This is going to be in two pieces, because I could use some feedback on what to get my as a gift.

Last Sunday, one of my best friends messaged our group on Facebook to say that his cat had dies the night before and he was pretty broken. He had the cat for like 8 years so I went with him and a few others to spend the night making him feel better.

I want to get him a graduation gift that would be for the cat, he had her for about 8 years so I think a gift like this would really mean a lot to him and his graduation is in just over 2 months.

I was thinking about getting one of those personalized dog tags like the one I have for Advances Warfare on it but it would have the name of his cat on it. I didn't do any research on how much it would cost, but that's one of my ideas that I would like to see through I I can, but I'm looking for either feedback on this idea or other ideas for what I could get him as a gift.

I really want to get him something that would mean a lot to him so id like any feedback.

The dog tags seem like a pretty good idea. I just looked it up and it costs about 2-40 dollars. It all depends on where you go and what website you go on.

2 to 40 dollars is a huge gap to deal with, and then I would have to tack on shipping, though those prices do sound reasonable, even $40 for a special dog tag that somebody might actually wear sounds to be pretty good, but I still want to look at other options.

Yeah I don't blame you. I was looking at the prices and the gap is huge in between items.

How about a positive movie about a cat? That might help to cheer him up.

supernerd117 : A movie about a cat? I think that would only work for a day or so, and I don't think anybody gets a movie as a graduation gift, regardless of what happens to them.

zanderlex : I dunno, maybe that and something else? I've never had a group of friends that did a graduation gift thing. At the very least, I feel the small action might help pick your friend's spirits up a bit, even if others may consider it inappropriate. But again, I really don't know your friend and how he is.

I think you should do the dog tag kind of thing. But I know a way you could do it, and save a bunch of money. Just go to like a Wal-Mart that has the animal tags things. They have different designs, and you can put practically anything you want on those things for like a maximum of seven or eight dollars I think. All you would have to do is go and buy a chain to put the tag on if that is what you are looking at doing. 

thing1 : I would so do that, but then comes the point about how I live in a city where Walmarts are banned.

Wal-Marts are banned? that is messed up. Well, other places have them too. You could always go to a pet store like pet Co or Pets Smart. 

zanderlex : You absolutely may. I didn't get any fancy grad gifts. By the time I graduated, I no longer had birthday parties. I never really wanted any, although I did enjoy hanging out with friends. Ever since 15+ or so, birthday parties or gifts haven't really been a big thing to me. But when I do get gifts, I highly prefer small, thoughtful ones to large, lame ones. It could just be a movie rental of a movie I had wanted to see for a long time. Or even a simple talk. But really, these days I prefer to get all the stuff I want/need on my own, if possible. I rarely ask for anything.

I don't mean to come off as rude or mean of " I don't care about this " or anything, but why is this such a big deal?

EDIT: False alarm, I can't seem to buy the tag, I tried to buy it with paypal but none of the cards I have money on want to go through with Paypal on this site so I need to find another site to buy them from.

zanderlex : I think you might want to consider thing's suggestion.
Local pet stores might have a machine that allows you to make custom pet tags.
I know that every Petsmart and Pet Co I've been to has this machine.

They are fairly inexpensive (I think they are approximately $5 last time I saw them), and you can chose from a variety of styles of tags.

So unless you are set on getting a military type tag, that might be your best option.

Vanelan : I ended up buying a military one a few days after the debit card problem and I actually just gave it to him on Monday and he liked it, he said he already wore it once or twice since then.

That's great. Its sad to hear about the cat, but glad you were able to make him a bit happy.
