Ok, Here's what I would like to try to do. I would post here what I ate for the day, and what I honestly weighed in at in the morning.

Today, I have eaten A cheese sandwhich with mayo and white tortilla chips. Two different cereal bars.
Later, I had two scoops of my mom's taco rice with some spicy salsa chips.
Had a piece of chocolate cake with white icing and sprinkles
Had a bag of kettle popcorn
Weighed in at 208 this morning.

I don't know if anyone else would want to go through this embarrasment; but you are welcome to join me. I'm not going to chicken out of this one, I'm not going to be cheating, and I will diet!

According to this meal plan, it seems that your diet consists of lots of carbs and sweets. Try starting a meal plan consisting of getting all of your nutrients in a good amount that your body needs: carbs, proteins, vitamins, and etc. If you can't seem to stop eating stuff like what you just listed, you might need some people to help guide you along the way.

FaithFighter :  Yeah.  Start losing the carbs.  Chips in any form or shape is a no go if you're serious about losing weight.  Here's a rough meal plan for you for free  You need to "compliment" the meals with exercise.  Once you begin to exercise your metabolism will increase = body needs more regular food intake.  The goal is not to eat less, but to eat smaller meals more regularly.  5 - 6 meals a day is ideal as this would also help with increasing your metabolism.  If you are only starting out, start with only 4 meals a day.  The most important thing is to listen to your body.

Breakfast:  1 x Fruit;  Oats with water or skimmed milk (low fat milk);  Glass of water;  1 x cup of coffee (herbal tea preferably)

Mid-morning (around 10 am):  1 x Fruit;  2 x Wholegrain slices of bread x with shredded tuna mixed with low fat mayo (no butter or margarine);  Glass of water

Lunch:  Chicken breast;  Green beans;  Sweet potato / Potato or wholegrain rice (brown rice);  Glass of water

Dinner:  (Lean) Red meat or pork (loin chops is ideal);  Salad or veggies; Brown rice / potatoes.

This is really a rough and very basic meal plan.  Just try and limit / eliminate any sugar / simple carbs (coke; sweets; cake etc.) from your diet.  Low fat stuff does not have to be tasteless.  These days nutrition has come a long way.  If you love gravy like me, you can add it to your meals but try and get the instant gravy (powder) that you mix with water.  Avoid snacks (chips, chips and chips) at all cost.  Rather replace it with nuts (try to stick with unsalted) and popcorn (don't cheat and use the flavoured / sugary type).  You can mix and match the above and of course replace the meats with alternatives such as fish, turkey or whatever.  Just try and limit the fat intake (do not avoid fat completely as this is also necessary believe it or not).  There's no limit on fruit or water of course  O yeah, the portion size of the meats, veg and carbs respectively for each meal should be roughly the size of your fist.  Good luck!

So then, are you starting a sort of accountability thread like we used to have? One where people come to share and encourage one another to keep going on with their diet changes?

And I'll spare giving any advice personally, but this one thing I will say: remember to prepare to alter your diet for good. Otherwise you gain it back after you stop.

I'm no personal trainer, but why not count daily calorie intake? Shoot for at least 2,000 calories per day for one week (not saying that you are or aren't already doing that), but also commit cardio exercises to burn those calories.

Then week 2, continue with the same amount of calories, but continue with the cardio workouts.

Then week 3, continue with the same amount of calories, but increase your cardio to ab exercises.

Week 4, change it up to your own preference.

FaithFighter : Hey there. I've been trying to lose weight and I thought if you didn't mind, I'd tell you what I've been eating recently which are really helping.
Breakfast: Oats
Lunch: Rice or quinoa with a 3:1 ratio of vegetables and meat
Dinner: A sandwich or a vegetable wrap with soup.

I also do exercise four times a week and so far, I'm at 52kgs from my previous weight at 58kgs. Counting calories helps, but I find knowing your basics is easier and simpler eg. Sweets, sugars, white breads and pastas and you keep check of what you eat so you know how much of which food group you are eating too much of or not enough of. Hope this helps . If you'd like to know what kind of exercise etc. PM me.

I am a personal trainer and the food element is about 65% of weight loss.  Don't think of it as a diet, think of it as a lifestyle change.  You'll want to really examine what you're eating and find better alternatives.

I suggest going to the library and getting books on how food works in the body.  Education is a powerful tool and you'll understand how and why all this works.  The internet is not a strong resource because you have unlimited opinions without citation and any clown online can post what they think is a good idea and it's a terrible idea.

Don't rely on us.  Do educate yourself.

Also, it's good to avoid sugar as much as you can.  Do that and you'll see results no matter what else you do.

