Eirinn :

Thanks Eirinn.

zanderlex :

I won't answer that.

------ a return to victors lane

Facing some players in one on ones for practice has helped greatly. My problem is I'm to aggressive, and I don't sqeeze it enough. I need to play with my opponents mind more, and stop coming to them, but make them come to me

Last practice round I won against Ness. . . As Mario!

It was tough, but I was able to keep the lead throughout most of the thing.

I know my strategy, and now it's time to execute it.

Play it at a distance, but not too much. Adapt, adapt, adapt.

Watch your opponent, and don't be afraid to run if you have to.

But keep up the fight, in the words of Peppey Hare.

----- Breaking.

In the loser bracket, I would face Lucina, after waiting what seemed like forever for a call. Out. This time it would be cut close, who would win? I can only tell. . .

- Match 1.

Dr. Mario is my choice. It worked out well too. The piles bounced higher and cause quite a bit of damage as time when on. I was able to my opponent much higher than I with those wonderful thing. I Ko'd Lucina while I was at a mere 40%. It took a while before I died.

Great things were bestowed upon me, as Lucina began to fail.

Dr. Tornado made a great punishment for her when she moved in to close, I could tell my opponent was messing up. Perhaps being frustrated with the fact that I had managed to get him so much higher on damage than me. On his second stock, things started to look down. He got some good hits on me, and things began to even up. I started to get the upperhand, again. Lower in percentage than her.

But the lack of a good Recovery, and just barely missing the stage would cause my final fall.

Match one failed.

- Match 2.

I choose Falco, not exactly a counter pick on purpose, but more of I wanted to play as him.

Falco, proved a valuable choice. His more diagnol far reaching neutrals, plus blaster made a smashing defense. I was continually putting distance between me an my opponent. Throwing in a few Arials to mix it up, never wanting my opponent to grow accustom to my strategy.

Though a bit close at the end. I was able to defeat Lucina.

Taping her shield with neutrals, and then surprising her with smashes broke her within her bounds.

The second stock was destroyed by three smashes, the first launching, the second impacting on her shield, then I gave two nuetrals, stopped, and briefly charged a smash finishing her off and sending her into the beyond.

- Match 3.

To break the tie.

My next character would be Link.

But Lucina has been traded in for Sonic.

Eh, not the greatest in my opinion to counter Link, but his choice, Don't assume.

Expect potential strength in your enemy.

The fight developed well with my strategy of backing off and using projectiles. Bombs serving me well, as well as a few quick shots by my bow. The boomerang I used sparingly. The nice thing about the boomerang, is it spawns a few frames after Link moves.

This offsets your opponent and makes them shield too early, and let go of it too soon, usually, since most people are used to shielding a few miliseconds right after Link flinches.

Sonic, however was too good and it, and knew when I was using it. Even so, I managed to keep a good lead all the way through, only coming behind at the very end, before one of use would blow up in firey glare of the Player's color.

Sonic began to get used to my tricks. Either that or it was his speed. I began to search for better hit ratios, and I knew I had to finish him sometime. Up in the air, and coming down was a useful opportunity.

Sonic was at some 100% percent. I used my Dair, and bounced right off his shield, But Sonic dodged toward the edge, and I realized I had another chance hit him, and I took it. However, it missed, and I fell. I wasn't able to put my sword away in time, and couldn't save myself with my UpB.

I lost the match, and was eliminated form the Tournament.

----- But my sneaky brother.

Managed to win his fight, he's still here waiting for his next match. Oh well. At least I had fun, and there are still lots of players waiting for their turns.

Fighting better opponents is a victory in itself. even Though I haven't won a single official match here, I've learned some, and I had fun. Bomb seems pretty happy. I'll be here for a while yet.

zanderlex : Looks like Sword Legion is out of both tourneys. Bombchu Link is still in in singles, but has at least 1 and up to 3 matches to play, it looks like.

GO Blink GO! I didn't realize how powerful a nickname "Blink" was until now (well...I just plain didn't get the pun). I like it.

Sword legion :
bombchu link :

You guys are awesome. Keep up the good work! And though you're eliminated, SL, BL is still in. I hope he'll do his best and really enjoy whatever comes up!

Also, I main Link. I might change it after I get the full game, but Link has clicked with me the most so far. I'd love to take you guys on some time!

Sorry to hear you lost both of your matches.
However, the chance to even play at a tournament like that is amazing, and you have my envy!
I'm glad you had a good time and...

Well..

I lost in the quarter finals today in the "for glory" pacific west smash tournament.

I would have done better had I not tried Jigglypuff before dropping into the losers bracket... I played my second round (after beating a little mac n00b in the first) against pink (bubble gum) pit and lost as jigs and was two stocked. After that I tried Toon link and /barely/ lost to the other player.

