I have played a couple of the games, but I keep seeming to lose interest in playing them. However, I still want to learn about these lovable (mostly) creatures. So my first question is...How many types of pokemon are there now? As of this minute. What are they?

Right now, there are 718 Pokemon, I believe, unless you include mega evolution, which I did not.

As for the Type of Pokemon, there are 18 types.
Normal, Fire, Fighting, Water, Flying, Grass, Poison, Electric, Ground, Psychic, Rock, Ice, Bug, Dragon, Ghost, Dark, Steel and Fairy.

Grass beats water
Fire beats grass.
Anything is better than normal (right?)
Water beats rock. 
Flying beats bug.
Dragon's nearly invincible
Fairy beats dragon.

Electric beats water.
I have no idea what beats what when it comes to the dark, poison, ghost and psychic types.