Eirinn : Yes, this is basically what it is. It's not that I need advice on how to diet or what I should drop, but I just need something that will push me to stay on course. I have had this struggle--much like my father did and still does. So I really just wanted to try something else. I guess I feel a little odd about letting everyone else know about my weight problems, but I really think it'll help if I know that everyone will see what a pig I am, if I'm overeating all the time!

warmaker : Thanks, but education on it isn't really what i need...just the guts to stick it through.
Alicia182u : Hi Ali! We meet again. Sounds like the perfect fiber diet. And yes counting calories is a big help. I just need to keep doing it right.
tRIUNE : Yeah, already tried the counting calories, thing is I am too weak to stay on it. Yes, excersise is something I also need to make myself do. It's just easier for me to do that than to diet
SoL@R : NOoooo! Sugar! Chips! (cries) Well, tell me something I don't know already...Though I figured the kind of chips that I liked might not be so bad. Tortilla style chips and mutigrain and not potato
ghostfishy : Really, that was not a meal plan, but me trying to be honest with myself and everyone else about what I ate today.

Thank you all for the replies and the offer of asstistance. I weighed in this morning and saw 202.8 it's still a long weigh from my goal (get it?)  but it's better than yesterday.

FaithFighterFailSummon: Okay, I'll join you then. Can't hurt.

I had finally gotten in shape a while back, but as I began programming and making games, I inevitably began excercising less (used to walk in all of my free time while browsing Vizzed from mobile. Fun and good for you! lol) and started sitting at a computer all the time, so I put twenty pounds back on. I still don't look out of shape really, but I can feel the difference in my body, and the scale doesn't lie unfortunately. xD

That said, I'll jump in tomorrow since I have no idea what I had today honestly. :3

Eirinn : Eirinn : Wow cool! As you probably already know. I weighed in at 202.8 this morning.

Here's what I ate:
1 tortilla thinly spread with sour cream. filled with taco rice and topped with a bit of cheese and salsa
2 toquitos (no sour cream) with an italian rice called rostio or something like that, and a piece of chocolate cake
Also had 6 cups of coffee this morning with fat free milk. Zero cal sugar.

warmaker : That is a common misconception. You can still have your favorite things. You just have to do the math. Plus my biggest problems were because I was eating 3 rather large meals a day, and then some!

FaithFighter : Actually...He's right. Doing many changes, but still doing stuff like eating a piece of cake daily or every other day isn't going to help. It's really bad for you. Imagine trying to build a brick wall, but knocking down a few each day.

That doesn't mean prohibit them completely, that's also bad (Makes you crave them more) but leave them for special occasions. Maybe once a week starting out, then after a while once every two weeks, etc...

Sure, you might get less than 2,000 Calories while eating cake, but it's pretty bad calorie type, if that makes sense. Better to eat 2,000 healthy calories, than 1,000 unhealthy ones. You'll intake less calories with the latter, and thereby lose weight faster? Wrong. You're better off with the healthy calories.

Tl: Dr Version
Cut down on the cake, and other unhealthy foods.

maguc : Very true, but sometimes I just feel like I need that extra boost. And its not like I eat it every day. But i do appreciate the advice. Rice is a very good diet i think. Just because it's so satisfying. That and if you mix it in with meat, well there you go. Fruits and veggies? Add salsa! Wham! perfect combo!

FaithFighter : You're the one who's eating chocolate cake semi regularly and you're talking about being overweight.  It may have something to do with it..  I'll play the game.  I'll post what I ate and my weight.

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled + bowl of shredded wheat and skim milk.

Lunch: 1 orange, 1 banana, 1 cup of Greek yogurt with strawberries, one sandwich on whole wheat bread, turkey meat, lettuce, yellow mustard, one slice of munster cheese.

Dinner: Sage and garlic roasted salmon, parmesan couscous, skim milk, caesar salad.

I also threw in a four mile run, some push ups and pull ups.

I weight 160 lbs of rough and tumble, hard charging, physically fit, high performance body.

No cake last night.  Or the night before.

So, I'll bail out of the conversation.  I don't know what you're objective is on here.  Just post food and weight?

I also threw in a four mile run, some push ups and pull ups.

warmaker : Basically, my trouble is that I tend to eat way too much. It's not that I do not know how to lose weight, I just need something that will remind me all the time and keep me accountable. It's seeming to work so far. I weighed in at 201

All right here's the line up for today.

6 cups of coffee with 2 cups skim milk
Banana
1 piece of cheese pizza with small bag of ruffles chips (I know)
Bacon, egg and cheese grilled sandwhich with curly fries.
2 diet cokes today

We were skiing at Boston mills and Brandywine most of the day. I'll probably tell you more about that tomorrow in my other thread. "So what do you all like to do?"

Total: 1,027 Calories (a little low), 139 Carbs (little low), 24 Sugars, 33 Protein (low), 25 Fiber (low)

End result: -344 Calories (burned 344 more than I took in. Yay!)

EDIT: Note that I have a hurt knee so excercise isn't easy right now. Also I eat on a low budget so I won't have a good diet to post up, and I'll be posting one day behind all the time in order to calculate how many calories I burned.
Finally I only weigh once a week (Wednesday).
