If you are an avid watcher of seasonal anime, chances are that you have most likely heard about a certain show, that has fan girls and boys alike screaming there heads off,and telling you its the best thing they have seen all season.A.K.A Attack On Titan 2.0.

I am of course talking about Tokyo Ghoul.

The anime adaptation of Sui Ishida's most popular work is getting alot of hype.Being acclaimed for its dark themes, interesting main character, and awesome fight scenes filled with very good animation.(Lets just forget about episode 4 of the 2nd season, and be reminded of the 12th episode of season 1..Ah,much better. )

Whether you're a fan of it or not, there is no doubt that its becoming a bit of a juggernaut.Considering that it was the 2nd most watch anime in the season it premiered in,and that its manga has already beat Naruto in terms of most popular anime of 2014.

Ahem
http://orzzzz.com/tokyo-ghoul-beats-naruto-for-complete-manga-prize.html

With its alarming popularity, some anime fans (Such as myself) have already predicted that it would begin airing on Toonami after it gets an English dub. So,i would like to go over 3 most the most commonly used reasons.Starting with-

Number 1: It's Dark: There comes a point in your youth when you start craving something more..Dark,sinister.You begin to grow bored of the Powerpuff girls, and Spongebob, and you start to want something more. And this is only natural, you're becoming more aware of the world around you.And lets be honest,Earth is very, very violent.

And its not going to be to long until you start to crave something a bit violent, because we live in a violent world.Whether its through shooting pixels in a first person shooter,or by watching a kid get a centipede shoved in his ear as a method of torture.

Tokyo Ghoul is not just some run of the mill Shonen, were every body comes out of a situation okay.People die.People get hurt, and somethings wont go the way they are planned. The reason people like Tokyo Ghoul so much is obviously because of the main characters struggle through the world. He's a tearjerker for the female audience, and an awesome fighter for the male audience.(In season 2 that is.)

Toonami is aimed at teenagers.Teenagers will eventually want to explore the darker sides of life. And while Tokyo ghoul is not the most depressing thing out there,it certainly gets the job done.

(You want to see something dark? Look up something called  mnemosyne. You won't be able to sleep well...)

Number 2:Its good, but not great: Make no mistake,Toonami is not a channel for hardcore anime fans. Not at all.Its goal is to get other people into anime. And as much as i hate to contradict myself a bit here-

(Read a bit of this to get what i'm talking about.)

There are statistically anime out there, that are more likely to get other people into anime.Sure, some people out there say that things like Madoka Magica got them into anime. But on the other hand, shows like Fairy Tail are much more likely to get people into anime, rather than a show like Madoka Magica.Let me try to give you an example

Here we have Death Note.

And here we have Monster.

Both have very similar themes, and characters. But ultimately, the more popular one is given the most praise. While Monster just sits in the back, when it deserves as much praise as Death Note gets. And while it could be argued to death about which one is better,it will not change the fact that the answer will be the same in the end.Which is: "It's just an opinion."

Even if Tokyo Ghoul does not deserve the acclaim it gets,it does not change the fact that its popular. And if its popular enough,Toonami will pick it up.Especially if it has elements out there, that are aimed at Teenagers. It does not require as much thought as something like Kara No Kyoukai, and does not take forever to get good, like Monster does. Its simple, and sweet.

Number 3: It is a very good anime, for getting other people into anime: Tokyo Ghoul has something for everybody (Besides mechs)

It has a very good protagonist.

The perfect introduction to what a Tsundere is.

The bad guy that contradicts himself.

And any other trope out there. And its a perfect addition to the lineup. Its not as gory as Hellsing Ultimate,or Attack On Titan. And its perfect for getting other people into anime. And i expect to see it air after Kill La Kill has finished its run.

Anyhow, that's it for me.Why don't you guys tell me your thoughts on the subject? See yah later *Waves*

I agree with your reasons this series is probably one of the best ones out there, I am excited to re-live the story once again with the anime that they are still making (at least the second season) I am a fan of the manga and I can honestly say that the show is a very good adaptation of the manga itself, it doesn't miss too many details. Like you said it is a very dark anime, unlike many others it has a dark theme to it and I feel that it brings a very different vibe to the anime world. With this anime Toonami could make their genres vary a lot more and they could get a different type of shonen than the ones they already have.