After that I made it all the way to quarter finals in the losers bracket murdering the competition with two stocks, and owning them the entire way... just to loose to a guy training to play in EVO. I lost badly in the first round, but was only 60% behind at the end of the second round. I was really impressed by how good he was.

There were about 50 players total, so being in the top 8 (prolly top 4 had I not lost early on) is a good thing I guess.

BTW this was Wii U singles.

The tournament is over.

But in our hearts it ever lives on.

I've learned quite a few things from this, and I'm glad I got an opportunity to experience it. There were at least 5 or 6 guys there who were great to talk to and friendly opponents. It's great that these people were welcoming to newcomers like Me and Bomb. It's puts a good face forward for the Smash community, and made it easier to ease in. Especially having never done something like this before.

In hindsight, I see what the problem was, I was too offensive.

Playing bombchu, and my younger siblings all the time, I tried to use mostly offensive strategies where I would control the game. And Mario, my main, isn't built that way. Or at least you shouldn't use him that way heavily.

Mario is a medium fighter. He can attack from medium range, but his short punches and other moves make it more desirable to get the opponent to come to you. His super cape is great at marking projectiles, "return to sender" and forcing them to make the approach. Just don't sit on one side of the stage and hammer fireballs, as the won't travel far enough, and it makes you too vulnerable standing on the ground.

Play it sub, tight, by jumping and launching fireballs, from a close enough range so you can punish shielding with grabs. Also remember to us neutral aerials and Dairs. Never Fair, as it is slow and has low range. They'll see it coming, and you will likely end up punished over it.

Stick to the basics, and make them impatient. Plus don't take it to hardcore. Be a little loose and malleable. Step back and think about what you've observed. Adapt, and don't be afraid to use more characters. If you having trouble, swap. Some characters are better for different strategies. Look at how much Falco helped me out when I choose him. Link also almost did his due, but then the bounce down stab. . .

. . . .

Rather than think about how it could have been if I hadn't messed up over the edge, I'd like to move on. In the words of the Tournament Masters from Mount and Blade, "Even the best get pummeled every once in a while. They just get back up and dust themselves off, that's what the champions do."

The most important thing is that I learned. No one does spectacular on their first try. (usually) and then there's my brother, who I'm pretty proud of, but ah well. I'm not angry about it, nor will I hold it against me, I'm moving on with the wind throughout the Sky, Thanks to everyone who supported us today, In particular, I'd like to thank:

- Everyone on Vizzed:

For supporting me. I spoke about my blog here, and told the website name about twice, though I didn't think I was big enough there to really deserve talking about it. I did take some names at practice first off though.

- Davidio7:

For making this great place that connected me to an awesome community!

- My brother, BLink:

For playing well and analytically. Watching you helped me and I believe we've come to some of the same conclusions on what needs to be done to win- you executed them better and sooner though. XD

- Pixel Battle

The arcade place which hosted this, and who's store clerk I got to talk to about video game endlessly, and endlessly and endlessly for my own benefit in PC game making. XD It's great, and I really enjoy my time there.

Well done guys! Sounds like you had the time of your life I wish I could enter such a tournament once but I'm not even close to your level I guess, plus I only played the demo of Smash 4 (Mario is my main as well, I love his Super Jump and down aerial). Anyways, good to hear that you had some supportive opponents and that you learned a lot of it, otherwise you would have left with a rotten feeling.

juuldude :

It's a very fun game, and it's not that slow either. They've come back since Brawl and made the game more hardcore. I really enjoy it, and definitely recommend any Nintendo fan play it. It is fun, especially if you play competitively.

And yeah, the people there were cool. (cooler than the jerk disliking my OP, hooray for da wonderful broken system) They actually taught me a thing or too. And Bombchu did pretty well.

It's all in stepping back and thinking about what you need to do. Only the last 10% is execution.

Gamin'Gal :

Thank you, it is much appreciated. Bombchu did well, he made it to the quarter finals.

I hope another on comes up soon. In fact, there may be a good chance since over thirty people showed up this time.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

Coming in the top 9 of about 50 entrants is really good for my first tourney, thanks all for the blessings, comments and praises. It's nice to know their are others rooting for me.

Thank you all and see you next time.

Not bad, that's the top 20%, that's a pretty good ranking. Are you guys going to be entering any other tournaments like these in the future? With a bit more practice in sure that you guys could pull off some amazing matches and finish off even higher up in the rankings, and I would definetly support you guys.

Hmm, well that happened. And I dunno how I could assist one in a smash tourney, seeing as everytime I go to for glory I nearly snap my 3ds and go crying in a corner for 3 hours. :l

Sword legion : As always, thanks for summoning me to things even though I've been pretty aloof lately. Sounds like you guys had a blast and are learning strategy for next time. I know you and your brother will do well next tourney. I just know it...

bombchu link : Congrats on placing so well!
