but in order to make it not too scary she said: "Look Jim, your dad has...um, passed away. But don't weep my son, he is still in your heart...". Although he was small, he already understood what she said.
That, set a spark in his head...a light bulb was now being lit in his hollow brain...
Originally, he was just going somewhere any where away from Rusty, but he had a different plan in mind now...
Jim had only known his father for 2 years...he did not even remember his name! Also, he still did not know the cause of his death, he did not bother to ask because he was worried that his mom would just cry in sadness again after recalling the event...
Then he was snapped back into life:
I guess one bite wouldn't hurt...
Then he started devouring his breakfast, bite after bite. He was not like most kids in his school, who would just gobble their precious lunch up like a monster. Jim however used table manners but at the same time rushed eating. As he gulped away his egg and crunched his bacon, he then noticed the time located above the kitchen counter. Shocked in disbelief, he raced towards the front door...
But again his repetitive Mom stopped him again and leaned on the door, blocking his passage. "You're not going anywhere Jim Hawkins without brushing your teeth and taking a shower! You just woke up, so I suggest you clean yourself because your hygiene is plummeting down!" she explained covering her nose with her right hand.
Hmm...why is Mom all of the sudden not letting me go to the Library? Usually I am able to go and check out some books in the morning without all of Mom's fussing but...today sure is different...
Mom was a big reader. She loved the subject reading and it was her favourite topic at school! Sometimes, before she fell asleep, she would read her favourite novel: Harry Potter. But those were the good old days, before her husband died. Nowadays she reads sad and depressing books.
After slowly brushing his teeth to get all the germs and cavities out and taking a shower, he was finally ready. He wore an evergreen jacket with an ordinary white shirt. When he approached the front door, he looked out for Mom. Surprisingly, she did not tell him to do anything else...
So, he got on his bike and rode away towards the Library. He went around the corner in Main Street and turned left. The leaves were flying around today and cars passed by; he was also careful and cautious when crossing the street. In no time, he got to "Mrs. Claire's Library". Jim stepped inside onto the quartz tiles decorated with a shade of black squares. On the walls were paintings of famous authors holding their book. For instance, J.K. Rowling was holding Harry Potter and J.R.R. Tolkien was holding the book: The Lord of the Rings! There were 4 arches on each side; some comfortable couches were available for people to relax on; and desktops, laptops, and other types of computers were lined up on perfect rows.
The librarian, Mrs. Claire, stood behind the checkout counter where you would swipe your card to borrow a book.
An innumerable amount of people waited impatiently in lines as they scrambled up towards the front, skipping each other relentlessly.
Jim tread to the computers where he would conduct research. But...what would he research about? He already had an idea: his dad. Jim Hawkins was curious about his long-dead dad. He was dying to know about his name, life and background, and most importantly of all: how he died. He should have looked it up years ago when he was old enough to type and use a laptop but, he was not really curious and did not want to know the truth at the time...until now.
Sitting tightly on the chair, he searched up FamilyTrees.com (not a real website), a website that helped people find valuable, useful information about their relatives, ancestors, and family! Jim typed up his first and last name onto the search engine and clicked "Find them!".
He found a long list of names accompanied by pictures, but when he clicked the first item: Joey Hawkins, a big red box popped up on the screen saying: "Access denied! Please enter the code to continue!". Under it was 5 empty boxes which probably needed to be filled up by letters or numbers...
Exasperated, Jim stood up and angrily skipped everyone in the line towards the checkout counter despite their complaints and cries, and stomped towards Mrs. Claire. "Look...WHY IS THERE AN "ACCESS DENIED" MESSAGE?!?" Jim shrieked as he pushed away a stack of papers and flew on the floor. "I am trying to research about my dead father...and I get...THIS?!" he continued.
"What library would do that!!!" Jim shouted as he raised his fists in anger.
"Young man, I will not tolerate you just shouting at the librarian! This is a library, people are trying to read here, so shush please! Anyway, I have no clue whatsoever about what you're talking about..." Mrs. Claire replied as calmly as she could, obviously it was not working out so well...
     "But...but--but.."
"No buts, you will however clean up the mess you've caused as your punishment for disrupting the peace and quiet here." Mrs. Claire explained as she pointed towards the scattered papers.
Jim groaned but spoke no word even though his face was as hot chilli red as a tomato...
Stacking the papers in a neat pile, he noticed one sheet sticking out to him; one that completely got his attention. In the middle was stamped 3 words in large bloody red letters: "CONFIDENTIAL-TOP SECRET"
Top secret eh? We'll see about that...

Jim secretly took the paper, crushed it up into a tiny ball, and stashed it into his left pocket located in his jacket. Then he slowly tipped away from the librarian when she was not watching and made a run for it. Luckily for him, he didn't get caught. As he rode his bike down home, he was wondering about what was written on that piece of paper.
All of a sudden, when Jim passed by a stinky dumpster, a cold hand covered his eyes, and then his mouth, and took him away into the dark shadows in between two buildings.
      TO BE CONTINUED...
NOTE: Sorry about not posting this chapter last weekend...I had to go to Daytona Beach for vacation with my friends!

I just now read both of the chapters. I really love your approach to story telling --it shows devotion, effort, and a good deal of professionalism for your age (sorry, I know you probably hate hearing "for your age").

This feels like you already have a direction for the story planned along with a few of the key elements. That's a great idea as it keeps the story going in the right direction.

I enjoyed both chapters, but I preferred this one's length over the first one's simply because it gives us more to enjoy and had even more detail. Very nice.

My ideas so far?
The paper...I have no clue about.

The "access denied" is either because his dad was a government official/agent, or it's some sort of mystical force locking away the information because his dad was involved in the world of magic or perhaps even a secret world of video games where games are real. This story seems to be headed in the mystical/magical direction, so I'm betting it's the latter of the two. The game thing is a guess based on the first chapter's focus on gaming. That could easily have been a mere introduction to the characters though.

Jim was taken aside by the man in his dream to explain his destiny to follow in his father's footsteps (see my comments about the access denied issue). Though it could have just as easily been someone taking him aside to steal back the paper. Who knows??

Definitely keep me on the summons list, man. I'm really quite interested in what might happen next.

Eirinn : Thanks for reading both of my chapters! I really appreciate it! And also thanks for your feedback, and it is okay if you say: "for your age". Hey, I got an A on Creative Writing at school!
Your guesses may be right...but I know the truth...
At the end of the story, in the last chapter, I will put a code that readers must crack to find a devastating secret that will shock everyone and will probably make them excited for the next book. (I plan for there to be 20 LONG chapters...I expect the book to be done by the end of summer!).
