Adulthood is simply the period when you got out of school completely and started working/looking for a job. Being a homemaker counts too. If you are too young, well... just grow up already!
Although I've been at school most of my life still, I've finally graduated and started my life!
My adulthood is divided in two main periods. The first one was for my first real job as a journalist in a small weekly in Western Canada. I admit not listening to much radio - I was often away from home and mostly brought CDs/IPod when I was driving around - but there are a few songs that remind me of that time.
It was the era during which Lady Gaga started her rise to fame. I'm not a fan, but small doses of Poker Face, Paparazzi and Bad Romance can be tolerable.
Fortunately there was also rock music to please my ears. AC/DC had just released Rock and Roll Train when I started my job so this was good to listen to. I also enjoyed Nickelback - there's SO MUCH worse than them - for songs like Never Gonna Be Alone, Rock Star and Too Late. Alice in Chains (Your Decision), Disturbed (Indestructible) and Billy Talent (St. Veronica) were a few of the other songs I remember.
The largest playlist I have is from when I move to the U.S. after losing my job in Canada. This is probably the largest playlist of my life, mostly because I wasn't working - I couldn't for a while anyway - and was listening to a lot of radio at home and at the gym.
Anyway on the rock side there are many great artists. Avenged Sevenfold is probably my favorite. Their guitar is just awesome and it's heavy enough without being "screaming music". I can't get enough of songs like Nightmare, Shepherd of Fire and Hail to the King. Five Finger Deathpunch, although it's rather heavy for my taste, still made good songs like Under and Over, Battle Born, Remember Everything and Coming Down. Device (Vilified) is a very addictive song while Volbeat (especially Warrior's Call, but also Lola Montez) just get stuck in your head.
For "softer" rock (but not lite rock!) Shinedown is one of my favorite. I identify to Bully so much, and Adrenaline is a song that just makes your heart beat faster! Pop Evil too had excellent songs like Trenches (that gets even more interesting with the music video where we see a fighter going over obstacles), Deal with the Devil (and its scary drug-filled video) and Torn to Pieces. Three Days Grace is also a classic from which ever era you listen it from. Good Life, Pain and Never too Late (just to name a few) will forever be associated to that time of my life.
Females rock my ears too. Halestorm has awesome songs like Love Bits and I Miss the Misery (which music was used for a Budweiser ad), In This Moment was heavier but still enjoyable with songs like Blood, Sick like Me and Adrenalize (I thought it was from Linkin Park with a female collaboration!) and Deadsara (Weatherman) show that girls have nothing on boys!
Finally, the local rock station played a lot of classic rock that didn't age at all. Dio (especially lost in Line, which was filmed in *1984*), Judas Priest (Breaking the Law, Living after Midnight), Nine Inch Nail (Head like a Hole) and Sound Garden are now hits of the early 2010s.
There was also an unusual amount of pop/dance music during that time. It mostly comes from the first gym I went to, but also from relatives who listen to that kind of music. It includes LMFAO (Party "Rock" Anthem and I'm Sexy and I Know it), Kate Perry (California Girls, Firework, Part of me...), Rihanna (Only Girl in the World, S&M) Britney Spears (Piece of Me has a good dose of humor while I Wanna Go sounds different than what she did 10 years earlier in a good manner) an Bruno Mars were the main artists I heard.
There was also Pitbull and the various artists that sang with him - or was it the opposite? Anyway while Over Me sounded good I still can't get over the La Lambada's massacre by J. Lo.
