Hello. As you see by the title, I am curious as to why there is no emulator for the original xbox. I do not refer to the fact that there is none available in a browser, but rather that the fact there is no Xbox emulator in existence at all. We have PCSX2 for PS2 and Dolphin for Gamecube. Xbox is from the same generation, and the only "emulator" is Xeon, and it can only play Halo, A GAME THAT WAS OFFICIALLY PORTED BY MICROSOFT TO PC ANYWAYS! Do people just think the original xbox sucked so much that they feel it doesn't deserve an emulators? Please developers, make an Xbox emulator.

Yes there are many emulators that Vizzed can use, but the internet and bandwidth  is the main issue with new emulators. The xbox emulator is extremely big, we don't even have ps2.

There aren't supposed to be any at all in existence, the XBox is still too new to make emulators off of so there would be all sorts of legal troubles for anybody who tried to make one, like what had happened with DS games now that have to be taken down from most sites. It probably won't be another 5 to 10 years before those can be available.

zanderlex : That's definitely not why. Gamecube and Playstation 2 came out at the same time. And we have PS3 emulators (very low quality, but they're out there). But still no emulator for the original xbox. I know the xbox is a piece of s*** compared to the Playstation 2 and Gamecube, but it still deserves an emulator.

Look, you can't just emulate anything in existence. With emulation, you need to convert the coding of the software. That takes a lot of work and horsepower. That's also why emulators take a lot of horsepower to run. It's not just running the game, it's also converting the coding. So, my guess is that the Xboxes coding is very different than most OPs that computers run, so emulating it would be a chore.



Then you come to the problem of legal rights. Look, some companies take legal rights more seriously than others. Just because Nintendo is cool with an emulator on a site, doesn't mean that Sony or Microsoft is. Why? Well, they are different companies. They have different thoughts on what is abandonware and what isn't.

Seriously though, I've heard that the Xbox runs on an X86 CPU and was poorly documented, so creating a working emulator is difficult, if not impossible. I'd imagine that programmers either couldn't figure it out or didn't think it was worth the effort.

For what it's worth, softmodding an original Xbox is a pretty easy thing to do provided you own the appropriate game to unlock the exploit.

Xeon, CxBx and DXBX - None of these work really great though. Similar with other emulators from that generation, none of them work that great. Kinda like how long it took someone to make a decent N64 or Ps1 emulator. Just give it some time. A few listed above have been in development for years, and still are in development.
